Kyo laid sprawled on his bed, snoring with his mouth wide open. He jumped off the bed with a yelp as soon as a hot hand was placed on the nape of his neck.
He quickly got onto his feet and looked around, only to see his father, standing at the side of the bed with his arms crossed.
"What do you want?" Kyo asked, annoyed. "It's Sunday!"
"Mother's Day Sunday," Saisyu corrected. "Kyo, it's 9th May!"
"So what if it is?" Kyo croaked, his hand travelling under his shirt to scratch his back. "It's not like we planned anything..."
Saisyu grunted and dragged his son out of the room, ignoring his protests.
"Dad, Dad what's this about?" Kyo said, trying to wriggle free. "It's just Mother's Day, we can take mom out for dinner later, okay?"
Saisyu stopped in the living room and turned to face him. "Yeah, what about breakfast? Kyo, I can't make breakfast! I'll burn the food!"
Kyo rolled his eyes. "So that's what this was all about? Seriously, Dad..."
"Fine fine," Saisyu said, pushing him to the kitchen. "Help me prepare something, okay? I'm not good with pancakes."
"Then just make Tamagoyaki or something," Kyo said, turning to his father while being pushed. "You're good with that sort of thing, right?"
"Yeah but..." Saisyu paused and smirked. "Pancakes..."
"Seriously Dad..." Kyo sighed. "Come on..."
Together, they made pancakes for Shizuka. Well, for themselves too actually.
Suddenly, Saisyu felt something sharp touch his neck. He froze as soon as he recognised the feeling of cool metal against his skin, which could only mean one thing...
"Shizu?" Saisyu said, afraid to even turn around. "You're awake!"
"What you guys doing?" Shizuka asked, deadpan. "You guys are trying to bribe me, aren't ya?"
"Mom, chill out!" Kyo said, pulling the naginata away from his father. "Mom... it's Mother's Day..."
"Oh so that's why you guys are busy," Shizuka grinned, lowering the naginata. "Anyway, what's cooking?"
"Fish," Saisyu joked before Kyo could.
"Pancakes," Kyo rolled his eyes. "Very funny, Dad."
They had their breakfast together at their chabudai.
"I must say, you guys are good at making pancakes," Shizuka complimented while eating. "Anyway, what's for lunch?"
"We're gonna eat out," Saisyu said. "I'll spend."
Kyo cheered.
"Kyo's spending for dinner," Saisyu added with a smirk. Kyo stopped cheering and gave him a shocked look. "What's wrong, Kyo?"
"Fine, I will," Kyo said with a sigh. He suddenly remembered something. "Gimme a minute."
He rushed to his room and came back with something long. Shizuka instantly recognised it. She unwrapped it and laughed. "You got me a naginata?"
"No," Kyo smirked as he watched her unpack it. "It's a Guandao!"
"Still the same as naginata," Saisyu added with a shrug. "Just that the size is different, and the blade is bigger."
"Do you like it?" Kyo asked, waiting for his mother's response.
"Yeah I love it," Shizuka said, sheathing it back. "Thanks, Kyo."
"You're welcome, Ma," Kyo said proudly. "Let's watch a movie after this."Since Vanessa was the only mother in the team, Ramon, Mary and Kevin decided to do something nice for her.
Like taking her to a beer garden.
"Guys, I can't drink," Vanessa said, much to her surprise. "Sorry..."
"Did your husband forbid you from drinking?!" Mary asked in shock. "Van, tell us if he is! We'll talk some sense into him."
"No no, it has nothing to do with Luis!" Vanessa quickly said, shaking her head. She suddenly smiled. "Actually it does. I'm pregnant."
"Oh my gosh!" Mary said, hugging Vanessa. "Since when?!"
"Not sure," Vanessa said with a shrug. "But I only found out yesterday."
They ditched the beer garden and took her to Restaurant L'Amor instead. Ramon was happy for her. Well, he didn't really mind her being happy with her husband, considering he had Veronica now instead.
Which made Vanessa secretly spy on them sometimes.
Vanessa found yet another pleasant surprise when she got home. Apparently, her family and Luis planned a secret party for Mother's Day too.The Yagamis on the other hand, had nothing to do for the day. Whenever they scrolled through social media, the first thing they see was a picture of one of their friends with their mothers.
"I wish our mothers were still alive..." Aiko sighed. She turned to her brother who played on his tablet. "Niisan, what was my mother like?"
Iori closed his tablet and put it on the coffee table. He went on to tell her how Keiko was when she was alive.
"She was a very loving woman," Iori said, remembering his stepmother. "She didn't treat me like a stepson at all. She treated me like I was her real son."
"You still remember her?" Aiko asked, surprised. "Niisan, you were just three years old when she died!"
"Yes, but I still cherish the memories I had with her," Iori smiled. "I still remember the first time I met her."
