I didn't realise it's been 3 months since I last updated on this...

I spent Christmas morning texting Naomi.

I sat in the corner of the sofa that I shared with my parents. Alec sat on the other sofa and Mia and Eli sat on the floor.

Presents had been opened and now it was just pure cosy family time, except from me texting Naomi constantly, smiling down at my phone.

Dad had his arm resting on the back of the sofa, mum sitting close to him and leaning against him.

Alec and Eli were talking, a tone of coldness to each of their voices. Eli was still angry about Alec overdosing and me having to find him, while Alec was angry at Eli for being angry with him.

Mia was the one trying to soothe the tension but it wasn't really working.

I chuckled quietly at a message Naomi sent, but then I received a message from Adriana.

'I miss you. Care to meet up with me?'

Biting down on my lip, I quickly replied to her, then got up.

"You alright, darling?" Mum asked and I turned towards her and dad.

"Yes." I nodded. "I just... would it be okay if I went and saw Adriana?"

Mum and dad both smiled and dad nodded at me.

"Of course. Greet her from us and wish her a happy Christmas." He said, and I simply smiled, hurrying out of the living room.

I hurried up into my room to change out of my pyjamas, and then I checked my phone.

Adriana and I agreed to meet up at the playground where we used to sit with Theo and when I showed up, she was already there, sitting on one of the swings.

"Hey." I said, taking a seat on the swing next to her.

Adriana forced a smile at me, then muttered a quiet 'hey.'

Neither of us said anything for a while. We just sat there, swinging back and forth a little while staring off into the distance.

"Are you... I mean—" I sighed. "...are you okay?"

I looked at Adriana to see her pushed, moving her eyes to stare at the ground instead.

"Is it crazy of me to miss him?" She asked before looking at me. "Because I really fucking do. I miss him and all of those soft moments where he really seemed like he cared."

"Oh Adri..." I sighed. "Listen, he doesn't deserve you."

"I know." She breathed. "But I just... I can't stop going over everything my hand. It's Theo. How did he turn out that way? Everything was perfect. We were all friends and then we started dating and it was fine at first. I just don't understand. Theo has always been a sweetheart."

I shrugged.

"He had us all fooled." I muttered, pulling into my pocket to find my pack of cigarettes. "Oh, by the way... my parents say hi and wishes you a happy Christmas."

Adriana laughed softly, then leaned her head back to look up at the sky.

"Your parents have always treated me nice." She said. "In fact, your entire family has."

"That's because you're a part of our family." I said. "When you were Theo's girlfriend but also when you were just my best friend."

Adriana looked at me, and this time she was generally smiling at me.

"Happy Christmas, Bree."

I repaid the smile, offering her a cigarette but she shook her head.

"I promised my dad to quit."

"Okay..." I nodded. "...well, happy Christmas. You don't mind me smoking one?"

"Of course not."

I placed the cigarette between my lips, lighting it before stuffing my lighter into my pocket.

"How's uh... you and Naomi?" Adriana asked me. "Did you finally forget about Hannah and move on?"

I chuckled, blushing at the mention of Naomi.

"She likes me." I said. "Naomi, I mean... and I like her too. She's sweet... she's really pretty too."

Laughing, Adriana moved closer and gently shoved me.

"You are blushing."

I chuckled again as I placed my cigarette between my lips and inhaled.

"When can I meet her?" She asked. "I haven't met her officially but I'd like to. She's your—"

"She's not my girlfriend." I hurried to say. "We haven't put a label on it."

"Do you want to put a label on it?" She asked me, and I shrugged.

Honestly, I did. I wanted to be with Naomi officially, to be her girlfriend and not just the girl she was screwing.

We had already admitted our feelings towards one another so maybe becoming a couple was the next step.

My phone vibrated in my trousers and when I pulled it out, I smiled down at my screen, seeing Naomi's name as well as her text.

"Is that her?" Adriana asked with excitement. "What did she say?"

I shrugged.

"Nothing. It's uh..." I bit down on my lip, shaking my head as I took another puff of my cigarette.

It was a rather dirty text that I probably should keep to myself.

Pocketing my phone, I looked at Adriana.

"Is your dad working this Christmas?" I asked, and she nodded in response.

"He tried to get off so we could spend it together this year, but he didn't succeed." She said. "He put his present in my room but he wasn't there when I woke up. It's fine though. I know work's important."

I sighed, resting my head against the chain holding up the swing.

"Do you want to come back to the house with me?" I asked. "I've got a present for you and I'm sure mum and dad will be happy to see you."

Adriana thought about it for a moment, then nodded.

"Alright." She said. "I'd like that."

"Okay." I nodded. "I'll just finish my cigarette, then we can leave."

We sat there for a moment, both of us swinging quietly on the swings. Then it was starting to snow.

"A white Christmas..." Adriana muttered.

"Unless it'll melt again before the day ends." I said.

"I hope it won't." She said. "Do you remember when we were younger and we'd play around in the snow?"

"Yeah." I smiled. "Our snowball fight against my parents when we were twelve."

"I was twelve." Adriana said. "You had just turned thirteen... and now you're— you're eighteen and we didn't celebrate it together."

"Oh, it's alright." I assured her. "We can still celebrate your eighteenth birthday."

Adriana smiled.

"I can't wait."
