I stared at the phone for a second, feeling my heart race. I felt like I was going to throw up as the shock flooded through me.
I knew I was about to freak out so I went down to the kitchen and just started baking. I didn't know what I was making but I had to keep my hands busy.
I could feel my happiness crumbling around my feet.
Part of me wanted to be mad and scream at Colby but the other part of me knew that I didn't remember that night either.
I knew whoever took that picture was trying to get under my skin.
I worked in a haze, adding ingredients and creating things with my hands as my mind raced. I was on auto pilot until Colby came into the room.
"Hey, babe. What are you doing?" He asked as I looked up at him slowly. "Hey....what's wrong?" He asked as I let out a shaky breath. I wanted to answer him but instead I heaved out a sob, not able to contain it anymore.
"Violet, baby, what's going on?" Colby asked as he took my face in his hands. I shook my head and took a step back. I knew in my heart that he would never do this to me on purpose, but that picture was etched into my brain.
It was torturing me.
"V...you're scaring me, what's going on?" He asked as I turned and grabbed my phone. I shakily pulled up the picture then held it up to him, wiping my face with my other hand.
"What is that?" He asked then took my phone. "Someone sent it to me." I whispered then sniffled. I watched as his jaw clenched while his eyes darted along the screen.
"V...I would never do that you." He said then grabbed my phone and set it on the counter. "I know...but the picture." I whispered as he put his hands on my upper arms.
"Whoever took that picture is jealous of what we have so they are trying to break us apart." He explained as I looked into his eyes. "I would never cheat on you. I love you more than anything in the world." He said quietly as I shook my head.
"I can't do this right now." I mumbled as he scrunched his brow. "Do what?" He asked as I took a step away from him so I could continue to bake.
"I can't spend the first day of marriage with a broken heart." I said and focused on the cookies I was making. "Baby, please look at me." Colby said and took my hands, stopping me from working.
"Why can't people just leave us alone?" I asked and looked up at him. "Why do they have to take advantage of you while you're drunk to get under my skin?" I asked and rubbed my chest, trying to relieve the pain that was sitting there.
"I dont know, V. We can't let them bother us though...you know how much I love you and how much you love me. Nobody is going to change that." He said quietly as I shook my head.
"I just don't understand." I said then wrapped my arms around him, resting my head on his chest. "I don't either, V." He said then kissed my head.
"Do you remember doing it?" I asked and looked up at him. "No. I swear on my life that I would never do anything like that to you. I honestly was probably asleep when this was taken." He said and scratched my back gently.
"Promise?" I asked as he chuckled and pushed me away slightly so he could look into my eyes. " I promise." He said I as I nodded and pulled away.
It made me sad that people were constantly trying to rip Colby and I apart as if we haven't tried to rip our own relationship apart multiple times.
It just wasn't fair.
I turned and started to work on the cookies again. "Did you want some help?" Colby asked as I hummed. "If you want to." I said quietly as I kept my eyes down.
