Ashton Pov
I get up off my bed and get dressed putting on a t-shirt and grey sweatpants picking up my bag i leave my room and walk downstairs meeting the family in the kitchen
"Hey Ash you ready" Josh asks me
"yep" I say holding up my bag he smiles and nods at me I walk and sit at the kitchen table Caroline walks in holding Layton in her arms
"so now we're just waiting on one" she says
"we'll be waiting for a while" I say thinking of her and smiling to myself Caroline chuckles sitting down at the table with me
"so Ash are you looking forward to going back to college" she asks me
"yeah I guess I have to get back on the track"
"Oh yeah when is worlds" she asks me
"well worlds aren't till February but qualifiers are in a few weeks" I tell her
"well good luck I wish we could come but you know kids" she says gesturing over to Layton sitting in a highchair eating blueberries
"I understand Care you and Josh have responsibilities here" I say smiling at her
"well hopefully your mom can come"
"yeah I hope she'll come to but if not at least Blake might be there" I say
"Yeah that's right I'm sure she'll come"
"what you guys talking about" my mom asks as she comes into the kitchen
"school" I say
"have you been keeping your grades up? Enjoying your major?" she asks me
"yes mom my grades are fine and engineering is fun I love it" I tell her
"well that's great honey you know your dad would be very proud of you" Nicole says as she comes to sit with us
"one can hope" I say as I see everyone turn and look at the doorway so I do the same and see Blake standing there
"Woah that was creepy" she says making us all burst out in laughter
"you ready to go sis" Josh asks her
"yeah" she says
"Okay we'll leave in a second but can I talk to you first" Josh says walking out of the kitchen with Blake resuming our conversation
"he would be so proud of you Ashton never doubt that" Nicole continues to assure me my mom just sitting quietly in the corner even though it's been many years since he passed it's still a sore topic for my mom
"I know I feel him with me every day" I say
"you're doing what he would have wanted you to do what you love" my mom manages to say to me I hear Josh laughing behind me so I turn to see them walking back into the kitchen
"Why are you so smiley" I ask Blake
"Have you told him yet" she turns and asks Josh
"yeah he knows" Josh says
"know what? what do I know?" I ask
"what I told you on club night in my drunken state" he tells me
"huh?"
"I'll tell you later" Blake says
"kay are you guys ready to go" Josh asks us
"yeah" we both say picking up our bags and heading to the door everyone following us out to the driveway me and Josh pack the car as Blake says goodbye to everyone when im done putting her bags in the car I walk over to my mom to ask her about the race
"so are you guys gonna come to my race" I ask
"when is it honey" Nicole asks me sucking back some tears from saying goodbye to Blake
"the 8th the willow brook raceway" I tell her
"we'll probably watch on tv" my mom says hurting me internally
"really mom you know this is the race that will qualify me for worlds" I say silently hoping she'll change her mind
"that's wonderful honey I just don't want to fly out there for that" My mom says digging deeper
"ugh whatever mom blake you ready to go" I ask her
"yeah I'm ready" she says hopping in the car as we pull out the driveway I sigh and turn to Josh
"can you believe her ¨i just don't want to fly out for that¨ for what support your son" I say starting my rant
"i get it dude it was completely ignorant of her" Josh says
"AAAA just makes me wanna scream" I say
"hey don't let her get to you if it makes you feel any better I'll be there" Blake says sitting her hand on my shoulder I turn to look at her thinking of Blake in the crowd cheering me on on one of my big days making me smile
"Thanks Blake at least ill have one supporter" I say
"Hey I'll be supporting just from home" Joshs says
"yes Josh I know just you know what I mean in-person" I say turning on the radio we all start jamming out to the songs that come on pulling to the airport looking like a bunch of crazies Blake and I get out of the car and Josh helps us unload and we say our goodbyes to him walking away into the airport when we get in and the doors close behind us i look over to Blake and say "so now we're family free"
"yeah"
"you know what that means" I ask
"no what?" she asks me
"I can do this" I says placing my hand on her face and kissing her sweetly she pulls away to speak
"how long can you do that for" she asks me
"as long as you want baby" I tell her
"so till we get home got it" she says making me pause but she starts walking away
"what do you mean till we get home? Do you not want me to touch you at college" I ask catching her
"I just don't want to tell anybody yet you get that don't you?" she asks me
"Yeah I guess" I say grabbing her hand walking with her through the airport to the terminal as we board our plane taking seats right next to each other refusing to let her go.
