Chapter 12: Just A Peek

"Please, your royal majesty," a guard cried, on his knees in front of his master, "I don't know what happened!"

Rei gave a cold look to the men kneeling in front of him. He sat on the throne, resting his chin on his left hand while his feet were rested over the other arm of the royal seat. His crown was set on his yellow hair, his violet eyes lacking any sort of emotion besides anger and loneliness, some hurt lying within as well. His elaborate outfit consisted of red and white, a fake fur coat resting around his shoulders, its cape tucked under him as he sat. The mere sight of the male's regal form coated the area with a dominating aura, intimidating anyone in his presence.

"I grow tired of your drivel," the blonde snapped, "Do you understand what's at stake if you don't tell me exactly what happened? Do any of you have a clue how impatient I am?!"

"Y-Yes, your highness," the guard uttered, not daring to look up at his king.

"Then spit it the fuck out!"

"Rei!" the male's mother scolded, hiking up her dress to storm over to her son, "Where have you learned that kind of garbage language?! It is so very unbecoming of a - "

The woman stopped walking when she saw the deadly glare the blonde was shooting her. It was unlike anything she had ever seen as if she did something even slightly offending to him that he would kill her. That was not far from the case, considering that the male was furious and tense with the disappearance of his beloved. Before he was more at peace, taking some offenses made to him and dismissing them with tranquility. However, at that moment, any slight offense to himself would have given him cause to rip their throats from their necks or their hearts from their chests.

"I'll have you repeat what you said happened!" Rei spoke, his voice becoming more elevated to show his seriousness, "But this time, you will do so in truth! Lie to me, and I promise that you will be dealt with."

"Of course, your majesty!" the guard shivered, "I was accompanying the lady (Y/n) as you had instructed of me. She was all ready to join you at the coronation, but we saw a wild beast!"

"A wild beast," the blonde scoffed, giving a roll of his eyes as he massaged his temples, "A wild fucking beast?! What? Was it a dragon? No, it couldn't have possibly been! Perhaps it was a basilisk!"

Rei spoke sarcastically, mocking the words of the guard that had sworn to tell him honestly what had happened. However, he was still faced with the very real fact that the (h/c) haired girl was gone and that he had no leads on how to find her. The fact irritated him to no end, prompting him to have a more foul mood than otherwise. It would have been a simple thing to have evidence to go off of, but all he had was the very confused words of a handful of guards who claimed they saw a "wild beast".

"Get them out of my sight," the male growled, standing up abruptly and leaving to head to his chambers.

The male's royal guards, which he had chosen himself, nodded and honored the blonde's wishes, taking the other guards to their captivity. It was bound to be temporary one way or the other. Either they would be released when Rei saw fit, finding them to be more useful alive and well or they would be executed for treason. However, they were placed in a place far worse than any prison.

There was a place under the royal castle with caverns galore. Among said caverns was a temple ruin from a time long past. It was one in which many rumors circulated, many saying that it used to be a demon's playhouse. There was little way to prove the rumors were true or false, but if it weren't for the stigma of said rumors wearing on the prisoners' minds and driving them insane, there was also a large risk of illness. Rats run among the place, carrying with them diseases of all kinds and sharp teeth. Their stay there would not be pleasant as was the punishment for defying the king.
