"I know...I know I'm not daddy but will you please relax?" I asked Nova as she screamed in my arms. The girls were having a hard time sleeping, which I would assume was because Colby wasn't here.
Luna was sleeping in the nursery, since I was just able to get her to settle down before Nova started up again. I had brought Nova to the bedroom so she wouldn't wake up Luna.
I hadn't slept a wink since they were alternating in their meltdowns. "Please, sweetie." I whispered and bounced her. I could feel a meltdown of my own starting to bubble within me.
I hated that I couldn't handle the pressure of all of this by myself. I always thought that I was an independent person so realizing that I couldn't handle this situation by myself was killing me.
"Shhhh." I said and rubbed her back as she cried into my shoulder. "Do you want me to call him? I can call him." I said and sniffled as Luna started crying in the nursery.
"No.." I cried out as tears trickled down my cheeks. I grabbed my phone and called Colby as I walked to the nursery to get Luna. Nova had mostly calmed down but she was still awake which meant she was a ticking time bomb to start crying again.
"Hey, baby." Colby answered as I walked into the nursery. "Are you crying? Are you okay?" Colby asked as I sniffled and pulled Luna into my embrace. "They miss you." I whispered as I sat on the floor with the girls in my arms.
"Oh no...have they kept you up for long?" He asked as I nodded and put him on speaker phone so I could soothe the girls. "I haven't slept at all." I said quietly as Nova and Luna looked up at me.
They were no longer crying but their eyes were full of tears as they frowned at me. "I'm so sorry, baby. What can I do?" He asked as I sighed. "Can you sing to them?" I asked as the girls fussed. "You got it." He said then started singing a lullaby.
I leaned my head back against the wall as he sang. I always loved when he sang because he had such a good voice. It only took a couple minutes before the girls were both sleeping in my arms.
"V?" Colby asked as I hummed, opening my eyes again. "Go to sleep, baby." He said quietly as I sniffled. "I wish you were here." I said quietly as I attempted to stand up without waking up the girls. "I know, I wish I was there too." He said quietly as I laid the girls down in their cribs.
I leaned down and kissed each of their heads. Once they were settled I grabbed my phone and made my way to the bedroom. "I'm sorry for failing." I said quietly as he sighed. "You're not failing, V. It's hard and I'm so proud of you." Colby said as I walked to the bedroom.
"I should be able to do this." I said and sniffed. "It's not as easy as it seems, V. We had a schedule and we had our roles in parenting. It's hard to get two babies to adjust to a new schedule for a couple days. You're doing amazing, Violet." Colby said as I crawled into bed.
"I don't know. I think I'm just tired. I said with a sigh. "I know you are, just try to keep your head up, baby." He said as I nodded. "I will. How are things going there?" I asked and tried to get comfortable.
"It's fine. I really hate this place though, it always gives me bad vibes." Colby explained as I nodded. "Has anything happened?" I asked with a yawn. "Yeah, just basic stuff though. Nothing too crazy has happened yet." Colby explained as I nodded.
"Keep it that way." I said with another yawn as he breathed a laugh. "Okay. Get some rest, baby girl. I love you." He said as I nodded. "Luh you more." I mumbled as I drifted off to sleep.
I was sure I heard him say something else but I couldn't understand it before I fell asleep.
I woke up a couple hours later to the girls screaming. "Shit." I groaned then got out of bed as fast as possible. I jogged to the nursery then went over to the girls' cribs.
"I'm so sorry. Mommy was sleeping. I'm here now." I said then quickly scooped them both into my arms so I could feed them.
I sat in the rocking chair and fed them at the same time. I knew it would be hard to burp them at the same time but I needed to get them fed since I was a horrible mom and slept through them crying.
Once they were fed, I got them changed then ready for the day. "Okay, girls. Let's go downstairs." I said with a sigh.
I went downstairs and set the girls up in their swings so I could make myself some breakfast. "What should I have?" I asked as I turned to the babies. They both looked at me with blank expressions as I chuckled.
"Right, okay I need to give you options." I said then turned towards the pantry. "Eggs or pancakes?" I asked and held up the pancake mix in one hand and a carton of eggs in the other.
Nova smiled and looked over at Luna as Luna looked at Nova. "Oh, we're plotting." I said with a laugh as I watched them.
They stared at each other for a minute before looking at me. They both kicked their legs and smiled as I grinned. "Okay, eggs." I said then turned to the stove.
I decided to make myself some steak and eggs as my phone rang. "Of course." I grumbled as I set my hot food on the counter. "Hello?" I answered as someone giggled on the other side of the phone.
"Hey! Long time no talk!" Chad said as I grinned. "Chad! How have you been?" I asked with a smile as I sat down so I could eat. "I'm great! A little birdie told me you're coming to Colorado." He said as I squinted my eyes. "Who would tell you that?" I asked as he breathed a laugh. "I'll never tell." He said as I nodded.
"Fair. I assume you want to meet up. You can meet my daughters." I said as he gasped. "DAUGHTERS?!" He asked as I laughed. "Yep, two little girls." I said and looked over at them as they slept.
"There is NO way you're a mom. Colby's the dad right?" Chad said as I nodded. "Of course my husband is the dad." I said with a grin. "HUSBAND?!" He shrieked as I laughed. "Do you even follow my Instagram?" I asked as he chuckled.
"Oh, no honey. Instagram is out." He said as I rolled my eyes playfully. "Right, my bad." I said with a laugh. "I want to see you when you're here." He said as I nodded.
"I'll try to squeeze you in. Do you still work at the restaurant?" I asked and started eating. "Work there? No no, I own it now." He said as I gasped. "Oh, no fucking way." I said with a laugh.
"Yep, so you can come and get free food, not like you need it since you're married to a billionaire." He said as I rolled my eyes playfully. "He's not a billionaire." I said as Nova started crying.
"Shit...Chad I have to go. I will call you later, but I'm so proud of you! I can't wait to see you." I said and went over to Nova.
"I'll talk to you later. Love you, Violet!" Chad said as I pulled Nova out of her swing. "Love you too, bye." I said then hung up the phone.
"Okay, sweetie. Shhhh." I said then hugged Nova. "It's okay, honey." I cooed as I bounced her. I held her for a little while before she finally calmed down again. "Good little bean." I said then put her back in her swing.
I finished up my breakfast then cleaned the kitchen before taking the girls into the living room with me. I laid on the floor with them for a while, trying to entertain them as best as I could.
They really liked when I would make silly faces at them and wave toys in front of their faces. It amazed me how easily entertained they were but also how adorable they were. I genuinely loved them with my entire heart.
We sat around for a little while longer before my phone started ringing again. "Wow, mommy is so popular today." I said with a laugh then grabbed my phone. "Hello?" I answered as I tickled Luna's tummy.
I didn't hear anyone talking for a minute which causing me scrunch my brow. "Hello?" I asked again as the person on the other side of the phone sighed.
"Why didn't you tell me you got married?" The person asked on the other line.
