"Don't worry mate, your secret is safe with me,"
That night Leah and I exited our dorms and snuck out of the common room, but to our luck, everyone was well asleep. Leah took a few deep breaths and glanced at me for reassurance, but truth is, I was just as nervous. I had this odd feeling swirling inside of me that something would go wrong.
We tiptoed around each corridor to make sure we didn't wake any sleeping portraits. When we entered the third floor, Ron, Harry and Hermione were all staring at the door in shock. As I approached them, I could distinctly hear the beautiful melody of a harp.
Hermione turned her body towards me. "Snape or Quirrell have already beaten us. They enchanted the Harp so music would keep playing!" The five of us looked at each other, then opened the door and indeed saw Fluffy sound asleep while a harp played beautiful tones of music. We all shared a look, then entered the room one by one. Fluffy's loud snores filled my ears and his breath flooded my nostrils.
"Blegh," I said as I took another breath. "His breath stinks!" Leah cringed as she walked past a particularly loud snore and got splashed in saliva.
"Alright," Harry started, "we need to move his paw off the trap door, then me and Ava will jump down first. If it's safe, you can follow."
Ron looked at Harry as if he was crazy. "And how are we going to move his paw? I bet it weighs over forty pounds!" Hermione and I rolled our eyes.
"There's five of us, Ronald."
"Oh yeah..."
I hesitated as I approached the dog's paw, still a little cautious about him waking up. When he was still sound asleep, I let out a sigh of relief and bent down to take a hold of his paw. Each of us grabbed a part and heaved it up, then moved it to the side of the trap door, so we'd be able to grab the latch. I looked over at Harry who nodded, then opened the trap door. The drop looked long, steep, and dark.
My heart was beating faster than a Niffler could run, and my face felt hot, but I knew it had to be done. I was about to jump through the door when the sweet sounds of melodies slowly faded from my mind. If possible, my heart came to a pulsating stop. If the harp wasn't playing...then that meant Fluffy would be waking u —
"Ewwww," Ron said after a huge glob of saliva dropped onto his shoulder. The five of us slowly turned our heads up and saw all three of Fluffy's heads staring at us with their teeth bared.
"Jump!" I shouted, and threw myself down the trap door, soon followed by Harry, Ron, Hermione and Leah. I braced myself for hitting a hard surface, but that never came. I landed on top of something extremely squishy.
"Well, shit," Leah said once she landed. "Thought I'd die for a moment."
"Yeah," Ron agreed. "Lucky these vines broke our fall."
My face went pale. He said vines...
"Wait," Hermione and I said in unison. Harry, Ron and Leah all looked at me; confused, but I knew what type of vines these were — they were Devil's snare. I was about to say something else when I began to feel the vines wrap around my body.
"OH MY MERLIN IT'S DEVIL'S SNARE!" Yelled Leah. Harry and Ron screamed, but Hermione and I stayed calm.
"Stop moving!" I Shouted. If they kept moving, the vines would kill them.
"You need to relax!" Hermione added.
"If you keep moving, it will only kill you faster!"
"Kill us faster?" Ron screached. "Oh now I can relax!"
