Addison walked into the Academic Writing hall with Jordan. It was among the only classes she took with him, besides Speaking Skills.
"Did you do the assignment that Wellington gave us last week?" Jordan asked, heavily putting his backpack on the spot next to Addison. "It was so not good... I was literally blank!"
"Really?" Addison said in surprise. "I found it pretty easy."
Jordan frowned. "How you find that easy, I still don't know."
Addison simply grinned and started taking out her pencil case and notepad. She also took out her file where she had put her rather long essay. Jordan stared at her with bulging eyes as she nonchalantly flipped through pages and pages of it.
"How many pages did you even write?" Jordan asked in surprise.
"Twelve?" Addison simply stated.
Jordan fake fainted, much to her amusement.
"Is that a hand or a printer?" Jordan 'woke up' and pointed at her hand. "I can never write something that long!"
"Hey, I had my breaks," Addison shrugged. "I'd stop whenever a customer walks in."
"You did this during work?" Jordan asked in surprise.
"Well yeah," Addison grinned. "What else can I do when there's no customer?"
Jordan just frowned at her.
"Fine, I like writing, okay?" Addison admitted. "And I was bored, so I decided to finish this essay."
"I knew it," Jordan smirked. "I knew you were a nerd."
Addison rolled her eyes. "Seriously? If I were a nerd, I would do nothing but study!"
"Some nerds are nerds without effort," Jordan pointed out.
"Oh yeah?" Addison smirked. "Like you?"
"No," Jordan frowned.
Addison opened her mouth to speak, but the overhead speaker suddenly blared a distorted tune.
"All students, please head to the main hall for an important assembly," a voice said. "I repeat, all students, please head to the main hall for an important assembly. Thank you."
Jordan and Addison exchanged confused looks.
"That's a first," Addison finally said, putting her things away. "Never had this since the first day."
"I know right," Jordan packed his things and stood up. "Whatever, let's just go see what's up."
He waited for Addison to finish packing before following her out of the hall. He laughed at how big Addison's bag was.
"Why is your bag so big?" Jordan smirked. "What do you even keep in there?"
"I have my work shirt in it," Addison said. "You should see my coworker, Jeff's. His bag is bigger than this."
Jordan snorted. "Be like me. All I have is a tote."
"I'm still surprised at how you managed to fit all your stuff in there, including your Sundeer uniform," Addison chuckled. "How?"
"Sundeer doesn't really have a uniform, Addie," Jordan pointed out. "Only a dress code and apron. Even that's in the backroom."
"That explains why you're always wearing either blue or black," Addison realised. "You work in the one here in Alford, right?"
"Yeah," Jordan said. "Easier for me."
'No wonder you disappear after class,' Addison thought as she walked alongside Jordan towards the main hall.
They neared the entrance and to their surprise, a surly-looking man with a pencil moustache stood at the doorway. He seemed to look closely at each student who walked past him and entered the hall through the rimless rectangular sunglasses that he was wearing.
He looked pretty strange too, considering he kinda stood out like a sore thumb among the crowd of students. It wasn't like he was dressed weirdly, he's clothing style was tip-top. Just that his choice of colour was a little different.
He was wearing a mint green shirt with a red tie and a white blazer to match his white dress pants. He also seemed oddly Italian, especially because of his moustache and classic pompadour.
"Who's that guy?" Jordan leaned towards Addison, trying not to laugh. "Why does he look like he just came out of the circus, but still manages to look stunning at the same time?"
"I have no idea," Addison snorted. "I don't know why, but for some reason, he looks Italian."
"I think it's because of his colour scheme," Jordan snorted. "Look at that! Green, white and red!"
Addison burst into laughter, earning a glare from the man's keen eyes. Addison gulped and nodded meekly as she walked past him to enter the hall. She felt like strangling Jordan when she heard him snickering behind her. She quickly went towards an empty spot somewhere in the middle. Jordan slipped in beside her and finally let out his laugh, his face buried in his arms on the table.
"Can you stop?!" Addison scowled. "Who's that guy, anyway? He looked like he was gonna eat me!"
A strangled laugh came from Jordan as he twitched, his face still on the table. Addison couldn't stop herself from hitting his back.
"Ouch!" Jordan shouted, finally lifting his head. "That hurt."
Addison jutted out her lips and made a crooning noise. "Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt the baby."
"Seriously?" Jordan deadpanned. "Whatever, who's that guy?"
"That's my question too," Addison frowned. "Seems strict, though. You think he's a new lecturer here?"
"Maybe?" Jordan shrugged. "But he looks pretty young, though."
"Yeah..." Addison nodded, turning around in her seat to get a glimpse of the strange man at the door. "Quite young..."
The principal stepped behind the podium at the front of the hall and cleared his throat on the mic.
"Testing," the principal said, tapping the mic. "Testing, one, two three. Can you guys hear me?"
Everyone murmured a yes, earning a nod from the principal.
"Alright then, let's get into the topic," the principal said. His eyes searched around the hall and lit up when they found what they were looking for. "Mr. Galante, could you please come to the stage?"
The man at the doorway smirked and walked towards the stage, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his white blazer. All eyes were on him as he casually walked towards the podium.
The principal smiled. "Students, give a big hand for the new Dean!"
"Dean?!" Addison and Jordan exclaimed at once.
Galante took off his sunglasses, revealing his piercing blue eyes. He took the mic from the principal and spoke. "Hello students," he said in a fairly thick Italian accent. "My name is Giuseppe Galante. I am the new Dean of the Business and Communications Department."
Jordan started laughing at Addison's horror-stricken face. Mass Communication came under business communications. So... Addison would definitely be a victim of this new Galante guy.
"But I will also be teaching Academic Writing," Giuseppe continued with a smirk. "For those in the Linguistics and Mass Communication department, I will be teaching you."
It was then Addison's turn to laugh at Jordan's horror-stricken face.
"How are we gonna learn with this clown?" Jordan groaned. "As it is, I'm not good at that subject, and now we have to deal with his comical accent?!"
Addison snickered and mimicked Giuseppe's accent. "Oh, why? Don't you like his accent?"
"Stop it..." Jordan sighed.
"That's what you get for laughing at me."
"You're stuck with him too."
"At least I'm not the one who's bad at writing."
"Can we meet after school to study?"
"I have work, and so do you."
"What about tonight? We both live in the same house?"
"The answer is still no, Jordan."
"I won't take you to college anymore."
"Fine..." Addison sighed.
