Addison yawned as she went down the stairs. It was Sunday and she slept in a little later than usual. She had three hours left before work and the sleep was still around her eyes. The only breakfast she managed to grab was a long chug of full cream milk which she got the night before. It was more of a drink than a meal.
The first thing she spotted was Giuseppe and Jake standing together at the foot of the stairs, eagerly watching as something unfolded in the living room. Addison went over to join them in watching the drama, and to find out what it was.
"What's up?" Addison asked as she neared them.
The two men motioned for her to be quiet and continued to watch.
Addison turned to the living room to see Felicia talking to a red-haired woman over some tea and cookies.
"Who's that?" Addison asked in a low voice.
"Jordan's mom," Jake informed. "She and Mom became friends because of us."
"Is everything okay? I hope the drama on her end isn't that big," Addison said.
"Don't know, she just came," Giuseppe said. "Any idea where's Giordano?"
"He isn't up yet?" Addison said in surprise.
Jake shook his head. "His car is not here, he's out. He must've left hours ago."
"Where?" Addison asked, confused.
"To work, maybe," Giuseppe shrugged.
"Sir, it's Sunday," Addison pointed out. "Why would he go to work that early when he doesn't even work on Sundays?"
"He doesn't work on Sundays?" Jake asked in surprise.
Addison shook her head. "He told me yesterday."
"Then where did he go?" Giuseppe wondered.
Jake frowned and took his phone out, making his way towards the kitchen since the staircase was blocked due to the small crowd gathered there. Giuseppe and Addison exchanged glances before entering the living room. Felicia smiled at them as soon as they walked over.
"This is Jordan's lecturer, Mr. Galante, and this is his classmate," Felicia introduced.
Mrs. Anderson looked at them in surprise before turning back to Felicia. "Why are they here?"
"They live here, Julie," Felicia said, smiling. "They are my tenants."
"I see," Julie raised her eyebrows as she took a sip of her tea. She placed her cup and saucer down on the coffee table. "Where's Jordan? I can see that his college faculty is here, but not him."
Addison found her very rude. She decided to leave her and made a beeline for the kitchen instead to see how Jake was doing. Giuseppe was right at her heels.
"I see why Jordan's not okay," Giuseppe remarked. "She seems like a mean person."
"I agree," Addison said.
They spotted Jake seated at the dining table, a frown on his face as he pressed his phone against his ear. The blond groaned and took it off to stare at it for a moment before pressing it back against his ear.
"Did he pick up?" Addison asked as she sat down in front of him.
Jake shook his head and looked at his phone. "No. His number is unavailable."
"Where could he have gone?" Giuseppe asked, slipping into the seat beside him. "Any idea?"
Jake shook his head again. "No... he's never done this before."
"He... he was fine yesterday, he even followed me to work," Addison said. "He even fooled around with my coworker."
"Who, Jeff?" Jake said in surprise but relaxed. "Yeah, he's fun. It's impossible to not laugh around him."
"Tell me about it," Giuseppe agreed. "He called me Addie's Lecturer the other day and even politely greeted me when I went entered."
Addison laughed as she remembered that. "Yeah. That was funny."
Jake smiled. He suddenly got an idea and started dialling on his phone again before pressing it against his ear.
"Yeah, better try calling him again," Addison said. "It may have just been a glitch."
"No, I'm not calling Jordan, I'm calling Jeff," Jake said. "After all, your shop is the closest convenience store. Who knows, maybe he stopped by to get something first."
He put the call on speaker mode so that everyone could hear Jeff's caller ringtone on the other hand. They had no clue what song it even was, but it was blasting loudly.
"Since when does he have a caller ringtone?" Addison said in surprise.
"Since always, I think," Jake shrugged. "Maybe you usually just gave him online calls."
"Maybe," Addison agreed.
"Yo!" Jeff picked up on the other end. "What's up, Jake?"
"Hey, Jeff," Jake said. "Just wanted to ask you something."
"About college or did you accidentally leave Addie behind last night? If so, she's not here."
Addison groaned. "Jeff, I'm right here."
"Oh, so it's about class, then," Jeff said. "Anyway, what is it? I'm at work now, so make it quick."
"Did Jordan come by today?" Jake asked. "He's been out since morning."
Jeff was silent for a moment before he spoke. "Yeah. Yeah, he did. He came by a few minutes after my shift started."
"Did he say anything?" Addison asked.
"Uh... he got a red bean bun and some coffee, I think it was a cappuccino, and apologised about yesterday," Jeff said. "And then he asked me about that electric cooker that I recently got. He said you didn't send him the link for it, Addie."
Addison just realised. "Oh yeah, I forgot. What else did he say?"
"Uh... bye?" Jeff said. "He said goodbye and left the shop. Is everything okay? Did something happen?"
"Nothing happened, it's just that Jordan is missing in action, while his mother is here," Jake said. "He's still out, by the way, and his mother is asking for him."
"Hoodie's mother?" Jeff said in surprise. "Darn! I wish I wasn't at work now! I'd love to see what's going on there!"
"Always searching for drama, aren't you," Addison sighed.
"What, I just wanna know what... Mrs. Jordan's Mom looks like," Jeff pointed out, sounding a little hurt. "Is that wrong?"
"No, but if this helps, Jordan takes after her," Jake said.
"Even the hair?"
"Yeah."
"What about the hoodie? Did he inherit that too?"
"Jeff," Addison groaned.
"Okay, okay," Jeff laughed. "You guys deal with whatever's going on there, I have to deal with the coffee machine here. It's acting up after Hoodie left."
They bade goodbye and hung up.
"So Jordan went to meet him first thing in the morning, then," Giuseppe said. "The meal he mentioned, sounded like breakfast."
"It does," Jake agreed. "And he also wants to get an electronic cooker."
"I forgot to send him the link," Addison said, taking her phone out. "Let's send it to him now."
"Send it to me too, I need that stuff," Giuseppe added. The two looked at him in surprise. "What, I like having good food too."
Jake turned back to Addison. "Did he reply?"
Addison shook her head as she stared at her phone. "Nope. He isn't even online."
"When was he last online?" Giuseppe asked.
"Four hours ago," Addison sighed, putting her phone down. "Should we tell his mom?"
"To make her worry?" Giuseppe groaned. "I think better not."
Jake snorted. "Oh, she anything but worries." He got up. "I'll go tell her."
They went back to the living room and saw Julie having her second or third cup of Earl Grey. Felicia got up with the teapot and made her way to the kitchen.
"Mrs. Anderson, Jordan's not picking up the phone," Jake said. "And I've tried like five times."
"Eh, he's probably just fooling around," Julie simply said.
"Mrs. Anderson, Jordan's been quite down lately, I feel like something might be wrong," Giuseppe politely said. "I can see that his classwork has faltered, just slightly, but it's obvious that there is something bothering him."
Julie frowned. "There's nothing bothering my baby. You guys are overreacting."
Addison just turned to Jake and frowned. Felicia walked in at that moment, carefully carrying the hot teapot. She looked a little annoyed with what Julie just said too.
"Julie, we aren't overreacting," Felicia said, setting the teapot down on the coffee table. "Jordan's been drinking a lot lately."
"Blame his father, it's in his blood," Julie shrugged, reaching for a cookie. "Just you see, he'll be fine."
Felicia groaned as she sat down. "Let's just wait for Jordan."
