As 'promised' Y/n was woken up earlier than usual looking outside to the pitch black sky. "I think this is the day I decide to die." She muttered looking out at the somewhat cloudy sky. "Not even the moon wants to be awake at this hour." She continued to grumble. Though in reality, it was just a new moon.
"Just get going," the slime said, not bothering to open his eyes.
Y/n glared at him saltily as she continued to whine, "Easy for you to say, Mr. sleeps in every day." in annoyance.
He ignored her, as she just let out an over-dramatic sigh before getting ready for the long day ahead. As per usual she started out the day with essential conditioning. Afterward, Xiao had her systematically hunt down all the hilichurls, and slimes, and apprehend any treasure hoarders. By the time she got done clearing out the entirety of the plains, the sun had risen and travelers began to move.
Walking back to the inn she looked up at the sky, noticing how dark the clouds were. "Looks like it's gonna rain." She muttered under her breath. It was then she got an idea, "Oh, maybe I can convince Xiao to let me off early!" She said excitedly, realizing that sparring in the rain was a fairly miserable experience.
Once back at the Inn Y/n essentially inhaled her food before checking back in with Xiao. "Yo, buddy, pal, so I have a proposition for you," She called as she quickly approached him.
Xiao looked to her slightly curious about what weird combination of words was about to come out of her mouth next. "What is it?" He asked.
Y/n clapped her hands together right before saying, "It's supposed to rain today, I'm sure you can smell it in the air with your magical adepti nose. So, I was thinking... maybe, just maybe, we could skip sparring today?" She suggested hopefully, mustering the best puppy eyes she could in order to convince him.
Xiao didn't even think about it as his reply came near instantly, "No." immediately shooting her idea down.
Y/n groaned as her hopeful smile dropped, "Ack- You didn't even pretend to think about it!" She complained.
Xiao shook his head, "Don't need to, You've already mentioned that you wish to be stronger, and training in the rain will only help get you accustomed to fighting adverse weather." He pointed out flatly.
Y/n cringed as he used basic logic to explain himself. How am I supposed to fight against that? She wondered hopelessly. Deflating she lifelessly said, "Fine... I'll get the spear..." As she moped off towards the counter to grab the weapon.
By the time they'd gotten back to the sparring area, it had begun raining. "Man, if only we could've avoided this and You know, skipped sparring!" She complained sarcastically as they both readied their weapons. "Too bad somebody said 'no'." She continued to tease him as he launched the opening attack, seeming intent on letting her practice her defensive skills.
Y/n was quick on her feet, even as she continued to jokingly tease him, blocking the incoming spear with her own before shoving the man back and counterattacking with the butt of the spear as she easily smacked Xiao in the side, "Not to mention, it's not like the rains gonna do anything but be annoying-" She added jokingly, accidentally leaving herself open as she chatted lightheartedly.
Xiao saw the opening, taking advantage of the underdefended spot he quickly regained his footing, thrusting the spearhead into her shoulder. As usual, both of them were careful not to cause any real damage to each other, as it'd just be a pain to deal with. "Could you please focus?" He suggested irritably as Y/n winced and made some distance smacking the spearhead away.
Y/n grumbled as the two continued trading blows. They were pretty evenly matched as it was more or less just a battle to see who could last longer. Unfortunately, the outcome was obvious as Xiao easily outlasted her stamina. Y/n groaned as she pointed out, "Dude, we're basically on the same level." while Xiao helped her back to her feet.
