The next couple days were hard. Nova was doing a little bit better but we weren't able to see her yet. Luna was starting to get really fussy being trapped in this hospital room with us.
I was having an extremely hard time sleeping, meaning I was in a constant cycle of not sleeping until I would pass out. It wasn't the most practical thing but I couldn't help it.
I was constantly worried.
"Maybe we should get out of this room today." Colby said as he rocked Luna. "We can go see Nova." I said as he sighed. "Then maybe we can go get some fresh air..." He said as I scrunched my brow. "You want to leave the hospital?" I asked as he nodded.
"I think it would be good for us." He said as Luna cried and reached towards me. "I don't know about that." I said then grabbed Luna from Colby. "I know you don't want to leave her, but there's nothing we can do. Luna needs some fresh air." He said as I sighed.
I knew he was right but I couldn't just let myself leave, knowing that Nova was here, fighting for her life.
"We'll see...Let's go see Nova." I said as I bounced Luna. Colby nodded then led the way out of the room.
When we got to Nova's room we looked into the little window that was looking into her room. "Hi, Nova bear." I said as I took Luna's hand and her wave to her sister. "Say hi to sissy." I said quietly as I waved her hand.
"Look, V." Colby said and pointed to Nova as she looked over at us and smiled. "Hi, honey." Colby said as I smiled widely at Nova. "Oh, I love her." I whispered as a nurse walked over to us. "She's doing much better." She said as I rubbed Luna's back, swaying side to side.
"Do you think there's going to be any long term effects?" Colby asked as she shrugged. "It's hard to tell but I think we caught it early enough for a full recovery." She explained as I nodded.
"That's good. How much longer until we can see her?" I asked as she sighed. "Just a couple more days. You guys have been so strong." She said as I smiled slightly. "We're trying." I said then looked at Colby.
He was looking into the room at Nova, trying to get her to laugh. I smiled at him for a second before he looked at me. "I love her." He said as I giggled. "Yeah, I do too." I said then looked down at Luna.
"Wanna go to the park?" I asked as Colby grinned at me. "Really?" Colby asked as I nodded. "Yeah, let's go." I said with a small smile. "Okay." He said then took my hand. "Bye, Nova. I love you." I said and waved as we walked away.
"I'm so happy she's doing better." I said quietly as we walked towards the elevator so we could leave. It felt weird leaving without Nova but Colby was right.
It was going to be good for us to leave for a little while.
We made our way out to the car and got in. "Did you want to stop and get some food?" Colby asked as I shrugged. "Maybe we can stop and get some on the way back." I said and took Colby's hand. "Okay then, to the park we go." He said then started driving.
We drove for a couple minutes before we got to the closest park. "Are you excited, Luna?" I asked and looked behind me so I could look at her. She had a small frown on her face as she looked around with a blank expression.
"Do you miss Nova?" I asked, catching her attention. "I know, I miss her too." I said quietly then got out of the car. "Should we use the stroller or should we just carry her?" I asked as I pulled Luna into my arms.
"I think I have one of the harnesses in the trunk. You can wear that if you want." He said as I nodded. "Yeah, let's do that." I said as he opened the trunk so he could look for the harness.
"You can wear it if you want to look all dilfy." I said as he pulled it out. "You want me to look dilfy don't you?" He asked as I wiggled my brows. "Kinda." I said as he grinned and started putting the harness on.
"You get to walk with daddy, isn't that fun?" I asked and bounced Luna as she looked around, taking her surroundings in.
"Don't you wish you could ride daddy, too?" Colby asked as my eyes widened. "That is so inappropriate." I said with a laugh as I kissed Luna's head. "Mhmm." He said then held his hands out. "Give me Luna." He said as I smiled and handed her off to him.
Once she was settled into the harness he strapped her up then looked at me. "Woooww...You look hot." I said as he grinned and took my hand. "Let's go on a walk." He said as I nodded.
We walked down the path for a little while before we reached a little pond. "Look at the pond!" I said to Luna as I took her hand, shaking it. I felt my heart warm up as she giggled playfully and looked up at Colby.
"There's my happy girl." I said as Colby kissed Luna's head. "It feels weird only having one baby." I said quietly as I looked up at the sky. "Yeah, remember we thought we were only having one baby?" Colby asked with a laugh as I nodded.
"Yeah, this one was a professional hide and seek player." I said and caressed Luna's cheek as she pointed to a butterfly that was passing by.
"I still can't believe we are parents." Colby said as I giggled. "I know. It seems like just yesterday that we met." I said quietly as I reached over to pick up a rock.
"Yeah, I'm glad I met you." He said then wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "I'm glad I met you, too." I said then leaned my head on his shoulder.
We spent about and hour and a half at the park before we decided to head back to the hospital. We stopped and got some chipotle on the way since we were both pretty hungry.
When we got back to the hospital we went up to our room so I could feed Luna and get her ready for a nap. "I want to see Nova just one more time, if you want to come." I said as I laid Luna down in her bed.
"I don't want to leave Luna alone, you can go though." He said as I nodded. "I'll be back." I said then walked out of the room. I made my way downstairs then walked over to Nova's room.
This time when I walked over to the room Nova was crying, and a nurse was holding her while wearing full gear. I felt my eyes well up with tears at the sight. "I'm so sorry, love." I whispered then put my hand on the glass.
I could tell she was crying because she wanted Colby or I because when she saw me through the window she screamed and reached for me. "Soon, sweetie.." I said as the nurse walked over and showed her that I was there.
I waved to her and painted a smile on my face so I could try and cheer her up. After a few seconds she was calming down and falling asleep.
As soon as she was calmed down I turned to go back upstairs since my heart was torn apart. I was able to hold back the tears until I walked back into our room, where Colby was.
"Woah...hey, what's going on?" Colby asked as he put his food aside so he could get up and comfort me. "She's so sad." I whispered and wrapped my arms around him. "What happened?" He asked and held me tightly.
"She was crying....a-and she was looking for us." I said and rested my head on his chest. "I know this is hard, baby. She's so close to being with us again. She won't even remember any of this because we're going to give her so much love." Colby said as he scratched my back.
"Yeah, I just wish I could hold her and help her through it. She's just a baby...she doesn't understand that she's sick, she just thinks we left her." I said as my lip quivered. "I know, love. You and I both know that we aren't leaving her though." He said as I nodded and pulled away, wiping my cheeks.
"I know....I'm sorry. This is just hard." I said quietly as I walked over to the bed where my food was. "It is, but we're getting through it." He said then sat next to me on the bed. "Yeah, we are." I agreed then grabbed my food.
We ate our chipotle, then spent the rest of the night cuddling before Colby fell asleep. I wanted to sleep too, but I just couldn't do it.
I couldn't sleep until our little family was complete again.
