"You are much more ambitious than your brother, more cunning... yes..."
Walking into the Great Hall, I glanced around and immediately caught eyes with Selina.
"Woohoo, AVA!" She shouted, making me internally cringe. Honestly, I don't know what I did in order for her to think I like her... oh well. She was sitting at a long table covered in red and gold coloring. If I'm correct, she's in Gryffindor. The tables adjacent to Gryffindor were covered in green and silver garments. I'm pretty sure that's Slytherin.
On the other side of the hall were two more tables, one's garments being yellow and black; the other being blue and bronze. Those must be Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but I didn't know which was which.
Reaching the front of he hall, Professor McGonagall placed a wooden stool on the ground, and an old tattered hat on top. I wonder what that hat is for...
"I hope to get Gryffindor," Harry whispered beside me. I nodded. Even though Ravenclaw didn't sound that bad either. In front of us was another long table, the length of the hall, covered by Professors. In the middle was an older man with silver and grey beard that reached his knees. His pale skin glowed in the moonlight and he wore a pair of half moon glasses. I presumed him to be the Headmaster; Albus Dumbledore.
McGonagall stepped forwards, now holding a long piece of parchment. "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted," she said. "Abbot, Hannah!" A timid blonde girl emerged from the crowd and took a seat on the stool, the Professor placing the hat upon her head.
"Hufflepuff!" The hat shouted, making the yellow and black adorned table erupt in cheers. All the houses seem to be quite interesting.
A few more went like this until I eventually heard a familiar name.
"Granger, Hermione!" The Professor shouted. The bushy haired girl from earlier approached the hat, taking deep breaths and whispering to herself. She seemed quite nervous, but to be fair, everyone was; including me. Not that I was nervous about getting sorted into a bad house, but I really wanted Gryffindor like my parents.
"I'm telling you, that one's mental!" Ron whisper-yelled. I rolled my eyes while Leah glared and Sam chuckled.
"Gryffindor!" The hat shouted, and I could hear Ron groaning over the Gryffindor cheers. A few more students were sorted until another familiar voice was called.
"Malfoy, Draco!" Malfoy confidentially walked up to the stool and took a seat, sending me a smirk. I raised my brows, showing him that I really didn't care.
Before the hat was even placed upon his head, it shouted, "Slytherin!" He hopped off the stool and quickly headed towards the Slytherin table, high-giving a few older Slytherins.
"I told you," said Harry. "Slytherin's no good! We know that for a fact now that Malfoy's in it!"
I ignored him as they continued with the sorting. I refused to be prejudiced towards a house just because an eleven year-old git was sorted there.
Ron was sorted next and got Gryffindor, followed by Justin Flinch-Fletchley who got Hufflepuff.
"Moonshine, Leah!" Leah nervously pushed her way through the crowd of first years and took a seat on top of the stool. Sam and I shot her a thumbs up and she smiled.
"Slytherin!" The hat shouted, and the Slytherin table erupted in cheers. They must've been proud to receive yet another Pureblood to their ranks. I smiled and clapped along receiving a glare from Harry.
"Myers, Samantha!" Sam hesitated, so I pushed her forwards, giving her a reassuring smile.
A few moments went by, yet eventually the hat shouted, "Ravenclaw!"
I clapped along with the Ravenclaws, happy for my friend. She smiled victoriously and skipped over to join her fellow housemates.
Harry, still upset about me clapping for Slytherin, refused to clap. "Why did you clap before?" Harry asked. "Leah got Slytherin!"
"Harry I don't care, she got the house she wanted, and she's kind!" I snapped and Harry rolled his eyes but kept silent.
"Potter, Harry!" As soon as Harry's name left the Professors mouth, the hall broke into a whisper.
"You mean the Harry Potter?" I heard someone say, making me roll my eyes. Bloody hell, people could be annoying. Harry nervously approached the stool and took a seat. He seemed to be whispering something to the hat, but I couldn't quite make it out.
After a few more moments the hat shouted, "Gryffindor!" I saw Harry visibly relax as he joined his newfound friend at the Gryffindor table. Okay, so Harry got Gryffindor which is good! Now, all I need to do is also get Gryffindor.
"Potter, Ava!" Harry shot me a smile and I shrugged, warily approaching the stool. Just like for Harry, the hall broke into more whispers, but I ignored them. Once the hat was placed upon my head, I began to hear a voice. Except, no one else could hear it. It was in my mind.
"Hmmm. Not like your brother, no," the hat said. "You are much more ambitious than your brother, more cunning...yes..." I started tappping my foot, wanting this to be over. "I see you're no Hufflepuff, you're not patient enough." I immediately stopped tapping my foot, now very aware of my actions. "You're stronger than your brotherm there's no doubt about that!" I smirked. Ha. Take that Harry! "Yes, and you know how to get what you want."
"Please Gryffindor," I whispered, hoping he would take my thoughts into consideration.
"Gryffindor? Why Gryffindor? To be like your brother? No, you're no follower, and you're no Gryffindor... Maybe Ravenclaw, but there's one that tops them all..."
The hat paused for a moment, before shouting, "Slytherin!"
The Slytherin table erupted into cheers, some of them shouting, "We got a Potter!" I looked towards Harry hoping he'd be looking back, but instead, he was in a heated conversation with Ron.
