It was an odd sight to see, a Hufflepuff, forcing a woolly hat over a Slytherins head, while a Gryffindor made a catapult out of cutlery, all sitting together at the Gryffindor table.
"Wait! I think I got it!" Cassandra exclaimed. When Chance lifted the yellow hat from his eyes and turned to see what she had done, a small rolled up, piece of bread, hit him straight in the nose.
Cassie grinned at the boy and let out a sound of approval, and Caterina giggled. Chance huffed and grabbed the catapult, pulling it back towards him so she couldn't reach it.
"Chance. That's the only thing keeping me distracted right now, do you realise how distressed I am?"
Chance rolled his eyes at the girl, "well you wouldn't be so distressed if you decided to hang out with Cat and I, instead of pranking Snape, with the twins. Would you?"
Cassie scoffed and whispered to him, so Cat couldn't hear. "Oh please, you'd take any opportunity to be alone with your 'sunshine', as you called her." Chances eyes widened. "Yeah, don't think I forgot about that."
The boy opened his mouth to retort, when Cat spoke up. "Hey Chance, could you wear that hat for a while, you know, see if it gets itchy?"
"Anything!"
Cassie snorted at him, he cleared his throat and put on a deep voice, "I mean yeah sure, cool, nice, will do-,"
"Shut up." Cass interrupted. Chance mouthed a thanks in her direction, for putting a stop to his rambling. Cat turned to her, with raised eyebrows.
"Cass." She breathed out, sounding disappointed, Cassandra put her hands in the air.
"Sorry."
Cat nodded, satisfied and smiled softly at Chance. "Thank you Chance." Chance grinned sheepishly at her, in a daze, until he noticed something out of the corner of his eye.
Cassandra was not only gazing at the doors, nervously, anticipating a certain potions professor, but she was also fidgeting with the red ring Chance had got her for Christmas.
"Ah, so it hasn't come off then no? I thought even with the charms, you would have lost it by now, but I guess I underestimated my skills in spells." He took her hand in his own, admiring the ring.
Then he spotted something running across her hand and his whole face dropped, not that Cass noticed, she was still glancing around, not paying attention to the boy.
Only when Chance, traced her scar with his finger, did she turn to face him. Her hand flinched back and he looked at her with concern.
"What's that from, it seems pretty deep."
Caterina examined the hand Cassie was now gazing down at, she hadn't noticed it before, but she knew that it definitely wasn't there at the start of the year.
Cassandra thought back to Christmas, when she had dropped and smashed the mug, in front of Mrs Weasley, she remembered feeling as though she couldn't breath, thinking she was about to be punished. Not thinking straight she grabbed the sharp shards of the destroyed mug and cut her hands. Most of the cuts healed, but one in particular ran deeper than the rest and scarred.
Chance and Caterina waited patiently, for her answer, growing more worried by the second. as the girl had never mentioned it before.
Cassie took a shaky breath, trying to think of a way to explain what had happened, but also trying to leave out most of the details.
"I-,"
The doors to the Great Hall burst open and in Snape strode, with his new and improved, hot pink robes. The laughter started of small, but gradually got louder, at the sight of his confused expression.
The night before, Fred, George and Cass, used the Marauders Map, to sneak into Snapes living space and change all of his robes a hot pink. But realising that once Snape would see the colour, he would simply just change it back, with a flick of his wand, Cassie charmed it. So to him, it was completely black, but everyone else could see it's true colours.
Cassie searched for her partners in crime and when she caught their attention, she gave them a big thumbs up and they returned the gesture. She smiled when Fred gave her a wink and turned back to Snape, who now looked like a dog, trying to catch his tail, trying to figure out what was so funny.
Finally Dumbledore waved his wand, and the robes were back to their normal black shade. Snape squinted his eyes, examining the hall for the culprit, even though he still had no idea what had happened.
When the laughter started dying down and people were finishing up their meals, the trio started walking out to the courtyard, when Fred, George, Lee and Cassies three dorm mates caught up with them.
Once Fred and Cassie made eye contact, they both burst into yet another, fit of laughter. By the end of it Cass was leaning on Fred to stay steady and both their sides hurt.
George caught sight of Dumbledore walking in their direction and held his breath, thinking they had been caught. But the headmaster, simply winked at the boy, with a glint in his eye, and kept strolling forwards.
Fred gazed down at the girl beside him, he had his arm wrapped around her shoulder and her head was back against his chest. Suddenly he tensed up, seeing a certain someone, jogging up to the group, headed straight for Cass.
Cass noticed Fred tense and turned to look up at him, wanting to ask him what was wrong, when a voice stopped her. A voice that made her weak at the knees.
"I'm guessing by your reactions to Snapes, colourful choice in clothing today, you had something to do with it?"
Oliver Wood stood before them, with a large grin on his face, looking directly into Cassies bright blue eyes.
Her thoughts spiralled, 'he was watching me? Did he look for me?..........Did I look good? Did he want to see my reaction? Did he really jog here to talk to me?'
While Cassie and Oliver were in some kind of daze, gazing into each others eyes, the girl didn't notice the warmth slipping from her shoulders and the sympathetic looks, a certain Weasley got.
"Well maybe," she finally spluttered out, realising she hadn't said anything in reply. "but of course, I didn't do it alone, I-I had Fred and George."
The older boy nodded in understanding, stepping closer to her, but not before glancing at the twins. One of them had an awkward kind of smile, planted on his face, while the other just stared at him blankly.
"Right, well, eh I just wanted to say it- it was great, hilarious even." He kicked a stone on the ground and smiled down at Cassie. She let out a breath, she didn't know she was holding in.
"Well thank you, for....that. I- appreciate.. it." Cassie said stiffly, she could hear Chance snigger at her, but paid no mind to him, and instead focused on Oliver.
The Scottish boy grinned, "well, I, eh hope to see you around, maybe we could, I don't know, chat about quidditch some day?"
Blood rushed into Cassies cheeks, "I would love that, sounds great, fantastic." She sent him a dodgy thumbs up, and he chuckled walking away.
Chance put his hands up to his mouth and shouted after him.
"See ya Olive Woodland!"
