The Letter

"Yeah, it's amazing,"

Everyone is familiar with the feeling of being woken up in the morning by someone banging on your door, right? Yeah, well, like most people, I hate it. I hate when people wake me up because I sleep too much. Just leave me be!

Of course, someone banging quite loudly on my door woke me up in the morning. "Ava, wake up! It's past noon!" The unpleasant, overly high pitched voice of my cousin could be heard.

"Leave me be," I groaned as I rolled over on my four-poster bed. Picking my head up, gently smashing against my cotton stuffed pillow. I am definitely not a morning person.

"No, don't tell me you forgot?" She paused for a slight second to see if I would respond, but to her dismay, I didn't. "Today is your eleventh birthday!"
My eyes shot open. How could I forget my own birthday! What's wrong with me? I sat up from my bed, pushing my green blankets onto the floor.

"I'm heading down now!" My cousin shouted back a response, but I was barely paying any mind to it. She could wait.

I dragged myself towards the full body mirror laying in the corner of my room and brushed my long, wavy, red hair into a ponytail. Throwing on black sweatpants and a white tank top, I exited my room with excitement sprawled across my face. I headed down the stairs of the Rose Mansion, and entered one of our many dining rooms.

Mister Rose was sitting at the table with my cousin Selina, who was currently stuffing her face with blueberry pancakes. She pushed her curly hair to the side, avoiding the syrup dripping from her fork.

"HeAva," Selina mumbled through her mouthful of pancake; making me gag. My face notably cringed as I saw the food being mushed in her mouth. People who chew with their mouths open disgust me... Alas, she took a few moments to finish chewing her food then continued. "Finally decided to come down and join us, eh?"

She sent me a smirk and I rolled my eyes, not bothering to answer. I rambled over to the table, pulled out my chair, then began loading my plate with the sweet diabetes I'd soon be diagnosed with.
By now, you've probably noticed the amazing mood I'm in (note the sarcasm). Well, expect this a lot. My life sucks, so there aren't many reasons to be happy. I don't think I've ever properly smiled, which is kind of depressing now that I think about it... oh well.

Mister Rose nodded curtly, acknowledging that I had joined the table. I nodded back, beginning to much down my pancakes. I didn't bother having conversations with him anymore. I've tried to get some attention, but he always pushed me off, not caring. Even to the point where I'd stay in my room for days without him noticing. Amazing parenting, am I right?

We sat in silence for the rest of breakfast until Winter, the Rose family owl arrived with the post. Winter, who was holding two letters, dropped one by Mister Rose, then one by me. I smirked, knowing exactly what my letter meant.

Placed on the center of the envelope was a stamp with the Hogwarts coat of arms.

"Selina, your father will pick you up at five this evening," Mister Rose said with his deep, chilling voice. However, Selina didn't answer. She was too busy gawking over my shoulder.

"Go on, open it," she said excitedly. I smirked, quickly opening the envelope and slipping out the letter.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorcerer, Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. Of Wizards)

Dear Miss Potter,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31st.

Be prepared to meet your brother, Harry, as Hagrid will be going with you to reach him.

Yours Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall,

Oh. My. Merlin. I completely forgot that I'd be meeting Harry today! This is... a complete disaster! You, the reader, probably thought I'd be overjoyed to meet the boy who lived or whatever, but I'm not.
I've never actually met another kid before — or my own brother, believe it or not, unless you count; of course when my parents were still alive. Yet they died before I really knew how to even walk...

I turned to Selina who had the world widest smile, her teeth glimmering, showing how perfect she truly was. "This is great! Aren't you excited? You'll be able to go live with Harry, and attend Hogwarts!" I rolled my eyes, just wanting to be alone.

"Yeah, it's amazing," I muttered, not even bothering to make eye contact with her. But to my dismay, this girl doesn't understand sarcasm.

"I know, right?" She jumped off her seat and grabbed my hand. "Come on, you have so much packing to do!"

I groaned as Selina yanked me away from the table and upwards towards my room.

Three long hours later, I've finished packing up the last of my belongings. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to be leaving the Rose Mansion, but I hate packing. Wow, I really do hate a lot of things... oh well.

I chuckle to myself as I lug my suitcase down the staircase, dropping it off at the front entrance.
To my luck, Selinas father picked her up around thirty minutes ago, so now I have time to myself. I sigh, deciding to spend the rest of my time here in the gardens. I exit the Rose Mansion, walk down the stairs, and head towards the gardens.

I enter the gardens, walking amongst the beautifully crafted stone pathway. Filling up the garden are an assortment of trees, including my favorite, the Cherry Blossom.

The ground is also covered in an arrangement of flowers including: Violets, Buttercups, Roses, and my all time favorite; the Tiger Lillies. Their bright colors is gorgeous, along with their mesmerizing scent. My mothers name was also Lily, and these flowers make me feel oddly connected with her.

I take a seat in a patch of Tiger Lillies and pluck one of the flowers, placing it in my hair. Apparently I look like her; with my red hair, emerald green eyes, and freckles. I wonder if Harry looks like her... maybe we're identical twins...

Although, I sure hope we're not. That would be rather odd. Maybe we're fraternal twins. I sure hope so...

The sound of a moter bike snaps me from my thoughts. I turn around to see a flying motorcycle landing in our driveway. On board is an extremely tall man, and a small boy who looks to be around my age.

I smirked. Hagrid must be here along with my brother! Well, I guess it's time to start my new life... Hogwarts, here I come!
