Y/n soon arrived back in Monstadt and began her search for the traveling buddies she'd left behind. Starting from where she'd left them she began searching the territory, eventually finding them back near the town as the sun began to set. Paimon saw her approaching and called out excitedly, "Oh, there she is!" she pointed towards the h/c-ette excitedly.
Y/n felt a bit embarrassed for her actions that morning, "Uh, hi..." She mumbled awkwardly avoiding eye contact. Should I apologize? Was it bad enough for me to apologize? She wondered. Her pride told her that she didn't do anything wrong, whereas her common-sense gave her the feeling she'd been acting like a child throwing a fit.
Aether looked relieved that she'd returned safely, "You shouldn't have gone off on your own like that..." He scolded her tiredly.
Paimon looked back to aether taking a moment to realize she agreed with Aether. Looking back to Y/n she gave an enthusiastic nod, "Yeah, do you know how worried Paimon was? What if you had gotten hurt, or worse, died!" She pointed out with furrowed brows as she scolded Y/n.
Feeling guilty she nodded along, not bothering to defend herself. "Sorry guys, I'll try not to run off like that again. And Uhm, sorry about the childish outburst this morning too," she apologized sincerely, being smacked upside the head by both Paimon and Aether's complaints.
Childe listened casually before deciding to lighten the mood as they went into Monstadt, "You should be grateful I didn't give Aether a hard time while you were off fighting the Oceanid or whatever you'd said," He teased. "I could've taken over Monstadt easily," he joked.
Y/n shot him a look, "I really don't think that would've been a good idea." She muttered. She had a feeling Venti would've gotten Dvalin to defend his nation, and from there shit would've hit the fan. "Plus, you said you're still weakened from our last battle, so I doubt you'd be able to take down a dragon." She added factually.
Childe gave an unsure shrug, still feeling confident he could at least give the dragon a run for its money. While Y/n and Childe debated whether or not he'd be able to take on Stormterror Aether checked in with Katheryne to see if there was anything else he'd need to do before retiring for the evening.
Y/n hadn't been paying attention to what Aether was talking about until she suddenly heard Paimon's outburst, "Does that stranger's face look anything like his?!" She exclaimed pointing towards Aether with a look of hope.
Looking over she asked, "Wait, what?" She looked between Aether and Katheryne in confusion.
Katheryne shook her head, "Hmm? Like the Honorary Knight's? No, they couldn't look more different. This stranger is a very tall man, and even has an eyepatch..." she explained, giving Y/n enough context clues.
"Ohh, you're talking about Dainsleif," she commented in recognition of the description. Katheryne gave.
Paimon looked to Y/n thinking she'd been acquainted, "Oh, are they some sort of relative of Kaeya's?" she asked curiously, noting the mention of an eye patch.
Y/n shrugged vaguely, "...who knows," she muttered half-heartedly, "Anyways, why'd you bring Dainslut up?" she asked casually.
Katheryne looked toward her and explained, "Aether was looking for another possible companion to help aid him on his journey,"
Y/n shot Aether a look, "Oh, so we're not good enough for ya?" she huffed in mock offense. "But yeah, I could take you to him," she muttered, already having a vague idea of where he'd probably be both from prior knowledge and seeing him the previous evening.
Aether nodded, "How do you seem to at least know of everyone...?" He murmured in confusion as Y/n began leading them back to Diluc's Tavern.
Y/n playfully responded, "That's for me to know, and you to never find out~" as she walked into the building holding the door open for the rest of the group. And also Avi might kill me. She added to herself, that even if he wasn't there she didn't want to test anything, plus it was the least she could do in return for his generally consistent companionship.
