I stared at the phone for a second, feeling my heart stop. I thought he was going to prison for what he did, why would he have his phone?
Part of me wanted to text him back just so I could ask him what the hell was going on in his head.
I wanted to know what made him snap.
The other part of me was terrified that he was even allowed to talk to me right now.
"You okay?" Colby asked as he walked into the room. I looked up at him for a second, contemplating telling him.
I sighed then looked down at my phone. "V?" He asked as I lifted my phone up so I could show him the message.
His eyes squinted as he looked at the screen. I watched as he clenched his jaw. "I'm going to fucking kill him." He said then grabbed the phone out of my hand.
"No! Colby stop!" I yelled and stood up, gasping at the pain it caused me. "What? You're seriously going to talk to him?!" He asked angrily as I sighed.
"That's not what I'm saying. You just can't go around threatening people. It makes you just as bad as him. Plus don't you want to know why he did what he did?" I asked as he huffed out a breath.
"I don't give a fuck about that Violet because he did it. That's all I need to know. He's obsessed with you and he needs to know that it's not okay to reach out to you." He said as I sighed.
"Fine. Do what you want." I said as he sighed. "Are you mad?" He asked as I shook my head.
"I'm not mad." I said then carefully sat on the floor again so I could watch the girls more carefully.
"You seem mad." Colby said as I shook my head. "You're clearly more upset about this than I am. I'm curious to know why he did what he did but if you don't care then that's fine. Tell him what you want to tell him and I'll respect that." I explained and took both of the girls' hands.
"Don't do that." Colby said as I sighed and looked up at him. "I'm not doing anything, do your thing." I said as he sighed then brought my phone to his ear. I wiggled the girls' hands causing them both to coo at me as Colby walked around.
"No, Jarrod. It's Colby. I don't know what the hell your problem is but you need to stay the fuck away from Violet. I don't want you to see her, talk to her, or even think about her. You've hurt her in more ways than one. If you really cared about her like you claim you do then you would leave her alone." He said and paced the room.
I looked down at the girls as they looked at Colby, following his movements. "No. You missed that opportunity when you put your hands on her." Colby said with a hint of anger in his voice.
I was actually impressed with how calm he was being but I think it was because the girls were here. "She didn't kiss you, you fucking psychopath!" Colby screamed as my eyes widened.
"Let's go to the nursery, yeah? I can read you girls a book." I said then scooped the girls up as they frowned and looked towards Colby.
Colby looked at me sympathetically as I carefully made my way out of the room.
I could tell he was raging with anger inside but was keeping it together in front of the girls and I. I could also see a little bit of remorse behind his eyes, as if he felt like I would be upset with him for going off on Jarrod.
I wasn't angry or upset though.
I was a little curious to know what happened to me but I wasn't willing to cause a fight over it. Colby needed to do this and I wasn't going to stop him.
I smiled a reassuring smile then walked towards the stairs so I could bring the girls away from the drama.
When I got up to the nursery I sat down in the rocking chair and held both girls on my chest, rubbing their backs gently.
"Okay, so I can't really get a book because you guys are taking up all my arm space so I guess I'll just have to tell you the story about how daddy and I met." I said with a small smile.
"Mommy won a trip to go ghost hunting with daddy and uncle Sammy." I said as they looked up at me. "Yeah, ghosting hunting. Scary huh?" I asked as they both smiled up at me.
"Anyways daddy and I talked a little bit but mommy's friend had a crush on daddy so she tried to be respectful to honor the girl code." I said with a laugh.
"The pull we had towards eachother was too strong though. We were just meant to be I think." I said as Colby walked into the room, stopping at the doorway.
"Daddy and I got to talking and we realized that we were actually in love." I said and smiled at him.
"Mommy had to go back home though and so did daddy so we had to be away from eachother for a while." I said as both of the girls rested their heads on my chest.
"We went through some tough times, but we prevailed and ended up together again. Now we live happily ever after with you two." I said with a grin.
"Moral of the story is that the girl code is stupid." I said as Colby chuckled, leaning against the doorframe.
"That's correct." He said as the girls looked up at him sleepily. "I think it's time for bed huh?" I asked as Colby pulled Luna off of my chest so he could cradle her.
"Yeah, let's go to sleep." I said and rocked Nova, pulling her closer.
We ended up rocking them for just a little while longer before they were both fast asleep. Colby and I then carefully laid them in their cribs, making sure they were comfortable before leaving the room.
"I like that story." Colby said as I breathed a laugh. "The story about how we met?" I asked as he nodded.
"Yeah, it has a happy ending." He said as I chuckled. "Heh, hopefully." I said then winked at him as we walked to the bedroom.
"Did you get things sorted out with Jarrod?" I asked as he sighed. "Yeah, I think. I'm sorry for upsetting you." He said as I shook my head.
"You didn't upset me, Colby. I understand that this effected you as much as it effected me." I said as he frowned.
"You're the one that went through it though. I shouldn't be so controlling. If you want to talk to him to get some answers you should be allowed to." He said as we sat on the bed.
"I know I'm allowed to, you're not my keeper." I said with a laugh as he grinned. "You know what I mean, V." He said as I nodded.
"Yeah, I know. I think I'm just gonna talk to Chad. There's no reason for me to talk to Jarrod." I said and looked down at my hands.
"I feel like you're holding something back." Colby said as I sighed. "He told you I kissed him. What if I did? I would feel so bad, Colby. I'm just scared because there was a part of my memory that's just gone." I said and huffed out a breath.
"I don't think you would do that, V. Do you?" Colby asked as I shook my head. "I don't think so. I mean I feel sick to my stomach at the idea of it." I said as he took my hand.
"Try not to worry about it, love. Just try to talk to Chad and see if he knows anything. Jarrod was probably just saying that because he's a prick that's trying to get under my skin." He said with a hint of anger in his voice.
"You really hate him." I said with a laugh as he nodded. "I hated him before this but the second he put a hand on you was the second I started despising him." He said as I grinned.
"Okay, Casanova." I said then stood up. "Where are you going?" He asked as I grinned. "To go get a cookie." I said then held my hand out to him. "Wanna come?" I asked as he nodded and took my hand, pulling himself off of the bed.
I was glad that Colby was so understanding of all of the emotions that were swirling inside of me right now.
He knew that we needed to work together to get through this and that controlling me wasn't going to be helpful.
I was also grateful that he was willing to stand up for me even when I didn't know if I wanted it. I wanted to go off on Jarrod myself, but it wouldn't matter.
It would be giving attention to someone that didn't deserve it.
