Naomi was coming over.

Was I nervous?

Yes.

Why?

No idea.

I was home alone which was the reason I had invited her over.

Mum and dad were at work. The last day at work before Christmas and Alec no longer lived here so when my parents weren't around, I was all alone.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I brushed my hair back with my fingers.

I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a grey hoodie which was honestly just the first clothes I saw when I woke up this morning.

My dad had woken me up by throwing water at me and I was still mad at him.

Mum had laughed like she does every time my dad jokes around and I was just upset that I had to clean it up like the other times dad had thrown water on me.

I swear he's trying to drown me.

The sound of the doorbell rang throughout the house and I almost tripped over my own feet on my way out of the room.

I hurried downstairs, dragging my hand along the railing until I got to the end, then I slowed down and made my way to the door at a normal pace.

The second I opened the door, I heard the sound of crunching and I looked at Naomi to see her stand there with a bag of crisps, eating out of it.

"So... I got hungry on my way here." She said. "I bought a bag of crisps. I know you like these so I hope it's okay."

Chuckling, I stepped aside and let her come in.

"Why didn't you appatate?" I asked, closing the door behind her.

"I like to walk." She said and handed me the bag of crisps. "Can you hold this quickly? You can have some."

I ate some of the crisps while she pulled off her shoes and placed them neatly, then hung her jacket on the wall.

"It's seriously freezing out." She said as she turned towards me, her lips forming a wide smile when her eyes landed on my face. "You look cute."

"Cute?" I asked. "I am no such thing."

She laughed, taking a step towards me. She ran a hand along my jaw and brought me in for a quick kiss that honestly surprised me.

We rarely ever kissed unless it led to sex. We were friends with benefits, not a couple, though I'd lie if I said I didn't enjoy it.

Naomi then grabbed the bag of crisps from my hands and went to eat some of them when there was a thump from upstairs.

Both of our attention turned to the ceiling before we slowly looked at each other.

"Didn't you say—"

"I'm home alone." I nodded slowly and a smirk crept over her face.

"Let's go check it out."

"Have you ever watched a horror film?" I asked. "You don't follow the noise, Naomi. You just simply don't!"

"Oh c'mon!" She laughed. "Ghosts can't harm us even if they wanted to."

After a moment of looking at her begging eyes, I gave in, nodding.

"Fine." I grabbed the bag of crisps and placed it on the side table in the foyer before I grabbed Naomi's hand and led her up the stairs.

"Which bedroom is yours?" She asked, pointing between the doors and I nodded towards my door before I looked around, trying to figure out where the sound came from. "Can I go see it?"
