Fred strolled down the hallways, in search for Cassandra, he and George received a letter back from Molly, saying she'd be welcome to the Burrow with open arms. Suddenly, he heard a loud familiar voice, from a classroom he thought was empty.
"What?! I do not have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit."
"All I said, was that you looked a little tried and you told me, that I looked like a little bitch. I'd say, you have a short temper."
"I'd say-" Cassie stopped when she heard a knock at the door. "Aw, hey Freddie, come to save me from losing anymore brain cells?" Her tone changed from irritated, to cheerful in half a second.
Fred slowly entered the room, Caterina was sitting down at one of the desks, peacefully knitting away at a yellow scarf, Cassandra was standing tall, with her arms crossed and Chance was sitting on the large window sill, with an amused smirk.
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything. But I've come to steal Cassie away. I have something she might want to hear." Fred smiled at the girl he'd call one of his best friends.
"Take her away." Chance replied casually.
"I didn't need your permission," Cass grumbled to the boy, "I'd love to chat Fred, I feel like I haven't seen you in ages." Fred's heart fluttered at her words, while he reached down and slung her bag over his shoulder.
As the two walked alongside each other, Cass blabbered away, about how when Christmas break ends, the Quidditch season will begin, and she'll get to sit in on practices. Fred couldn't help but to stare at her and each time she'd look up at him, he'd quickly glance away with a blush across his cheeks. She didn't seem to notice though, or if she had, she hadn't teased him about it, or said anything.
"I actually wanted to talk to you about Christmas break," he started.
"Well what about it? You already know what I'm doing, is it about your mum's Christmas present? You didn't lose it did you?"
A few days ago, Fred, George and Cassie spent the whole weekend putting together a scrapbook, full of pictures and memories, as a present for Mrs Weasley, from the twins. It was messy in some areas but that made it even more special.
"No, no, Merlin, George would have a heart attack if I did." He got sweaty palms even thinking about losing all that hard work. "No, this is about you."
Cassie sucked in a breath. "Fred, you know what I'm doing for Christmas, I'm staying-."
"At the Burrow, with me, George, Charlie, mum, the whole Weasley clan. You don't have to worry about presents either. We did sign your name on the scrapbook though." Cass gaped at the sudden, well not really request, more like statement. She stopped walking and turned to the boy.
"Fred, I couldn't-,"
"Yeah you can and you will. Honestly you don't really have a choice in the matter actually," Fred shrugged, stopping as well, lightly laughing at the stunned expression on her face." George already sent the letter asking, and mums all excited now, she can't wait to meet you. Can't let her down can we?" He reached out and lifted her chin up, so her mouth wasn't hanging open.
It was silent for a bit, Cassie seemed as though she was studying the wall behind Fred, he waited patiently for her reaction. Then she let out a small, shy, smile.
"Me?" Her blue eyes meet his brown ones. "She's excited to meet me?"
Fred saw a lot of sides to Cassandra, but he had never seen this side of the girl. Her light blue eyes were filled with a soft hopefulness, mixed with a bit of confusion, her rosy lips were slightly parted, her eyebrows raised gently. She seemed to be holding her breath in anticipation for his answer.
The redhead paused for a moment, he didn't realize that with just a few words she could change her from a bubbly, loud personality, to an almost shy and dreamy one.
"Of course Love." Fred said so quietly it was almost whispered. Cass looked down at her shoes.
"Well then I'd love to go." She whispered. Fred stared at her in awe, fused with shock, before he took the girls hand and dragged her along gracefully.
"Class is starting soon and you know how the serpent is if we're late." He joked in a delicate tone, referring to their potions professor Snape.
Cassandra seemed to glide along beside him, neither of them spoke, but they didn't need to. Fred was still in wonder at Cassies swift change in personality, and Cassie was still in a trance from hearing that Mrs Weasley actually wants to meet her, it may have seemed small, but to her, that meant the world.
Whenever Cassandras mother had to go anywhere with the girl, Akilah would roll her eyes and sigh, as if she'd just been told she had to take the dog for a walk, on a bitterly cold day. That kind of thing, slowly chips away at a child, believe it or not.
When the two swept through the door and took their seats, George and Lee were already sat down chatting away. Chance then strolled in, he took his usual place, in front of the table of four and turned around.
He went to ask Cass if she wanted to study in the library next class, while Caterina was in herbology, but stopped as soon as he took one glance at her face.
He studied her dazed state for bit, then turned to Fred with an angry look.
"I swear to Salazar, if you fed her some weird potion, or some shit like that, I'm gonna fucking kill you." He hissed.
"I wouldn't-, no, I'll explain after class, but for now don't snap her out of it, it's fucking adorable." Fred hissed back aggressively, but just as quiet, because he didn't want Cassandra to hear them.
"What's adorable?" George practically shouted turning around to face them, Lee doing the same.
"Shhh!!" His twin hushed.
"Fred thinks Cassie is adorable." Chance answered.
"Oh shut up, your still not on my good side." Fred fired back.
"Oh that's old news," Lee sniggered, "what's weird is that, Cass hasn't spoken since-, Cass?"
George looked over Fred's shoulder at the girl, to see what was wrong. "Fred," he paused, "are you sure that's not like, her Hufflepuff friend, using pooly-juice potion?"
"It's pronounced poly-juice potion, dumbass." Chance smirked. "And no, I was with Cat before I came to class, so that can't be it."
"I'll tell you what happened after class, just not right now, got it?" Fred whispered, trying to put a stop to their hushed conversation. It was silent for a moment.
"I think he drugged her."
"Maybe she's sleeping with her eyes open."
"I still think, they used pooly-juice potion."They all spoke out at once.
"Boys!" The booming voice put a stop to their theories, and startled Cassandra, but she didn't seem to care.
The boys then proceeded to notice the whole class looking at them like they were mental.
"Ten points from Gryffindor," Snape droned on. Half the class groaned. Chance gave a small smirk, Fred made a noice of protest, waving his hands in Chances direction.
"Don't make me take more, Mr Weasley."
Fred slumped in his seat and glanced towards Cassie, who was still somehow smiling softly. Subconsciously, Fred relaxed, seeing her in a dreamy, calm state. After that, the class went by smoothly, that is ignoring the dirty looks he got from Chance, who still thinks he poisoned Cassie.
