"That ring looks new,"
Draco's POV
I entered the Great Hall with Crabbe, Goyle and Blaise, who immediately began looking for Ava and Leah. Once he'd spotted Leah, he grabbed my arm and dragged me towards her. She was sitting alone."Where's Ava?" I asked, seeing as she wasn't at the Slytherin table. Leah shrugged, nodding towards the Gryffindor table where Ava happily sat with her brother and the mudblood Granger.
"She ditched us to go sit with her brother," she said. "I love that girl, but I wish she sat with us more often."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "He always ruins everything," I grumbled.
As I took a seat beside Blaise, who'd fallen into conversation with Leah, I noticed a familiar gray owl swooping towards the Gryffindor table. I watched as the owl landed on Ava's shoulder and dropped an envelope onto her lap.
She never received mail.
After reading the letter, she pulled a small box from the envelope. She eyed it cautiously, for the moment she opened it, something felt off. I felt uneasy, yet didn't know why.
She stared at the contents of the box which seemed to be—a ring? I'd seen that ring before... for it was quite beautiful with its silver designs and green gem.
I'd seen it in my fathers office. He'd had it in a glass shelf along with a tattered book! How odd though, for he never allowed me near any of those objects. Why was he giving it to Ava?
I shook my head and focused back on Ava, who seemed to have zoned out while staring at the ring. Suddenly, she stood up and darted out of the Great Hall.
She seemed off; for why would she just get up and leave? "I have to go," I muttered to Blaise and Leah while I pushed away my plate of eggs. Before they could answer, I'd already followed Ava out of the hall. Curiosity had gotten the better of me...
Ava's POV
I was heading back towards the Slytherin common room when my vision began to blur. I went to lean against the corridors walls but I was taken aback when I just fell onto cement floors. I blinked a few times and quickly noticed that I wasn't even in Hogwarts anymore! I was in an enclosed room with white walls and a cement floor.I blinked a few more times, confused on how I got here, yet to dazed to really understand. That same warm feeling had flooded my body, and in some distorted way, I felt content here. When I finally collected my senses, I stood up and noticed that in the middle of the room was an ancient wooden mirror.
I slowly approached the mirror and quirked my head. My reflection looked different yet again. Staring into the mirror, I noticed that instead of my emerald green eyes, they were milky white. My skin was pale, and my freckles were barely noticeable.
I looked... sick. Something was wrong with my reflection. I waved, and the girl in the mirror waved back, but her fingers looked as if they'd shined with the brightest polish. Her fingers were glowing.
As if I was never there, the next time I blinked, I faded back into reality.
"Ava," I heard someone whisper, but it still seemed so far off. "Ava!" They said a bit louder, but not loud enough. I wanted to open my eyes, but it felt like they were glued shut. The comfort had been stripped from me once more and the world felt dark... "Ava, wake up!!"
"AVA!"
My eyes shot open, and I realized that I was now in the Slytherin common room. I immediately sat up from the couch, out of breath and dripping in sweat. I could only imagine how pathetic I looked.
Standing around me were Leah, Blaise, and Draco, who all looked very concerned with my state. "How did I get here?" I asked once I had caught my breath. I felt as if my body just ran a ten mile long race.
"Draco and Blaise dragged you back here—literally," She said. That would've been hilarious if I hadn't fallen unconscious. "What happened to you? Draco said he found you passed out in the middle of the corridor!"
"I don't know," I lied. I didn't want to tell them about what happened, for I barely understood what happened myself. I placed my right hand onto my left and felt a ring. Glancing down at my hand, I saw the ring placed onto my finger.
That was odd since I couldn't recall putting it on...
"That ring looks new," Blaise piped up, nodding towards the ring on my finger. I know this sounds crazy, but right now, I feel like my life is a book or movie. So much is happening, that it almost seems unreal!
"About the ring," Draco said before I could comment, "My father had an identical one in his office..."
I raised an eyebrow. Last time I checked, the Rose and Malfoy families were quite close. Maybe Draco's father had wanted me to have it... but why?
An ear-splitting pain suddenly appeared in my forehead and I bent over, rubbing my head. "Agh," I said as images of myself in the mirror flashed in front of me.
"Are you alright?" Draco asked slowly, furrowing his brows.
After the pain subsided, I sat upright and nodded. "Er—yeah, I am. I dunno where that came from..."
"You should go see Madame Pomfrey," Leah pressed. "She may know what happened!"
I quickly shook my head, not wanting help. I felt as if this was something I'd have to find out alone. Madame Pomfrey would be of no assistance. "No, Leah. I'm fine. Really."
Leah sighed but nodded, not wanting to argue. "You're right, you're probably fine..." She didn't sound very convinced.
After I apologized to everyone for making them miss their next class, Draco and I headed to Astronomy. Since we had Astronomy with the Ravenclaws, I took this opportunity to sit with Sam, who questioned my sudden disappearance during breakfast. I shrugged her off, saying I had to use the lavatory.
By the end of the day, nothing else had happened, and I was beginning to wonder if that was all in my head... Maybe I was severely dehydrated and just ended up having a really really odd dream...
