. He didn't realize why he had woken up until he heard the sound again. Alex was whimpering. He raised up on his elbow and looked down at her. She had her eyes screwed tightly shut and her feet were shifting under the covers. Her eyes were moving quickly beneath her eyelids. Making it obvious she was having a nightmare.

"no" she groaned quietly

"Alex... Wake up love"

"please don't" she said quietly

"Alex" he whispered as he stroked his hand over her face.

At the contact of his hand her eyelids softened and she leaned into his touch.

"you're alright lass" he said pulling her toward him. She sighed contently still sound asleep and snuggled into his side.

He continued to stroke his hand down her cheek while she slept. He knew he'd have to get up soon but he didn't want to wake her. He was sure she'd tossed and turned all night. He was considering writing her a pass and excusing her from all classes today just to rest. Thinking back on the events of last night Luke's heart squeezed in his chest. He didn't know why he had thought it so important for her to talk to Lee. But he had thought it would help her. Last night when she'd came in the house she had looked so tortured . Part of him was terrified she was going to leave him. He kind of still was. But he knew she needed to get everything out. She needed answers to her questions. He couldn't be angry at her for still having feelings for Lee. But it didn't mean he was happy about. He would never admit it but he was down right terrified of losing this brunette spitfire snoring softly in his arms. She thought she was an immature teenager but he knew her better. What immature teenager would take in another person? Sure it was her sister but not a lot of people want the responsibility of another human life so early on. But Alex had.. Without even batting an eyelash. She had stood toe to toe with her insane father to protect her family and had ended up in the hospital. She had pushed everyone's needs ahead of hers these past couple months. No she was not an immature teenager... She was a strong woman very wise beyond her years. He glanced over at his jeans laying on the floor and seen the outline of the square box in his pocket. He hadnt told Alex what his mother had given him before they'd left yet. But he would when the time was right.........

He just didn't know when that would be.
