"I think Female Potter is very capable of making her own decisions,"
Exiting the train, we were immediately joined by Harry and Ron. "Harry, meet Sam and Leah," I said, introducing my friends and brother. Harry smiled and shook their hands.
"Nice to meet you; this is Ron."
The five of us chatted for about a minute until we were interrupted by Hagrids booming voice.
"Firs' years, over here!" Hagrid shouted.
All the first years followed Hagrid to the ledge of a gigantic lake filled with wooden boats, each tied to a pole so they wouldn't float away. Leah, Sam and I all climbed into a boat and untied the rope along with the other students.
"This is beautiful," I said, in awe of the view.
It was the first time I'd ever laid eyes on Hogwarts; apart from pictures, yet they did no justice. The lights from the castle above reflected on the lake, giving it a golden glow. Windows were scattered across, each candle lit. Some parts even appeared to be underwater! One can't describe how stunning it was.
"Yeah, it really is," Leah said a few moments later, her auburn hair glowing along with the water. Sam on the other hand, was to fascinated by the lake below us to notice the castle. Her eyes had yet to leave all the fish swimming below.
I see you've got a thing for animals?" I presumed, slightly amused. Personally, I'm not a fan of lakes or oceans. I never adored the feeling of fish rubbing against my legs.
Leah nodded, a smile etched onto her face. "More specifically aquatic plants and animals. It's fascinating how they survive underwater, still breathing oxygen!"
I shrugged.
"Yes, from afar it is rather interesting, but I'd rather not investigate," Sam said making the three of us laugh.
The boats eventually reached shore and the three of us clambered back onto solid ground, entering the castle through the bottom enterance.
We were led into a stone hall with to grand staircases. At the top of the staircases stood a lady dressed in emerald green robes. She had fair skin, cat-like facial features, and a black pointed hat.
"Hello first years," the woman said and at once everyone fell silent. "I am Professor McGonagall, and as you all know, you will now be sorted into your houses."
For the next few minutes, all the students clung to the Professors words as she explained each and every house. When she finished her speech, she opened the large wooden doors to the Great Hall and led the excited first years through.
"This is brilliant!" Harry said with a smile that passed his eyes. I smiled seeing how happy he was. I liked this; smiling. It made me feel as if weights were being lifted off my chest. It made me feel — carefree. "Do you think we'll get Gryffindor —?"
An all to cold and familiar voice interrupted him. I scoffed at the sight of David Malfoy. That was his name — right? I think so.
"So it's true then," he drawled, approaching us with two boys towering over him. "What they're saying on the train! Harry and Ava Potter have come to Hogwarts."
"Yeah it's true, now leave us alone," I snapped. Merlin, this boy was getting on my last nerve. Stupid David...
Leahs eyes widened and Sam began laughing. I blinked. "Oh, did I say that out loud?"
By Davids expression, I indeed had. His face was a deep red and he looked as if he would erupt with lava.
"My name is Draco! You pathetic blood traitor," he spat. I swore I felt some of his saliva land on me.
"Ew," I said, disgusted. "I think your saliva landed on me!"
David — or apparently Draco, ignored me and turned towards Harry. "I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy," he said, causing me and Ron to snigger. Honestly, his name was kind of funny. David suited him better. He sent a glare our way causing Ron to shut up. I coughed, at an attempt to cover my laughing.
"Think my name's funny, do you?" Malfoy sneered, scowling at Ron. He inspected Ron head to toe and smirked. "Red hair — hand me down clothes... you must be a Weasley," he sneered once more.
"You'll soon find out that some wizard ig families are better then others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort," he said, strongly implying that Ron's family was the wrong sort; whatever that meant. He placed his hand out for Harry to shake, a smirk still laced across his pale face. He really thinks he's all that, huh?"
I hate being so quick to judge people, yet this boy was giving me barely anything to work with. I came to the conclusion that there simply wasn't anything to like about him.
Please don't shake his hand, I thought to myself. Harry turned to me, his eyebrows raised. Merlin, I thought, did I say that out loud? I looked towards my brother who very faintly shook his head no.
I was momentarily stunned about how he heard me. Odd. Harry then turned back towards Malfoy.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks," he said, refusing to shake his hand.
Malfoy scowled then turned towards me, outstretching his hand. "Well?" He asked while raising an eyebrow. But, before I could respond, Harry spoke for me.
"She will not be shaking your hand," Harry said coldly, to which Malfoy's smirk grew.
"I think female Potter is very capeable of making her own decisions," he said, before turning back towards me, arm still outstretched.
Ha. He thought I'd actually shake his hand, didn't he? Is he really that thick? Once again, before I could respond, McGonagall appeared right behind Malfoy, making him back up in suprise. "We'll finish this later Potter," he said before him and his two followers scurried away.
I chuckled, turning towards Sam and Leah who'd silently watched the scene unwrap. "How thick can one get?" I laughed.
Sam shrugged with a smirk. "Honestly, I could see you and Malfoy being friends," she said.
Leah nodded. "I've met him before. Our parents are good friends. He's not that horrid once you get to know him."
I shrugged. "I mean, I guess."
