Addison rushed down the stairs and made a beeline for the kitchen to fill her bottle up with coffee like she always would. She expected Jordan to be there too, sipping his cup of hot cocoa, but to her surprise, there was no one there.
"Huh..." Addison said to herself as she filled her flask with hot coffee.
She soon heard footsteps behind her, ones she recognised to be Giuseppe's, but pretended like she didn't hear.
"Eh?!" Giuseppe uttered in surprise. "Where's Giordano?"
Addison shrugged and started screwing on the lid of her flask. "Not sure. He's usually here, but he's missing in action for now."
Giuseppe frowned. "Maybe he left early, not wanting to see us or something."
Addison nodded thoughtfully. "You're right, that sounds like something he would do, especially us."
Giuseppe waited as Addison stuffed her flask into her backpack, slinging it onto her shoulders.
"You wanna carpool with me?" Giuseppe asked as soon as she was done. "As we know, Jordan's not here, and even if he is he might not let you come with him, so... you wanna come with me? It's no biggie since I literally work there and I'm the lecturer for your first subject too." He smirked just the teensiest bit. "So I can assure you that you won't be late for class."
Addison didn't know what to say. "I... uh... maybe?"
"Excellent, come on," Giuseppe turned to go, motioning for her to follow.
"Ookay... we did this once before, we can do this again," Addison muttered to herself as she went after him. "Alright!"
She followed Giuseppe to his car and got in at the front. Jake had left prior so his car wasn't there, leaving an empty space where he would usually park. Jordan's car wasn't there since Felicia stayed true to her rule of kicking the blue sedan permanently out of her garage.
Giuseppe wasted no time in pulling out of the garage, reversing into the main road. Giuseppe pressed the remote to close the garage while Addison read an e-book on her phone.
"Wait, Jordan's car is still here," Giuseppe piped up. "He didn't go to college yet?"
"Hmm?" Addison looked up from her phone.
"Jordan hasn't left for school yet," Giuseppe nodded towards the blue sedan. "Guess he must've slept in a little late."
"Oh," Addison realised. "Yeah, probably that's it. He looked... tired last night too."
"Yeah, like how he glared at Mrs. Kennedy? Sure, he was tired."
Addison snorted and put her phone away. She never really liked staring at her phone during car rides, especially if it was one in a very well-kept vintage car.
"Sir, this car... how old is it?" Addison couldn't help but ask. "It's a 1100, right?"
"1100 D from the sixties," Giuseppe proudly said. "I had it transported here from Italy, actually. Couldn't leave this behind, especially since it was my grandfather's car. He passed it down to my dad who passed it on to me. I was only honoured to inherit this. Kinda hard to keep it in mint condition but I'm trying."
"Ooo..." Addison said in awe. "It's really nice, actually. Jordan and I saw it around campus a few times but we never knew it was yours."
"So you actually recognised this car, but not me?" Giuseppe said in surprise.
"We never saw you out of your room, Mr. Galante," Addison pointed out. "Only heard thuds and bangs, but never saw you. How were we supposed to know of the car's owner?"
"I guess you're right," Giuseppe shrugged, pulling into the main road. "Anyway, wanna have breakfast together?"
Addison felt a chill run down her spine. "Buh... Breakfast?"
"Yeah, McRonalds or Pizza Land or WFC?"
"I don't mind, Sir. Whichever you please, I'm okay with it."
Giuseppe sighed. "Thing is, I don't have an idea either."
A few moments of awkward silence.
"Let's just go to McRonalds," Giuseppe finally said. "Their CafeRonalds is amazing."
"Yeah, I could use some coffee too," Addison's fingers found the warmth of her flask through the white fibres of the backpack. "Their English muffins are good too."
"Great, so it's McRonalds, then," Giuseppe chuckled.
"Okay..." Addison meekly said.
Giuseppe realise his radio wasn't on and did. It was an odd sight too, a latest-technology Bluetooth radio in a classic car. Tu by Umberto Tozzi instantly blasted through the speakers.Addison sat at a table in McRonalds, staring at her egg and bacon English muffin sandwich and glass of fresh orange juice. She looked up slightly and came face-to-face with Giuseppe, enjoying his pancakes with maple syrup and a cup of espresso without a care in the world.
"Mr. Galante, you seriously didn't have to pay for my food too," Addison squeaked out. "I have money on me too, ya know..."
"Well, what's wrong with a teacher treating a student out to a meal?" Giuseppe said after swallowing his mouthful. "My teacher, back in Italy, used to do that all the time. She would buy all of us breakfast during break-time, give us chocolates whenever she pleases, and even brought us out to AMW for a party once."
He was talking about a teacher who treated the whole class to free food, not a single student.
"But still, Sir... you didn't have to do this," Addison meekly said again. "I wouldn't have minded paying."
Galante frowned thoughtfully before giving her a smirk. "Okay, then let me put it this way. Consider this my treat to you for being my best student at Academic Writing."
"Uh... thanks?" Addison gulped.
"You're welcome," Giuseppe smirked.
Addison ate in silence, slowly chewing her English muffin burger before drinking her orange juice. She eventually finished and wasn't sure what she was supposed to do. She ended up waiting for Giuseppe to finish his pancakes and coffee since it would be a little rude, especially since he was her lecturer.
Giuseppe downed his final bit of coffee after licking his plate clean. To Addison's surprise, he got up and put whatever waste there was on the table onto the tray before making his way towards the rubbish bin in the corner. Addison felt sheepish for being the kind who would leave her table as is after she was done with her meal.
"Let's go," Giuseppe said. "I'll have to go to the office first, I'll meet you at the Academic Writing hall later."
Addison nodded and ran off as soon as he walked away.
She went straight into the bathroom and heaved a big sigh of relief before washing her hands and then entered a stall.
