Chapter 20 ( I'm broken)

Chapter 20-------------------------------Luke seen a look of sheer horror in Alex's eyes when she turned back around.

" Alex, what's wrong love."

"c- can we go please"

He looked to the front of the restaurant to see a tall pretty redhead with the guy Luke recognized as the guy Alex had been fighting with last week at the cafeteria. He was staring at Alex's back while the redhead pouted from lack of attention no doubt.

"we can leave come on lass"

She quickly scrambled out of her chair and stepped behind him obviously trying to shield herself from the boys eyes.

"Lexi?"

He heard her gasp and mumble a curse before she froze and turned to face him.

For the first time Luke got a good look at this person Alex obviously didn't like.

He was young but probably a year older than Alex. He had dark brown hair and light brown eyes. The scruff on his face gave him an older appearance but the look in his eyes screamed adolescent. The redhead beside him was shooting daggers in Alex's direction. If looks could kill they'd be scooping Alex off the floor.

"Lee" Alex replied. You could hear the barely contained civility in her voice.

"this is Lexi?" the redhead asked with a smug look.

"Sara don't" lee said in a quiet voice.

"this is the girl you dated for two whole years just to get in her pants?"

Lee glared at the redhead 'Sara' who was smiling like she was having the time of her life.

Luke looked at Alex who looked frozen in place.

"come on lass lets go"

Alex nodded quickly when Luke grabbed her arm and put her into the passenger seat of her car.

"keys" he said quietly and she dropped them into his waiting hand.

He started to car and quickly pulled out onto the road.

"are you alright darlin'" he asked looking over at her

Alex nodded her head yes and folded herself into a ball laying her head on her knees.

Luke thought hostile Alex was bad but he would take hostile Alex over sad Alex any day. He kept sending Alex worried glances. It absolutely broke his heart when he saw her shoulders start to shake. He didn't know what to do. This girl.. His student.. Had wormed her way into his heart in just a short week without him even realizing. He reached over and laid a hand on her shoulder which caused her to jump and shift away. That little movement tore him to pieces and made him want to turn around and go beat That Lee guy for whatever it was he did to her. When they pulled into the school he shut off the car and sat there quietly. She wasnt making a sound, the only give away that she was crying was her shoulders shaking. After about five minuets she raised her head and looked over at him.

His breath caught in his throat at how beautiful she was. Her eyes were blood shot and teary. Her nose red and her cheeks had tiny red blotches all over them. But he had never seen anyone more gorgeous. His thoughts hit him out of nowhere. His first thought was to open the car door and run as fast as he could. But when she turned those watery green eyes on him he was glued to his seat.

Alex let out a shaky laugh and wiped her eyes with her fingertips.

" I'm sorry, I usually don't cry. " she said frowning.

"everyone cries lass. Would you like to talk about it?"

She bit her lip and looked away.

"you heard what she said. Im the girl he dated for two years 'just to get in my pants'" she laughed without humor.

"then it's his loss. He lost a great girl."

"No" she said shaking her head.

"I was a great girl before we started dating... Now I'm just broken"

"you're heart broken?"

" No, I'm broken as a person. He completely messed me up. There's no fixing me" she said turning to look at him.

He reached out and tucked a stray hair behind her ear.

"there is nothing wrong with you"

"everything is wrong with m-"

Alex was interrupted with Luke leaning forward and capturing her lips with his.-----------------------------------
