"What did the oaf do now?"
Ava's POV
McGonagall ushered all students into the Great Hall, sending everyone to their designated house. Me and my friends excitedly ran towards the Slytherin table, making sure to sit closest to the sorting hat. Crabbe, Goyle, and another boy with light brown curly hair, light skin, and brown eyes sat close by. The hall filled with an excited chatter as everyone funneled in.
"I wonder how many new Slytherins we'll get," said Leah with a smile. "Hopefully people will be nice to them."
Draco scoffed. "No ones ever nice to Slytherins."
As saddening as it was, he was correct. We were the most disrespected house just because some dark wizards were in Slytherin.
"People need to stop being so biased!" I added. "We've done nothing wrong! Plus, I'd say we're pretty likable." I crossed my arms and sent my friends a cocky smirk. Leah giggled, but Blaise and Draco just looked down and slowly shook their heads.
"You're something alright," Draco said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and playfully slapped his head. He furrowed his eyebrows and pushed me back.
"Avey don't slap me if you don't wanna be pushed back!"
I smirked and shoved him harder, almost sending him off his seat. The two of us soon began a shoving war, pushing each other like children. Blaise and Leah just sat and watched.
"You both need to grow up," said Leah as she chuckled at our childish behavior. I was about to respond when Dumbledore's booming voice caught our attention.
"Welcome everyone," said Dumbledore as he rose from his throne-like chair. "To another year at Hogwarts; and welcome first-years to your first year attending Hogwarts!"
The first years all shared nervous glances as they inspected the hall. I paid no mind to any of the first years except for two, who caught my gaze. The first girl had flaming red hair that matched Ron's perfectly. I assumed her to be his younger sister, Ginny. The other girl who stood beside Ginny had pale skin, long Platinum blonde hair, and blue eyes. I raised an eyebrow and nudged Draco.
"Hey Draco," I whispered as Dumbledore kept talking. "Do you know that girl?" I asked, pointing to the Platinum-blonde first year. He followed my gaze to the girl and nodded.
"Yeah," he replied nonchalantly. "She's a distant cousin. Luna Lovegood."
"Huh," I replied. "Never heard of her."
He scowled.
"That's because her family is a bunch of filthy blood traitors. Plus, they're all off their rockers, loopy! Especially her father..."
I glared at him but focused my attention back onto the sorting ceremony which had just started.
"Colin Creevy!" McGonagall shouted and a skittish-looking first year with short dirty blonde hair stepped out of the crowd. He quickly wobbled his way to the stool and the sorting hat was placed on his head.
There were a few moments of silence until the sorting hat shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"
The table next to me erupted in cheers while most of the Slytherin's groaned. I looked over at the Gryffindor table and saw Hermione sitting with a few other Gryffindors known as, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, and Neville Longbottom. I quickly noticed that Harry still hadn't arrived.
"You alright?" Leah asked once she noticed me staring at the Gryffindors.
"Uh, yeah," I replied, focusing back on her. "I just noticed that Harry still isn't here..."
"He's not?" Leah sounded perplexed as she furrowed her brows and searched the Gryffindor crowd. "Do you know where he is?"
I shrugged and laughed.
"It's a long story," I said and she nodded.
Suddenly the Slytherin table erupted into cheers and I looked over to see a girl with long black hair running over to the table with a frown. She took a seat close to me and my friends but didn't say anything. She just stared down at the plate in front of her.
Draco scoffed. "Please," he groaned. "People shouldn't be ashamed of being sorted into Slytherin," he said. "People should be praising Merlin! After all, we are the best house."
A few more students were sorted until another familiar name was shouted.
"Luna Lovegood!" McGonagall shouted and the girl with platinum blonde hair happily skipped up to the stool.
There were a few moments of silence; then the hat shouted "RAVENCLAW,"
The Ravenclaw table erupted in cheers as Luna happily trotted to the table. "Well at least she didn't get Gryffindor," Draco said with a shrug. "Ravenclaw is the second-best house."
I scoffed. "All houses are equal,"
Draco just laughed. "No. Slytherin is the best; Ravenclaw is alright; Gryffindor is the worst, and Hufflepuff is almost nonexistent."
After all the first years were sat and sorted, Dumbledore continued on with his yearly speech. It was something about the third-floor corridor still being forbidden, the Forbidden Forest being out of bounds, and a list of prohibited items that rest outside of Filch's office.
While I was enjoying some mashed potatoes, I saw Filch rush into the Great Hall, quickly retrieving McGonagall and Dumbledore. I glanced over at them curiously as the four of them rushed out of the hall.
"Wonder what that was about," Leah said as if she read my mind.
"Who knows," I said as I finished eating my meal.
Soon enough, Dumbledore returned to the Great Hall. I paid no mind until I realized he was staring directly at me. Draco and Blaise were engulfed in their own conversation so they didn't notice.
Leah groaned. "What did you do now?" She paused and looked towards Dumbledore. "We only just got here!"
"I have no clue, but maybe it has something to do with Harry... Oh Merlin, they better not have gotten me into trouble!"
Draco and Blaise turned their attention to me once I shouted Harry's name. Draco scoffed.
"What did the oaf do now?"
I sighed and stood from my seat.
"Long story, I'll tell you all later."
