Addison hurried down the stairs and made a beeline for the kitchen. She met with one of the other tenants, Jordan, who also goes to Alford like her. Usually, she'd carpool with him to school.
"Is everything all right?" Jordan asked, filling his navy blue bottle up with cold water. "I thought I saw a police car outside just now..."
"Nah it's nothing," Addison smiled. "They came in for questioning."
"Oh..." Jordan said, his voice trailing off. "For what?"
"About the Superhero," Addison casually stated.
"I see..."
Addison waited for him to leave before filling her flask up with hot water and then pouring a few sachets of 3-in-1 coffee into it. She left the kitchen, shaking her flask, and met with Felicia.
"Addie, is everything okay?" Felicia asked, concerned. "Why were the police here?"
"Well, I happen to be the key witness of a Superhero sighting a few days ago," Addison gave her a tired smile. "They were just here to ask a few questions."
Felicia nodded. "What exactly happened?"
Addison knew she could trust her. Felicia wasn't really the type to gossip around.
"The guy walked into the convenience store I worked at and bought a few things," Addison shrugged. "Didn't see much of his face, he was wearing a mask and a hood."
Felicia nodded. "Our town must be blessed to have someone like him. Hey, next time you see him, tell him I said thanks. He saved my son's life once."
Addison nodded with a smile. She walked past her and went outside to see Jordan waiting for her in his car.
"Thanks for waiting for me," Addison said, getting into the blue sedan. "I think I owe you one."
"Come on, helping me with the assignment last week was good enough," Jordan smiled. "Anyway, you wanna stop by for breakfast or anything?"
"Sure," Addison shrugged. "How 'bout we get something the at McRonalds in our campus itself?"
"That sounds good," Jordan said. "And it's in our college itself."
So he drove to their college, and parked the car. They got out together and went towards the fast food restaurant within their campus.
Despite the restaurant being in the campus the whole time, this was the first time Addison got to eat the special breakfast sold there. Usually she'd just grab a bun the night before, and eat it on the way. This is the first time she actually had a full breakfast.
"Why was the police at our place anyway?" Jordan suddenly asked while they ate. "I mean... who did they question?"
Addison bit her lip. "Me... the Superhero guy walked into the shop I worked at. He just slept for an hour or so, ate, then left. And I happen to be the key witness..."
"Gosh, that sucks," Jordan said, shaking his head. "But then again, that's so cool! You got to see the guy so close? Hey, did you ask for an autograph? Do you know what he looks like? Is he even a he?"
"No, I didn't ask for his autograph," Addison laughed. "I didn't even know it was him, until he disappeared into a white light. I thought he was gonna rob me or something. And yeah, he's definitely a he. He was quite tall too... around your height, maybe."
Jordan ran a hand through his strawberry blond hair. "A girl might be this tall too, ya know."
"I know, but it wasn't a girl, I swear," Addison said, frowning. "His grunts didn't sound feminine. It was definitely a guy."
Jordan nodded thoughtfully. "Did you see his face?"
"Not even a bit. He wore a mask, but I didn't even get a glimpse of what that looked like either..."
"Wow, the guy really is trying to lay low, isn't he?"
"Yeah... I don't blame him though. The police are after him, saying they want him to work with them."
"I don't think they're planning to arrest him. After all, he didn't hurt anyone. All he did was teleport the bad guys directly to the police station, and transported the victims away to safety."
"My point exactly!" Addison agreed. "I swear, if those policemen are planning to arrest him..."
"What are you gonna do?"
"I don't know. But it's not right for them to arrest him. All he did was good. So I guess... they really are planning to work with him..."
"Hopefully," Jordan took a sip of his coffee. "I'm rooting for this guy."
"Yeah, same."
They finished their breakfast and went over to their first class, which was maths. Addison always groaned, wondering who's idea it was to put Mathematics of all subjects on the first period of the day. It's not like Addison didn't like maths, but she wasn't exactly a morning person.Addison entered the shop a little earlier than usual and saw Jeff arguing with yet another customer.
"Why isn't this free?" A man demanded. "I bought so much stuff, and I get nothing for free?! Last time I bought two for the price off one!"
"The promotion's over, sir," Jeff tiredly said. "It's no longer available for that price. If you want two of it, you need to pay for two, not one."
The man begrudgingly paid for it, muttering curses all the while. He grabbed the plastic bag from the counter rather roughly, and stomped out of the shop.
"Seriously, what's with these weirdos?!" Jeff complained, irritated. "By the way, hi Addie."
"Hey," Addison chuckled, going towards the readymade food section. "By the way, did the police come to your house?"
"Wait what?!" Jeff repeated in surprise. "Why?"
"They came to mine, to question about the Superhero fella," Addison frowned, grabbing a pack of curry noodles.
"They wanna arrest that guy?" Jeff asked, his eyes wide with surprise. "B-But why? I mean... the guy didn't do anything wrong besides save the people of our town!"
"Nah, they aren't planning to arrest him."
"Then? Why are they looking for him?"
"Apparently, they want him to work with them."
"Oh..." Jeff relaxed. He chuckled and scratched his headful of jet black locks. "Well, I guess that makes sense. But then again, do you think that dude would actually agree? I mean... he doesn't seem to be the sociable type, judging by how you describe him."
"That's the thing," Addison frowned, setting the timer on the microwave. "He didn't even look at me, despite wearing a mask. The guy didn't want me to see him at all!"
Jeff nodded, sitting down on his stool, leaning forward on the counter. "It's all so... surreal. When on earth did Superheros exist?! They were all seen as fictional, and yet we have one right here, in our town."
"When I first found out, it felt like I was living in a conspiracy theory," Addison snorted, watching her food spin around in the microwave. "And then it happened to me. Me!"
"At least you got to see the guy so close," Jeff chuckled. "Twice!"
"Three times," Addison corrected. "Saw him rescue a cat yesterday while I was in the bus."
"See!" Jeff scowled. "And here I am, never seen him even once."
"Don't worry, all ya gotta do is get yourself chased by a mob of gangsters, or in any form of life threatening trouble in general. The guy would save you."
"That's a small price to pay, I guess..." Jeff chuckled, watching Addison sit down at the table to eat her noodles. "Anyway, that's your lunch?"
"Yeah..." Addison said, taking a plastic fork from the countertop behind her. "Came in a little early today. Normally I'd drop by one of the restaurants in my campus."
"I have a question. How many restaurants are there in Alford? I passed it the other day, and there was a whole block whose ground floor was occupied by nothing besides fast food restaurants. How?!"
"It's the HQ for fast food chains or something," Addison shrugged. "That building? That's the office building for those fast food chains."
"Fascinating..." Jeff nodded. "So they decided to expand their business by fattening your college mates. And you."
"Are you saying I'm fat?" Addison said in shock.
"No I mean... a bunch of fast food restaurants in a college. In your college at that."
"I don't eat that everyday," Addison forked some noodles into her mouth, frowning. "It's been ages since I ate there!"
Another big fat lie. She literally had her breakfast in one of those restaurants only that morning.
"Yeah sure sure..." Jeff smirked. "Anyway, eat quickly, your shift is almost here."
"Oh come on, there's like fifteen minutes more," Addison mumbled, her mouth full. "I still have ample time."
"Apple time?"
"Ample time."
"Stop talking with your mouth full, Dietitian."
Addison grunted and continued eating.
