"I haven't seen her all day,"

Draco's POV
"Have you seen Ava anywhere?" Leah questioned once I'd exited the boys dormitories that morning. I stretched my arms, groggily cracking my knuckles.

"I just woke up," I mumbled. "Wouldn't even had time to see her." Leah didn't seem too worried so I didn't dwell on the fact Ava wasn't here. She shrugged and sat up from the couches.

"Maybe she went to breakfast a tad early. She does have a habit of not sleeping so well..."

Leah and I chatted a bit more before Blaise came down, then we traveled to the Great Hall. The halls seemed extra chilly this morning, an odd shiver running down my spine. When we entered the cafeteria, an eerie silence floated amongst all the students, and when someone did speak, it was a quick whisper to the person adjacent to them.

It felt as if the Gryffindors were paying extra attention to us as well, which was an unwelcoming feeling.

"Is it just me or does something feel off," Blaise said as we approached the Slytherin table for breakfast. "Everyone seems more quiet than usual."

It was a bit strange. Normally students were quieter in the morning, but most were having small conversations with their friends. Today, everyone seemed anxious — or disturbed. I didn't let the mood faze me though, for the pancakes were practically screaming my name.

"Who cares mate, I'm starving." I piled three pancakes onto my plate, earning a disgusted glare from Leah, and an unimpressed one from Blaise.

"Oh, you think that's a lot?" Blaise stacked five pancakes on his plate and bet me ten galleons he could eat more.

For the next twenty minutes, Blaise and I shoved pancakes down our throats, attempting to eat more than the other. We were about to compare numbers when Leah interrupted us.

"Guys, I hate to be a buzzkill, but breakfast is over and there's still no sight of Ava." She seemed to be growing more anxious by the second, but I shrugged her off.

"She's probably out spying on her brother — haven't seem him around either," Blaise said. He glanced over at the Gryffindor table and raised his brows. "Matter a fact, none of the trio is there. Just the Weasley's younger sister... she looks pretty pissed though."

I nodded. He was right; Ava was probably gathering details from the trio without their consent. It seemed like something she would do.

"I dunno," Leah drawled, picking at her fingertips. "Normally she would tell us... I haven't seen her since last night."

Blaise and I shrugged. "I'm sure she's fine. Plus, I have transfiguration together next period. I'll ask her where she's been."

Leah sighed, but dropped the subject.

I was unbothered by Ava's whereabouts until I entered transfiguration and still didn't see her. Class had officially started five minutes ago, and I was still sitting alone in the front row. Normally our first few minutes were spent teasing each other, but with no one to bother, I resorted to tapping my foot anxiously against the floor.

Ava never skipped class, she was too worried about her grades to even think about it...

As the day progressed, I tried to mask my growing nerves by her absence, but it was quickly becoming impossible. Now that I thought about it, she did seem on edge yesterday after the whole snake incident — maybe she was in the library and lost track of time... yeah, that was probably what happened.
