As the bloodcurdling screams continued, the temperature rose. Cassandra felt as if she was being burned, and stabbed from the inside out, however, Akilah began to get uncomfortably hot. As the warmth intensified, Cassies mother began sweating, she examined the area around them nervously, trying to find the source that was emitting such powerful heat.

She became edgy and uneasy, her breathing picked up, she was no longer laughing at the pain she was inflicting on the young girl. But what really made her freeze up, was when she turned back to Cass.

Cassandra was still withering in pain, clawing at her chest, as if she was trying to physically pull the pain, out of her body, her legs kicking out. This isn't what shook Akilah to the core though, Cassies eyes were wide, her normally sky blue orbs, were filled with red and orange roaring flames.

Akilah dropped her wand in terror, and the curse was finally lifted.

Cassie slumped, an ache in her bones, muscles stiff, her eyes drooped closed. She took small, ragged breaths, chest falling up and down, in an uneven pattern. Her mother timidly stepped back, fear evident in her eyes, her knees weakened, the powerful posture she once held, was now gone, replaced by a rigid and horrified stance.

When Cassandra shut her eyes, Akilah snapped out of her trance and ran to grab her wand. When the wood was in her grasp, she darted out of the room.

Cassie lay there, not even bothering to try get up, she was to exhausted. She couldn't think, she couldn't hear anything over the ringing in her ears, she couldn't speak. Her throat burned, her whole body burned. Tears were silently rolling down her cheeks.

She didn't know how long she was left there, minutes, maybe hours. But after some time, the door burst open, with a loud bang. Cassie didn't bother open her eyes, to check who had entered, there was no energy left in her fragile self.

Oswald rushed into the room, when he spotted his daughter, laying on the ground, hardly moving, blood pouring from her head, his heart shattered. He raced over to Cassie and knelt down beside her.

Her father cradled Cassie, weeping over her. Cassie remained motionless, her limbs were slouched. His calloused hands brushed her light brown hair, repeatedly, rocking back and forth, weeping into her shoulder.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice breaking, "I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry."

This went on for a while until Cassie drifted into unconscious, listening to her father whimper apologies into her ear.

Cassandra peeled her eyes open slowly and painfully, the sunlight shined though her thin curtains and burned her eyes, she shut them harshly. When the girl went to move, her limbs seemed heavy and stiff, Cassie furrowed her eyebrows, before everything came rushing back.
