Chapter 42------------------------------

"come on Alex wake up they're home"

"ehhh" Alex whined from underneath the warm covers.

"get up before they come up here and see you looking like this."

"ugh ok ok fine"

Throwing back the covers Alex got to her feet and swayed putting a hand to her head.

"Oooh never drinking again"

"sure. Now come on they're coming in the front door." Jordan said rushing her downstairs.

They made it to the bottom of the stairs right as their parents were hanging their coats up.

"well hello girls. Sorry we weren't here to greet you. How was the flight?" her mother asked in her proper

Texas accent .

Alex giggled while Kate elbowed her in the side.

"it was fine."

At Kate's voice their fathers head snapped in their direction.

"well hello Katelyn. Nice of you to make an appearance" her father sneered.

" Jack" their mother said softly. Not in defense for Kate but mostly because she didn't want to deal with the arguing.

"yea Jack. Back off" Alex said stepping protectively in front of her sister.

"watch your tone Alexandria" Jack warned in a low voice.

"It's Alex" she barked.

"that's not what we named you." her mother chimed in.

"are we really going to argue about her name?" Kate asked

Both their parents turned to look at her.

Her mother sighed and broke the silence.

" I suppose not lets go into the kitchen I have supper in the fridge"

They all walked into the kitchen in an awkward silence. Kate kept looking down at the floor. You could tell she was nervous about the talk coming up.

"Sooo" Alex dragged out when her and Kate had situated themselves on the stools at the bar.

Her father raised an eyebrow while her mother continued bustling around the kitchen.

Alex took a deep breath.

"Kate is coming back home with me"

Both her parents froze and turned to glare at her.

"she most certainly is not" her father boomed.

"yes dad she is" Alex said thrusting her chin in the air.

"and how do you plan to support the two of you?" her mother asked with a mocking expression on her face.

"I have more than enough money set back in my savings account. I've saved every penny I've earned since I was seven!"

"and I can get a job" Kate offered softly.

"you're not going" her father yelled and Alex seen Kate's lip tremble. That's when Alex snapped.

"you do not yell at her like that!"

Alex said jumping from her spot and standing toe to toe with her father.

"and just who do you think you're talking to young lady?! Don't forget who raised you!"

"you sure as hell didn't!"

A loud snap filled the room as pain exploded in Alex's left cheek. She was at least a foot away from her originally standing spot on the floor. Her father had hit her. It wasn't the first time but that did not full the pain or her anger.

Part of her anger was the fact her mother was cowering on the corner refusing to help either of her children.

Alex calming got to her feet brushing her legs off. Kate's face was red with anger as she gripped the bar so tight her knuckles were turning white.

"you slimy rotten excuse for a man that will be the last time you lay your hands on me. And it'll be the last time you see either one of us. Kate go get your bags we're going home."

Kate looked at Alex but she just nodded and scurried upstairs. When Alex turned to leave her father spoke.

"if you leave with my daughter I'll have to police after you before you even reach Texas airport."

Alex laughed a humorless laugh as she took out her cellphone from her front pocket and snapped a picture of her already bruising face.

"and if you do that I'll have them turn right around and come pick you up for assault. Got it pops?"

She could tell he was holding on to barely contained rage as she turned to go upstairs to get her bag she looked at her mother.

"and if you don't get away from him you'll never see is again either"

Kate was already at the bottom of the stairs clutching their suitcases with her tearstained face watching Alex carefully.

Alex walked over and smoothed a hand through her sisters hair.

"lets go home Kate"
