Hey guys! This is a request by @StarlightBunnyRabbit
Sorry it took quite a time to make but here it is! Sorry if it's too short, it was because I had to juggle a lot of WIPs in the making of this. As I mentioned before, there's a book I'm working on offline. Actually, there's two, and I'm happy to say that one of them is KOF! Oh and I'm also working on a chapter for Kula's birthday, and also might make one for Benimaru. I realised that the ones I made last year was more to a behind the scenes than an actual chapter but eh. Maybe I won't. After all, I've got a lot on my hands as it is. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter!"The library?" Kyo frowned as he looked out the window, seeing how Chizuru's limousine stopped right in front of it. "Why the library?"
"Because... why not?" Chizuru chuckled. "After all, a little studying wouldn't hurt, right?"
"Yeah, but it might hurt Kyo," Iori smirked, taking his bag. "Anyway, I wanna check out some books!"
"I wanna see if they have any Martial Arts stories," Shingo chimed in. "Come on!"
"They do have kids' books too, right?" Aiko asked. There was silence at this, making everyone look at her in surprise. "What, literally no one said an adult can't read kids' books, right?"
"You're right," Iori agreed. "Kids' books are fun."
"I agree too," Chizuru chuckled before addressing her driver. "Pick us up later, Nara-san. I'll give you a call as soon as we're done."
"Yes, Milady," the driver bowed slightly in respect.
"Let's go," Chizuru said, opening the door to get out.
The four of them got out and stared at the library in awe.
"To be honest, this is the first time I'm entering this library," Kyo remarked as he looked at the library, much to the other two people's surprise.
"You have seriously never been to a library?" Iori said in surprise. Kyo shook his head, frowning. "Oh my gosh... you're stupider than I thought..."
Kyo growled and stomped away into the library, Shingo at his heels. Iori, Aiko, and Chizuru followed, laughing.Kyo and Shingo stepped into the library in awe, gaping at the number of books neatly arranged on shelves. Not one part of the wall was bare, all lined with shelf upon shelf.
"Whoa... this place is magnificent!" Kyo remarked, staring at the number of books. "So many books!"
"They allow us to borrow, right?" Shingo said next. "Because I feel like I'll be spending my whole life here if not."
"Do they have mystery/thriller?" Iori grinned, making his way towards a bunch of shelves to look for his desired genre.
Chizuru smirked. "Have any recommendations, Yagami?"
"Where's the Martial Arts section?" Shingo said thoughtfully, looking around.
"I wanna see the children's section," Aiko smirked. "Any idea where it is?"
"Near the mystery section, I think," Chizuru said. "Come on."
All of them parted ways to find whatever books they wanted while Kyo decided to just see what might interest him.
Suddenly, he came to a large shelf of glass, filled with books and books brown with age. Kyo pressed his face against the glass, causing a cloud of vapour to appear, and tried to read the titles of each book.
One book caught his eye. The book was called The Pirate Legends of The Seven Seas. Kyo gasped and tried to open the shelf but to his dismay, it was locked up tight. He frowned and looked around for a librarian and found the counter nearby. Kyo ran to it.
"Hi, there I would like to check out a book in... that shelf?" Kyo politely said, pointing to the glass case. "How do I get it open?"
The librarian got off the desk with a key and followed him to that shelf, pulling on some gloves as she did. Kyo wondered why but just watched as she unlocked the shelf.
"Which book, sir?" The librarian asked.
"Uh... that one," Kyo said, pointing to The Pirate Legends of The Seven Seas. "The pirate one."
The librarian nodded and pulled it out of the shelf. She closed the case and handed him a pair of disposable rubber gloves.
"This book is very old, it cannot be handled with bare hands," the librarian explained. "Please handle it with care, sir."
Kyo saluted her with a chuckle and put the gloves on, almost tearing a hole in them, and took the book from her. "Thank you."
He smirked at the book and started looking for a place to sit. Kyo suddenly spotted Shingo waving at him from a table and went over.
"Look what I found!" Shingo shouted cheerfully, holding a book.
Instantly everyone around him made a shushing sound. Kyo chuckled and sat down in front of the younger man.
"Look what I found," Shingo whispered this time, still holding the book.
Shingo read the title and burst into silent laughter, since he was in a library. The book was titled The Ways of a Samurai.
"What book is that?" Shingo asked.
Kyo showed it to him but quietly explained why he couldn't touch it with bare hands since it was very old. Shingo nodded and went on reading his Samurai book.
