"That's all his fault."
It had been a few weeks since the last Quidditch match. A few days ago, Harry overheard a conversation between Snape and Quirrell, and was now convinced that Quirrell was working for Snape. He dragged me up to the third floor almost daily to make sure Fluffy's intense growling could be heard.
Ron hadn't spoken a word to me since our quarrel, but trust me, I wasn't complaining. Hermione still talked to me but not like before.
Time had been flying by extremely fast and before I knew it; easter break had come and gone. Starting on Monday, normal school would resume. The Easter Holidays weren't as exciting as I thought they would be, for they were filled with studying for the end of year exams. Today though, something else was on my mind. Ron rarely ever acknowledged me, but Harry spoke to me almost daily. Now, he'd been extremely distant and hadn't talked to me all week... and today was no different.
They weren't at breakfast or lunch, and it was already halfway through and they still hadn't shown up. I was convinced he was hiding something from me, but I didn't dare approach him. If he didn't want to talk to me — then so be it.
I couldn't care less.
As Leah and I walked through the corridors towards our common room, I heard someone whispering. "Did you hear that?" I asked, stopping my stride and turning around.
I had already informed her of Ron's behavior and she'd turned completely against the golden trio. Including my brother.
Leah furrowed her brows. "Hear what?"
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a glimpse of a shoe. When I turned back around, it was gone. I grabbed Leah's hand and began dragging her towards the exit of Hogwarts. I've got him now... that was no ordinary shoe, it was Harry's! He'd been sneaking out again, and I bet everything that it was to Hagrid's.
"Ava, where are we going?" Leah followed behind, questioning me. "It's past curfew, we can't leave now!" Through her complaint, she still followed.
I shushed my friend, not wanting anyone to hear us. But, it was already too late; someone had already heard, I just didn't know.
I led Leah through Hogwarts doors, down the stone pathway, and towards Hagrid's hut.
"While we were walking towards the common room, I heard whispers. Then when I turned around, I saw someone's foot. It was Harry's foot, and he was under the invisibility cloak!""And how do you know they're out here?"
"Well, where else would they be headed other than Hagrid's hut?"
Leah made an O shape with her mouth, finally understanding why we're heading there. The both of us hid behind a tree while we watched the golden trio remove their cloak. Harry knocked upon Hagrids door, and after a few seconds, Hagrid allowed them in.
"I knew it!" I whisper-yelled. Once they were safely inside, Leah and I quickly ran under one of Hagrid's cracked windows in order to peek inside. I slightly lifted my head so I was able to see inside of the hut.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were speaking with Hagrid when suddenly the kettle under the fire began to shake.
Right when they took the kettle off the fire, I heard rustling from behind me. The both of us turned around and were face to face with Draco.
Leah seemed surprised but I was livid. "Why the bloody hell are you here?" I seethed. "This isn't any of your damn business."
"You snuck out after hours — now move out of the way!" Draco pushed Leah and I to the side so he could get a view of what was happening. I groaned, but scootched next to him so I could see as well.
Leah gasped. "Merlin, is that a —"
"A dragon!" Draco finished.
"But isn't that illegal?" I asked. I may have been angry with Harry, but I didn't want him to be expelled.
Leah nodded and we shared a worried glance while Draco smirked. Suddenly, Hagrid turned around and saw the three of us peering through the windows. My breath hit an abrupt stop and before I could do anything, Draco darted back towards Hogwarts no doubt about to tell a professor.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione bursted out of Hagrid's hut and ran towards me and Leah. "Listen Ava, I'm so sorry I should've told you —"
Ron interrupted him. "Harry, don't apologize! They're Slytherins! I tried giving them a chance, but you saw how your sister treated us at the Quidditch match!"
"You provoked us!" I yelled angrily.
Leah sat silently behind me, staring at the soles of her shoes.
"Look Harry, it doesn't matter. I forgive you but I don't forgive Ron. He's an arsehole."
Ron groaned and sent me a deathly glare. I couldn't care less.
-
"I don't understand," Harry said as the five of us entered the castle. "Why is it bad that Malfoy knows?" I glanced away from Harry and Saw a foul-faced McGonagall and a smirking Draco standing in front of us.
"Because it's bad," I replied. By now the other four had caught sight of McGonagall and Draco. We gulped.
-
"Nothing. And I mean nothing...gives a student the right to be out of bed after hours." McGonagall had led us into her office, and we were currently standing around her desk while she yelled. Malfoy was standing a few feet to my left, smirking. "Fifty points will be taken from each of you."
Harry gasped. "Fifty?"
"That is correct Mr. Potter. That means I've deducted 150 from both Gryffindor and Slytherin."
I smirked. At least Draco was being punished as well... Draco on the other hand, he wasn't so thrilled. Served him right...
"Excuse me professor, perhaps I heard you wrong. Did you say 150 points from Slytherin?"
"Yes indeed, Mr. Malfoy. You were out after hours as well."
Draco frowned but didn't argue. He wanted no more points taken from Slytherin. "The five of you will also serve detention Monday night so you can reflect upon your actions."
I sighed, and with that, the five of us were sent off to our common rooms. "If you would've kept that mouth of yours shut, we wouldn't be in this situation," I said through gritted teeth.
"It's not my fault you snuck out!"
"But it's your fault that we got caught!"
"Will you two stop bickering? No wonder you are incapable of actually being friends and getting along." Leah said with a slight smirk.
I scoffed as Leah muttered the password to our common room.
"That's all his fault," I muttered. "Not mine..."
