Chapter 78

In the cab on the way home Luke kept Alex cradled in his lap. She didn't seem to mind since she kept her eyes closed the entire ride. She kept running her fingers over her engagement ring and sighing contently. Kate and Collin kept looking at her with worried expressions but Luke just kept caressing her hair.

"is she ok?" he heard Collin whisper.

"she will be.... Eventually" Kate whispered back.

When they pulled up to the house Luke payed the cab and carried alex into the house. He left Kate and Collin to themselves and carried Alex upstairs to her room.

As he laid her on the bed she looked up at him.

"are you mad at me?" she whispered

"no lass" he stated simply pulling the covers over her.

"do you still want to marry me?" she asked looking down at her ring.

"of course." he murmured as he stripped down and crawled In beside her.

He pulled her to him and sighed as she snuggled closer.

"Luke?"

"hmm?"

"I don't want to stay here"

"what do you mean love?"

"I love you. You know I do. But I think I'm always going to have that reaction to Lee when I see him. Yes I may get better at hiding it. I may even smile and act like everything is fine. But inside I'm always going to be shaking, nauseous and close to tears."

"so what are you saying?" he whispered kissing her forehead.

"after graduation you said you wanted to go Back to visit Ireland?"

"yes"

"what if we just stayed?"

The next morning Alex woke up late. She checked the clock to find it was

11:30 AM.

She rolled over to find Luke's side of the bed empty. She stayed still and could hear pots and pans banging in the kitchen down stairs.

"you're up" Kate said from the doorway.

"mmm yeah" Alex said stretching and rubbing her eyes.

"how are you feeling?" Kate asked cautiously.

"last night was stupid I know that."

"no.. It wasn't stupid. Music is important to you. It's one way for you to get your feelings out."

Alex shrugged and then remember her and Luke's conversation before bed.

"oh Kate there is something I need to talk to you about."

Kate raised her eyebrows in question.

Alex rolled the words around in her head trying to think of the right way to approach the topic.

"just spit it out" Kate huffed

"Iwannamovetoireland" she said quickly.

"what?" Kate asked leaning closer.

"I... Wanna move to Ireland?" it came out as more of a question

"so you need me to find a new place to stay" Kate stated looking down at her wringing hands.

"what? No. I want you to come with me"

Her head shot up and she looked at Alex in awe.

"come with you?! You and Luke?"

"and Collin hopefully" Alex laughed.

Kate launches herself at her big sister and wrapped her in a hug.

"you're the best! And of course! I would love too! EEEPPP" she squealed

Alex looked over her sisters shoulder to see Luke grinning in the doorway.

"what happened?" Collin said coming up beside him.

"we're going home lad. And our new family is coming with us"