Slowly but eagerly, Kyo opened the book and stared at the first page. It was an illustration of a group of sailors called the Sacred Crusaders, drawn with fine black lines. What surprised him is the fact that the members looked a lot like his friends, with one of them even resembling him.
"Whoa..." Kyo murmured in surprise. He looked up at Shingo and tapped his arm to get his attention. "Yo Shingo!"
He showed him the picture and Shingo gasped dramatically. "Wow!"
"I know right!" Kyo whisper-shouted. "By the way, do you have tracing paper? I wanna draw this."
Shingo nodded and handed him a few sheets of tracing paper which he had on him for some reason. Kyo took it and carefully placed it over the drawing.
But frowned since he didn't have anything to draw with.
"Shingo!" Kyo whisper-shouted again, interrupting the younger man from his reading yet again.
"What?" Shingo sighed.
"Do you have pencil?"
To Kyo's surprise, Shingo tossed his whole pencil case onto the table. Kyo whispered a thank you and started digging in the pouch, pulling out a few pencils and then some crayons. He went back to the ancient book and started tracing over the drawing, careful not to make lines that are too thick.
Kyo eventually finished and smirked, taking the paper off the book and laying it flat on the table to colour them with the crayons that Shingo had on him for some reason. He coloured the picture to look like his own team and grinned.
"Hey, Shingo!" Kyo grinned, showing the drawing to his friend. "We're pirates now!"
Everyone shushed him again so he just handed the sheet to Shingo. Shingo chuckled, seeing how he was seemingly a part of the Sacred Crusaders too.
"Nice," Shingo nodded and handed it back to him, going right back to his book.
Kyo rolled his eyes and flipped the page of the ancient book. He came to a page where there was a map, one that looked very much like the map of Japan but it was called the Dragon Kingdom.
"Ooo..." Kyo remarked, grabbing the tracing paper again and placing it on the book. He started drawing the map and even coloured it together since he wanted to mark the different regions.
Kyo suddenly got the urge to sneeze and oh how explosive it was. Even Chizuru, Iori, and Aiko heard it though they were sitting in a different corner of the library. The librarians instantly shushed him.
"Was that Kyo?" Chizuru asked, smirking. "Sounded like him..."
"Yep, it was," Iori nodded. "Definitely was. I've never heard such a loud sneeze come from anyone else."
Aiko chuckled. "He might've blown all the books away."Kyo recovered from his sneeze, a little annoyed by the mass of shushing, and went right back to tracing the map from the ancient book. The map was kinda large and it took quite some time to draw.
Just when he finished colouring one of the regions a bright green, he noticed something off. The tracing paper felt remarkably like old paper. That's when he noticed the tracing paper lying in front of him, not on the book.
It wasn't the tracing paper he was drawing on, he was drawing directly onto the book!
Kyo panicked. He rummaged in Shingo's pencil case and pulled out an eraser. He quickly erased the pencil marks from the book, careful not to tear the aged paper. But for some reason, the green just wouldn't go. He tried erasing a little harder there, but all that happened was the green becoming a little lighter, not disappearing.
He rummaged in Shingo's pencil case again and found something that might help.
Correction Fluid.
Kyo pulled the cap off and squeezed some of the liquid out before pressing against the map, obscuring the green with a stark white instead. A librarian suddenly walked by so he quickly shut the book, pushing it forward as he pretended to sort out Shingo's pencil case. As soon as the librarian left, he opened the book again, and to his dismay, the correction fluid not only covered the map but the page before it as well. It was a good thing it wasn't a drawing, but notes about the Dragon Kingdom's history. The white didn't really obscure any of the writings but it did leave a mess between the lines.
Kyo sighed and turned back to the map. Well, at least the green was fully covered. But it looked like a bird had pooped on it. He groaned and thought about what he could do.
Kyo suddenly got a new idea. He rummaged in Shingo's pencil case again and pulled out a pair of scissors. He smirked and carefully snipped away the ruined pages so neat that there wasn't a trace of two extra pages being there. The pages weren't marked so it wasn't really noticeable that Kyo had just snipped away two pages from the book. He stuffed the papers under his coat and closed the book, grinning at his accomplishment.
He got up and made his way towards the counter, handing the book to the librarian.
"I'm done with this book," Kyo said, handing the book to her.
The librarian smiled and took it, flipping the pages slightly to see any signs of damage. Kyo was glad that he removed the pages since the librarian didn't seem to notice, going over to the glass case and carefully placing it back on the shelf as if nothing was wrong. Kyo heaved a sigh of relief and went back to Shingo to just watch him read his Samurai book instead.
He eventually grew bored and went to play on the library PC, blasting music with the headphones provided.
