Jenny had now brushed off last weeks case as just another case. It wasn't the best idea to get attached to the people you meet on cases.
Sam was sitting across from her, reading a news article with a concentrated frown, Jenny playing Tetris on her phone, but occasionally shoving a french fry or her burger into her mouth. Dean had wandered off into the bar, possibly gambling the little money they had.
"Jenny, look at this—" Before Sam could hand the news article to the brunette, Dean walked out with a grin, carrying a handful of cash and cackling. The two seated Hunters turned to Dean, waving the money.
"Don't waste it all on pie." Jenny smiled sarcastically as Dean's dropped, sitting down.
"I was thinking a fancy ring." He grinned as Sam frowned at the two.
"You know, we could get real jobs once in a while." Sam suggested as Jenny shrugged.
"Hunting's our day job. And the pay is shit." Dean shoved the money away as Jenny nodded in agreement.
"Plus, can't exactly get a job when we're only in a town for a few days." She mentioned, and Sam dropped his head.
"Yeah, but hustling pool? Credit card scams? It's not the most honest thing in the world."
"Look, Sam. This life we have... We gotta live with what we got." Jenny smiled half-heartedly as Sam nodded, turning the news article over. "Did you find something?"
"Maybe. Oasis Plains, Oklahoma - not far from here. A gas company employee, Dustin Burwash, supposedly died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob." Jenny and Dean furrowed their brows in confusion.
"Cruella-what?" Jenny asked as Sam frowned at her.
"Cruetzfeldt-Jakob. Human mad-cow disease." Jenny hummed as Dean nodded.
"Mad cow... Wasn't that in Oprah?" Dean asked, turning to Jenny.
"I wouldn't know. You make me sit through Scooby-Doo re-runs." Dean looked away for a moment before shrugging in agreement, turning back to his brother. "Wait..."
"You watch Oprah?" Jenny and Sam asked in unison, frowning at Dean. He flushed in embarrassment, staying quiet.
"So this guy eats a bad burger. Why is it our kind of thing?" Dean asked, changing the subject as Jenny shook her head in amusement. She went to take another bite of her burger, pausing before slowly setting it down back on the plate.
"Mad cow disease causes massive brain degeneration. It takes months, even years, for the damage to appear. But this guy, Dustin? Sounds like his brain disintegrated in about an hour. Maybe less." Sam explained as Dean hummed.
"Okay... That does sound weird."
"Yeah. Now, it could be a disease. Or it could be somethin' much nastier." Sam folded the news article as Jenny shoved more fries into her mouth before standing up.
