What Actually Happened?

(Lexi's POV)

I'm awake but don't want to get up. This is so comfy for what? I pull the blankets over Cooper and I a bit better.

A sudden knock is heard at the door. "Lexi! I'm here to check up on you!" My mother. If she saw Cooper and I laying together she would have nothing but bad thoughts. I'll just get up carefully so I don't wake him up.

Before I do so, a creak is heard near the boys' hexagon. Noah sat up in his bed and stretched, soon after hopping out of bed. "Hang on Mom." He mumbled.

"Wait Noah-"

The door is opened and my mother rushes in. "Morning Noah, sweetie. Alexis I want to check your med chart. You have been taking your pills haven't-"

My mother and I lock eyes and any embarrassment I wasn't already feeling was definitely happening now. "Hey mom." I mumble, getting off of my bed slowly in order to not wake Cooper.

My mother has never been good at faking facial expressions. The widest grin spread across her wrinkled face. I could've sworn her eye was switching. "Good morning Alexis." She says through gritted teeth.

I rock on my heels a bit to avoid the awkwardness. "We'll talk about.. whatever that was.. later." I nod, not making any eye contact. She throws her hand on her head. "What was I asking about.. oh right! Your medications! Have you-"

"I take my daily dose every single day. I set up a chart and Cooper has been helping me with it." I walk over to my bedside table and grab the chart, then handing it to my mother.

She scans it and nods approvingly. "What about symptoms? Surely they aren't showing yet.."

My face drops a little and I let out a nervous giggle. "We'll actually.."

"ALEXIS! YOU SERIOUSLY STARTED YOUR SYMPTOMS AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME?! WE NEED TO GO SEE THE NURSE NOW-"

"MOM!" I interrupt. I hear my bed creak. I look over to see Cooper rubbing the sleep off his face. Soon after, reading the room and deciding to let us have our argument. I also look over to see Noah and Jasper watching our argument play out like a new movie. On the edge of their seats and all.

"Cooper had already planned to take me to the nurse this morning, we had it all planned out last night. The only things that have happened to me was a nosebleed and I started to feel a little dizzy. That's it!"

"Dizzy? When did this happen?"

"Just last night. We went to clean up my nosebleed and I felt a little woozy. Cooper helped me back here."

"What did you do before you went to bed? You didn't wear yourself out did you?"

"No mom, I swear! Cooper helped me back here, we read a note Jasper and Noah left us, we changed into our pajamas, we-"

"Note? Why would they leave a note?"

I hesitate a bit. I probably shouldn't have mentioned that. I glance over at Noah and notice how terrified he looks. The amount of trouble he would be in if she found out they weren't in bed at sleeping time...

"Ha.. well.." If I tell her I don't know where they were, then she'll assume they were breaking rules.

"I uh... I just took Noah to the library.. to get his mind off of a few things.. that's it ma'am." Jasper suddenly announces. He's a pretty good liar. If  Noah had said that-

She scans Jasper and Noah for a good five seconds. "Well that's.. very considerate. You were back before late then?"

"Yeah of course. We were actually back earlier than I thought because Noah didn't really find any books he liked." Damn this kid is good.

My mom nods and smiles at the boys a bit. "Well at least I know one of my kids are behaving." I roll my eyes at her sarcasm. "Well um... I have some work to do. Go see the nurse as soon as possible, Lexi." She walks over to me and pulls me into a motherly hug. Soon after, she walks over to Noah and does the same. He gets pretty embarrassed about it though which makes me giggle.

"Bye Mom!" Noah and I say in sync as she waves a goodbye while shutting the door. I hear Cooper's iconic laugh from behind me. "Damn... I thought she was gonna murder me." He grumbles.

"Yeah I can relate to that.. what the hell Lexi?!" Noah shouts. I could tell he was more annoyed than mad, which made me feel better. "Noah I'm sorry it slipped. It's not like I even know where you guys actually went last night. Besides she bought it, didn't she?"

He nods and crosses his freckled arms. "Yeah.. I guess you're right." He walks over to his dresser to grab his change of clothes for the day, avoiding me I presume.

"So... where did you guys go last night?" I inquire. Noah seems to go stiff but relaxes instantly after that. "The library... like Jasper said."

I roll my eyes. "Oh c'mon Noah. Obviously you were worried about her finding out something.. the library is the best place you could've been last night. Where'd you actually go?"

He looked to Jasper for help. Oh no what did they do... "Okay well... don't freak out or anything... but here's what happened." Jasper speaks hesitantly.

5 minute time skip~

"And then we came back here..." He mumbles. I look over to Cooper to see his eyes burning with fury. Soon after, his eyes soften in a more worried way. "Jasper.. why the hell would you think that that's a good idea? What if those people had found the hatch? What if you or Noah were hurt... or worse?"

Jasper nods. "Yeah I know.. the other times I went up there, nothing bad has ever happened. There's never even any biters around."

Cooper stands up and crosses his arms firmly in front of the two boys. "Listen. You guys can run around and have as much fun as you want. But not when it risks our future here in this bunker. This is probably the safest place in the world right now, so if we get kicked out, we would basically be killing ourselves. Understand?" He says through gritted teeth.

Both boys stand straight up in fear and nod continuously. "Good."

I giggle a bit at Cooper's authority over them. I was almost waiting for him to say 'at ease soldiers'.

I stand up behind Cooper and put a hand on his shoulder. "Go wash up you guys, it's almost breakfast time."

They both nod and walk out with their changes of clothes. I smile at the fact that Jasper had brought Noah all the way out of the bunker just to make him feel better. Aw.

"You aren't seriously happy they did that, are you?" Cooper interrupts my thoughts. I shake my head. "No... but the sentiment was pretty sweet."

He nods, as if agreeing. "Let's go get washed up for breakfast." We grab our changes of clothes and walk out of the pod hand in hand.
