A couple weeks have passed since Ki woke up from her coma. I went with her to her physical therapy appointments which were always entertaining.
I hated seeing her in pain but she was such a good sport about it. She went home a couple days ago and was spending time with her family while she recovered.
I was now 17 weeks pregnant which meant we were going to find out the gender at our appointment, which was in a couple days.
Tonight we were announcing our pregnancy to the rest of our friends since Kat wanted to throw us a gender reveal party so they needed to all know before then.
I had really started popping out too, which was insane. It was still crazy that there was a literal human growing in my stomach. I would never be able process that.
I have been spending the whole morning getting things ready for the dinner we were having tonight. I had a lot of time on my hands which was both amazing and horrible.
I wanted to get started on the nursery but Colby hasn't moved the desks out of the office yet and he wasn't going to let me do it by myself.
I told him I could do it but he told me I was absolutely ridiculous for even suggesting it. I knew he was going to say something like that but I thought it would be worth a shot.
He and Sam were working really hard with a new series for the past week or so. I was so proud of him for working so hard, but I had to admit that I really missed him. I missed feeling like I had a purpose.
I really missed working.
I shook my head at the thought then looked down at my bump, smiling down at it. My new purpose in life was to be a mom and I really just needed to embrace that.
I thought about how great of a mom my mom was. I wanted to be just like her to the baby that was growing in my belly. It hurt a little bit knowing my kid would never get to meet them but I had so many stories I could tell them.
I wanted my kids to know them in any way that they could.
My thoughts were broken by my phone ringing. "Shit." I hissed as I looked down at my hands that were covered in olive oil. I walked over the sink and quickly washed my hands before answering my phone.
"Hi, baby." I said pressed my phone between my ear and shoulder. "Hey, what are you doing?" Colby asked as I wiped my hands with a towel. "Cooking." I said with a smile as I walked over to the fridge.
"Why am I not surprised?" He asked with a laugh. "Because I'm bored as hell." I said then put him on speaker phone so I could cut some veggies. "What are you making?" He asked as I giggled. "Baby back ribs with baby carrots and deviled eggs." I said then took a sip of my water.
"You're so cute." Colby said as I laughed. "It's gonna go right over their heads." I said then went to the fridge so I could get a little snack for myself. I found that the more pregnant I got the hungrier I got. I was alright with that though because I was getting less sick.
"I can't wait to see their reactions." He said as I nodded. "Me too. I hope Ki and Kat can keep their mouths shut log enough for it to be a surprise." I said with a laugh. "They better." He said as I sat down.
"Are you on your way home?" I asked and started eating my banana. "Yeah, I gotta come help you make dinner." He said as I laughed. "Can you bring me an ice cream cone?" I asked then pursed my lips.
"You want an ice cream cone?" He asked with a laugh. "Yeah...I'm craving one." I said with a shrug. "Okay, I'll get you an ice cream cone then." He said as I nodded.
"Thank you, baby. I have to get back to cooking now or it'll never get done. Drive safe, I'll see you when you get home." I said then made a kissy noise. "See you when I get home." He said then hung up.
I sighed then put my phone down and looked down at my stomach. "What music do you want to listen to?" I asked and rubbed my belly. "Paramore? I knew you had taste." I said then put on the music and started cooking again.
Before I knew it, Colby was walking into the kitchen with a mostly melted ice cream cone. "I come with a mess." He said as I laughed and went over to take the cone from him.
"That probably wasn't the best craving to satisfy, but thank you." I said then walked over to the sink so I could eat my ice cream cone without making a huge mess.
Once I was done with that, I turned to help Colby cut and peel the hard boiled eggs. I was mostly done with everything but the ribs needed to cook for a little while longer.
We quickly made the deviled eggs then went upstairs to get ready since people were going to be here soon. I decided to wear some black maternity jeans and a black sweater so my bump would be easy to see but also hidden.
I did my hair and makeup and tried to look as nice as possible. I hadn't had any reason to get all prettied up so I was taking this and running with it.
"Woooow look at you." Colby said as he finished straightening his hair. "I'm fancy." I said with a giggle and twirled around.
"You look good." He said then leaned in and gave me a kiss. "Thank you, you have to tell the baby the same..it can hear you now, ya know." I said and rubbed my belly.
"Yeah?" He asked with a grin then leaned down as I nodded. "Yep." I said as he put his hands on my little bump. "I can't wait to meet you." He said then kissed my belly, which made my heart swell.
We finished getting ready then went downstairs to set up before everyone started getting here.
"Hey, V! You look pretty." Devyn said as she and Xepher came into the house. "Thank you, thank you." I said with a laugh and gave them each a hug.
"Something smells so good." Jake said as he and Tara came into the kitchen. "Violet's been cooking literally all day." Colby said as I walked over to finish making the roasted veggies.
"I want you to teach me how to cook." Tara said as I nodded. "I'd be happy to teach you." I said with a smile as everyone else filed into the house.
We sat around for a while as we waited for everyone to arrive. Once everyone was here we got our food and sat down at the table that I had set up.
"Why so fancy?" Corey asked as I shrugged. "I don't know, I was just really bored." I said with a shrug as I drank my grape juice. "I think it's fun." Kat said with a wide smile.
"Yeah, we should do fancy things more often." Sam said as we started eating.
I looked over at Colby about halfway through the meal then raised my brows. "Can we do it?" I asked as he breathed a laugh. "Right now? In front of our friends?" I asked as Ki groaned.
"You guys are so gross." She said with a laugh as I shook my head. "Not that! I meant our announcement." I said as everyone looked at me.
"You're getting married again." Jake said as I giggled and shook my head. "No, Jake." I said as Colby pulled the latest sonogram out of his pocket.
"No way!" Devyn squeeled as he held it up. "We're pregnant." Colby said as everyone broke out into huge smiles.
"Stop!! I'm gonna cry!" Cassie said as she put her hands on her cheeks. "We're 17 weeks along." I explained as I stood up and smoothed my sweater down to show my bump.
"Oh my god! We're having a baby!" Kevin yelled as I laughed and looked over at Colby with a wide smile. "Do you know the gender yet? This is SO exciting!" Devyn said and clapped her hands together.
"No, we'll find out this week. Kat wants to throw a gender reveal party." Colby said with a smile as he took my hand. "Yep! Next Tuesday, mark your calendars." Kat said with a wide grin.
"This is amazing." Xepher said with a smile as I looked over at her. "I was wondering if you could help me paint the nursery. I think you would do an amazing job." I said as she nodded. "I'd love to." She said with a smile.
We let the excitement die down a little bit before we started eating again. Everyone was so happy for us, asking us all sorts of questions, which I thought was cute.
It made me so happy that we had a supportive group of friends that would be here for us through everything.
Our kid had the best aunts and uncles ever.
