"Dad!"

The door slammed shut behind me and I pushed off my shoes before I marched down the hallway towards my dads office.

I opened the door and six sets of eyes landed on me.

My dad stood by his desk, his hands pushed into the pockets of his trousers, mum sat on the sofa in the room and Alec sat in one of the chairs.

"I have news."

"What is it, Bina?" Dad asked.

"Alright, so... I sat outside, right? And I was looking through Instagram and then I saw a post from Lily Collins—"

"Who's Lily Collins?" Alec asked.

"I think she's an actress." Mum informed him.

"Well, she got married back in September." I said. "And that made me realise that I want to get married one day,  but dad... you are not going to walk me down the aisle."

Dad looked over at mum for a moment before he looked at me again.

"No matter if I'm marrying a guy or a girl." I said. "But obviously I won't be marrying a guy 'cos I'm a lesbian."

"You don't want me to walk you down the aisle?"

"I don't want anyone to." I said. "And do you know why? Because I am not some object to be given away."

"...okay."

"And why on earth are fathers supposed to give their daughters away at the alter? Why can't the mums give away their sons?" I asked.

"Because that's how it's been for centuries, dumbass." Alec said and I flipped him off.

"Bree, don't flip off your brother." Mum sighed.

"She's just got a lot of build up anger that she feels like she needs to take out on me." Alec said, causing me to turn and look at him.

"So... when are you gonna admit that your friends jumped you and caused you to overdose?"

His expression dropped.

"At least I'm not covering for Eli and his drug problems."

"What?" Mum and dad asked in unison while mum got to her feet.

"At least I don't use other peoples sexualities against them."

"At least I don't hook up with someone while being in love with someone else."

"How do you even know that?!"

"That's enough!" Mum yelled, making the room go quiet. "Sabrina... out!"

With a groan, I spun around and marched out of the room, my mum following me. She closed the door behind her and with my arms folded over my chest, I turned back around to face her.

"What was that?" She asked.

"What was what? I was talking to dad and Alec interrupted."

"Just like you interrupted us." She said. "Your brother was just starting to open up to us and tell us what really happened that day he overdosed."

"Oh..."

"Yeah, oh." Mum let out a sigh. "Is Eli still smoking weed?"

I quickly shook my head.

"He's clean."

"Good." She nodded. "If I catch you lying to me, Sabrina..."

"I'm not lying." I hurried to say. "He's not smoking it anymore."