He went on to tell her about the time their father brought Keiko home for the first time. Aiko listened eagerly, sipping her warm cup of jasmine tea.
That night, the two of them wore black clothing and went to Tsukishima to visit their mothers' grave. It still saddened Iori that he never really got to see his mother. At least, he managed to meet Keiko.
Aiko was worse, all she had were her father, though he was drunk most of the time, their uncle, who died young too, and her big brother. She was glad that Iori managed to correct the mistake that their ancestors did more than six hundred years ago.K' and Zayn helped Kula and Isolde to prepare something nice for Foxy and Diana. They weren't really mothers, but they were the only mother figures they ever had in their lives.
"Can I make an ice sculpture?" Kula asked, grinning.
"Can, but it would melt," Zayn chuckled. "Unless it's like one of those Elsa things."
Kula thought about it. Elsa had ice powers, but was able to make beautiful dresses that looked and felt like fabric. But not melt even when it's made of ice.
K' frowned at Zayn. He turned back to Kula and smiled. "I don't think that's a good idea, Princess."
"Oh okay," Kula said, frowning thoughtfully. Then she got an idea. "I know what to get for Foxy!"
K' smirked as he silently admired how adorable she was.
"I'll buy her some Foie Gras!" Kula said with a grin. Then she frowned again. "What about Diana..."
"What does she like?" K' asked, whipping out a pack of beef jerky. "Besides cookies and you, that is."
Kula shrugged.
"She likes collecting butterfly specimens," Zayn said, stealing one of K's beef jerky.
Kula lit up. "That's it! I'll get her a specimen. She told me that she wanted to collect the Rajah Brooke's Birdwing. Thanks Dash!"
To K's surprise, she planted a kiss on his cheek and rushed off to her room. He stared after her in shock, a hand on his cheek.
"That's kinda mean..." Zayn frowned, chewing his beef jerky. "I'm the one that gave her the idea!"
He shook his head and turned to K'. To his surprise, he just stared ahead, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. He waved a hand in front of his face, but no response.
"Oi!" Zayn shouted, shaking his shoulder slightly. K' jumped and looked at him. "Dash!"
"Dude she just kissed me," K' said in disbelief. Then he started shaking him. "DUDE! She just kissed me!"
"Yeah, so?" Zayn said, not seeing why it was a big deal. "Dash, she's your girlfriend."
K' rushed off to his room and started writing it down in his diary. He even dabbed the page onto his face to blot the pink lip print onto the page.
Krizalid, who was on his bed, just stared at him, not knowing what the heck he was actually doing.
"Dash, what are you doing?" Krizalid asked, watching K' press his face against the journal. He went him and put a hand on his shoulder. K' instantly dropped the book, and he saw the pink lip print on the open page. Krizalid smirked. "Your girl kissed you?"
"Yeah?" K' said, trying to act cool. "What about it?"
Krizalid grinned and shook his head, going back to his bed, silently mourning the fact that he was the only single guy in the house.
Same thing goes for Foxy too, but they still didn't really realise this...Kula went next door and rang the bell. Diana opened, her hair pulled tightly up in a poofy cloud. She grinned, holding up a specimen of Rajah Brooke's birdwing.
"Happy Mother's Day, Diana!" Kula said cheerfully. She immediately put her arms around her, squeezing her in a tight hug.
Diana smiled and invited her in. She always wanted a specimen of the rare butterfly.
"Thanks, Kula," Diana smiled.
"Where's Foxy?" Kula asked, looking around.
"Probably sulking around because I finished her precious honey," Diana chuckled. "Oh well..."
Kula got up and went to Foxy's room. She saw her sitting on her bed, watching some K-Drama on her laptop with headphones.
"Foxy!" Kula cried, leaping onto her bed, almost squashing the laptop. "Happy Mother's Day!"
"Thanks, Kula," Foxy smiled, closing her laptop and putting it aside together with her headphones. Then she spotted the white paper bag that Kula was holding. "What's that?"
"It's for you," Kula said, handing the bag to her with two hands. "Open it!"
Foxy did, and turns out it was Foie Gras. Foxy smiled and started eating. It was her favourite, though she never really had it before.
"Oh it tastes better than I imagined!" Foxy smiled, covering her mouth to avoid food from spilling out. "Thanks Kula!"
Kula laughed cheerfully and pulled her to the living room. They watched K-Dramas together on the tv.I know, I'm a day late, but still... it was hard writing this chapter. I don't know why, but KOF has a shortage of mothers. Like take the BOF members for example. Iori's mother is dead, Terry is an orphan, Athena's mom... was never shown, Nakoruru's mom is in the past, definitely dead now, and... only Kyo has an active mom. Even K', though he's only in the band in my books, doesn't even know anything about himself, aside from being Seirah's brother.
