-Third Person's POV-

People's judgements and insults had never really bothered you.

Until today. 

They stepped out of the line.

"Will you quit it?!" you growled at the mean girls, "We're not dating! Just shut up already!"

You whirled Nico around, grabbed his hand, and marched him to the cafeteria.

You took a good look at his face, but you still couldn't figure out that same expression he has every time people said the two of you would make a good couple.

"Ignore them, Neeks," you said firmly, "Those witches don't get a thing about love."

Nico looked down, "Yea, I know."

He then smiled and touched your cheek, "It's okay, you know. I'm not exactly bothered by it."

You sighed at his touch, "I know, but it seems so unfair that you have to put up with that every time you talk to me."

A little backstory: you and Nico had been best friends for the longest of time (i know- cliché) and people always assume that the two of you were dating- which is getting quite annoying.

They'd make comments and question your friendship with Nico, which just makes you feel so bad for pulling him into this mess.

Besides- you can't love him. You just can't. Not after years and years of your friendship, you're afraid one wrong move will just wreck it all.

You pulled Nico in for a hug, "Just... please don't leave me. We can hang out in secret- if you're uncomfortable with it-"

"Really Y/N, you're over-reacting," Nico laughed as he squeezed you back, "Forget those bozzos, if you want- this is between us, and only us."

"A dance?" Nico read the poster hung on the wall, "What's the occasion? McKenzie's new boyfriend?"

You snorted, "It's Valentines, you idiot. The day where Aphrodite embarrasses people like me."

Nico raised his eyebrows, "Why you?"

"Well, for starters, I'm not into that kind of stuff," you looked down, "and nobody likes me in... that way."

Nico looked away, quite sad and disappointed at her reaction.

"We can go together," he said quietly, "As friends- of course, if you want to." he added quickly.

Y/N laughed, "Are you sure you're okay with this?"

"Only if you are," Nico said in a sing-song voice.

And so you were.

Sure, everybody snickered at the two of you once the news spread that the two of you were going together.

Though, honestly, you were too nervous to be worried about that.

You've never been to a dance before, and you rarely wore a dress.
