Chapter 79

Chapter 79------------------------------------------------------------------------

"ms. Rogers?"

Alex turned to the voice that was almost identical to Luke's. Her heart froze when she realized it was Luke's uncle the dean.

"oh, mr. McKinney how are you?"

"may I have word with you after your next class" he said ignoring her question

"um... Yes sir" Alex said with a stiff nod.

Mr. McKinney returned her nod as he turned to walk away.

"I'll see you in my office."

Alex hurried up the side walk toward Luke's classroom. It was to early for his last class to be dismissed yet but she could wait. She took the stairs two at a time until she reached his classroom door.

As soon as students started filing out of the room she shot inside. Luke's head snapped up when he heard the lock click into place.

"Alex? Everything okay?"

"your uncle stopped me on campus, he wants to talk to me after your class"

Luke's gorgeous tanned face seemed to pale a little at that.

"about what?"

Alex gave him a dry look.

"you think I would've hightailed I'd up here of I knew that?"

Luke walked over and placed his hands on her hips.

"it could just be something about your grades lass. Or graduation."

Alex shrugged her shoulders and leaned closer to him.

"it is next month"

"time has flown this semester" Alex sighed.

"I'm glad it has. I'm ready for graduation to be over so I can take my family back home." he whispered giving her an Eskimo kiss.

Alex gave a content sigh and closed her eyes.

Luke kissed her mouth gently and groaned when she nibbled his lower lip.

"no no no" he said pulling away.

Alex poked her lip out in a pout.

"sit" he said trying to sound stern.

Alex obediently went to her seat as Luke unlocked the door. Within five minutes students started piling in.

As always it was strictly professional during class. Alex finished up her take home work as Luke finishes problems on the board. Surprisingly Alex had gotten great at algebra. She was close to top of her class now.

"I have an announcement to make class"

Alex raised her head at that.

"after this semester is over I will be going back to ireland."

The class erupted in questions and noise.

"why?"

"what happened"

"don't you like it here?"

Alex couldn't tell who said what but Luke quieted the class down.

"of course I love it here. If I hadn't came here I would've never been this happy" he remarked catching her eye for a moment.

"it's just I have met some one and I'm now engaged"

Feminine sighs of disappointment filled the room.

Alex grinned to herself as she unconsciously fiddled with her ring.

" I thought I would just inform you all that it was a pleasure knowing you. I'm very proud of you all"

A few moments later the class let out. Alex didn't spend time doodling after class. She didn't want to be late for her talk with the dean. She nodded to Luke And quickly made her way to the building at the front of campus. She Smiled at the small redheaded secretary who let her into the deans office.

"ah ms. Rogers" he said as a greeting when she walked in.

"please have a seat"

Alex gratefully relieved her shaky legs.

"how was your weekend ms Rogers"

Alex felt her stomach twist uneasily. This wasn't about her grades or graduation.

"it was fine"

"splendid. Well allow me to tell you about my Saturday night. I was at one of my favorite pubs... Er well excuse me.. Bars and do you know what I saw?"

Alex swallowed hard. She didn't know but she could guess.

"I saw you do a very impressive kareoke act... And then I seen my nephew carry you off stage"

Alex felt her breath coming in short gasps. Her chest was tightening. A cold sweat breaking out over her skin. A panic attack was rising.

She rubbed her left hand over her chest.

"and I do believe that was me sisters ring when Tom proposed to her. Now the only reason you would have that ring is if Luke gave it to you. Did he lass?"

Alex couldn't work Any words past her tightening throat. She jerked her left hand out of his sight and bent forward in her chair attempting to take big calming breaths.

There was commotion in the next room but Alex ignored it. Trying to focus more on her heart beat. When the deans office door flung open Alex's head snapped up. Luke was standing above her with a worried expression.

"Alex? Love calm down" he said kneeling next to her and caressing her face.

She shook her head violently and tried to bat his hands away.

"he.....knows...." she managed to huff out.

"I don't care baby you've gotta calm down"

"so it is true then?" his uncle said from behind him.

"we will talk about this when I know my fiancé is alright" Luke growled

After a few moments Alex's head cleared and her breathing became easier.

"you alright love?" Luke murmured

Alex nodded and her eyes flickered to the dean.

Luke kissed the top of Alex's head and turned on his uncle.

"what was the meaning of this uncle Jerry? If you had any questions about me or my personal life you should Have came to me!"

"I was about to call you Lucas. I didn't mean to scare the lass"

"of course you were gonna scare her uncle! We've been keeping a secrets for months and a person of authority tells her they know"

"ah yes well I see where that would be an issue. But never the less.... You're engaged to a student Lucas?"

"I'm engaged to the love of my life uncle"

" you know I just want you to be happy Lucas. I just don't want you risking your Career"

"and Alex makes me happy" Luke said smiling.

"and after graduation we are moving back to Ireland. We just have to stick it out another month."

Jerry threw his hands in the air in a surrendering motion.

"in that case whens the wedding?"
