Colby's POV
I thought I knew what it felt like to be in love. I thought there was no more room in my heart to love anyone as much as I loved Violet.
Then I saw Nova.
The second I laid my eyes on her, I knew that she and Luna were going to be the most important things in the world to me.
I knew in that moment that I would do anything for those girls.
"Violet? Violet, stay with me." Amy said to Violet, snapping me back into reality as I walked back over to her after cutting Nova's umbilical chord.
"M'tired." Violet whispered as Amy looked at me. "Keep her awake." She said then focused on Violet again. "You have to stay awake, V. You're so close." I said as Violet looked up at me.
I felt my heart break in my chest at the sight of her. She looked absolutely exhausted. I wanted to tell her to stop and to rest but I knew that she still had to push out one more baby.
She had to be strong for just a little while longer.
"I can't do it." She whispered as I shook my head. "You got this. You're so strong, V. Just keep pushing." I said then cupped her cheek and kissed her forehead gently.
"Okay, Violet. Push for me." Amy said as Violet ripped gaze away from me then nodded and pushed.
"Good. Keep going." Amy said as Violet collapsed against the bed. "I can't do it." She whispered with so much pain it broke my heart.
"Violet, if you don't push, this baby will die. You HAVE to push." Amy said which caused my heart to stop.
I wanted so badly to switch places with Violet. I wished with all of my heart that I could give her even an ounce of my energy because she was fighting so hard.
She looked determined but exhausted as she took a deep breath.
I watched as she pushed so hard that her fact turned red. Both her monitor and the baby monitor were going off, sending panic through my chest.
I had to be strong though.
"Keep going, V. You've got this baby." I encouraged as Violet screamed. "Okay, stop for just a second." Amy said as the nurses ran Nova out of the room for some reason.
I wanted to ask why she was being taken away but I had to focus on Violet and Luna right now. Nova was in good hands.
"One more big push." Amy said as Violet squeezed my hand and pushed as hard as she could.
I felt a sense of relief as Amy pulled Luna out and started to try and get her to breathe. Both of the girls were small but Luna was just a little smaller.
I watched as Amy tried desperately to get her to cry. I was frozen for what felt like forever before I looked down at Violet. She looked so zoned out that it actually scared me.
"Hey...Violet." I said then gently smacked her cheek, but she didn't move at all. "Violet!" I cried out as Amy worked tirelessly to get a cry from Luna.
"Violet, look at me baby. You're okay." I said as the life left her eyes.
I felt the panic start to set in as Violet's machine started going off while her eyes rolled back. "She's flatlining!" A nurse yelled as Luna's cries finally sounded through the room.
"Colby come cut this chord. NOW!" Amy yelled as I dropped Violet's hand and quickly cut the chord.
"Take her to the NICU!" Amy yelled then passed the baby off to one of the nurses.
