"Amanda. Your ex?!" Jealousy has already taken over Aiah.
"Yes."
"Can you explain to me why you are with your ex right now?" Aiah wants to scream but she is trying to remain calm.
"Baby, it's a long story and now isn't really the most convenient time, can I just tell you later?" Khae started driving again.
"Why? Where are you?"
"I'm driving, baby. I'm giving her a ride home. I'll call you later. Bye." Khae ended the call.
"What the—" Aiah wanted to cuss when Khae dropped the call. The jealousy she was feeling worsened.
"I see, you're in a relationship..." It was difficult for Amanda to say those words but she wanted to hear it directly from Khae.
"Yes, I am."
"I hope you don't mind my asking but is it with a guy or —
"With a girl" Said Khae, bluntly.
Amanda was taken aback. She could not describe how she was feeling. Different kinds of emotions started to arise within her. They are all mixed up and she could not find the right words to say. Hence, she fell into deep, long silence.
Khae cleared her throat. She could not take the deafening silence anymore. She decided to break it.
"What about you? Are you in a relationship?"
"No."
"No? B-but why? What kept you busy all along?"
Amanda has been asking herself the same question. Even she does not really know why. All she knows is that, she is not interested in meeting new people and she can't imagine herself with somebody else.
"I was writing you a letter... waiting and hoping every single day to get a reply... That's what kept me busy." Said Amanda after a while. She smiled bitterly.
"Amanda—
"Sorry, I did not mean to sound bitter or something. But yeah, what I said is true. I waited everyday. And to be honest, the reason why I'm here is to seek for your forgiveness. And hopefully, to win you back." Amanda could not believe she was able to say the last sentence to Khae. It's now or never! That's how you do it, Mandy. You gotta be brave! She thought to herself.
Khae suddenly turned to Amanda when she heard her. She wanted to pull over again but then she realized they were very close to Amanda's house so she kept driving. In no time, they have reached their destination.
"Thank you for bringing me home. I know it was something you shouldn't have done but still you did. I appreciate it. I know you hate me but—"
"Amanda, I don't hate you... Well, not anymore." Khae was surprised with her own words. Really, Khae? You don't hate her anymore?
"Y-you don't?" Amanda's face lit up after hearing Khae.
"Yeah. And I wanna say sorry for shutting you out of my life. I should have at least read one of your messages. I feel bad that I did not have the courage to do that. I was too scared. Since you left me that day, something in me changed. Actually, no. It changed my whole life. I've spent years thinking about what could have beens, you know. What could have happened if I have loved you harder? If I cared more? All along I was thinking I failed you...I failed to let you feel how much you mean to me. When you left, I was thinking that I was not good enough. That I was not worthy of your love and attention. That I did not deserve you. That it was just right that you left me. What could have happened if I did not give up easily and actually made an effort to find out why you had to leave?"
