A/N - js-a-girl commented "Make one with so much heartbreak like just wrench my heart out like something that would make me SOB like so freaking sad and NO happiness like cheating or being abandoned like I NEED angst".
Yippee finally an angst request !!
Though if the heartbreak isn't enough for you in this one shot, don't worry. As your favorite angst writer, I'll make sure that there are still many more to come >:D
P.S. - this is an AU where Nico grew slightly insane before he jumped into Tartarus.
And it was all your fault.
Jk jk.
Anyways, enjoy!
- Third Person's POV -
When somebody loved you, everything was beautiful.
Gods, you wished you had taken it more seriously.
You first met Nico di Angelo at the nine nearing ten in Camp Half Blood.
With most of your cabin siblings being older than you, it was difficult to find kids your age that you could play with.
So when Nico needed a friend, you were there.
He was seen as an outcast. Everything about him screams "stay away".
But like all childhood bestfriends, you've grown to love him just the way he is.
"Will we be friends forever?" Nico had asked you one night, tucked and cuddled up closely to you in the soft grass beside the lake, "Best friends?"
"Of course," you had whispered back, your eyes and voice filled with promise, "Always."
That was in the past. Now, you felt more and more distant from Nico.
A few years later, the two of you grew into teenagers. As sweet and gentle as young love was, it wasn't always cupcakes and glitter in your relationship.
Naturally, the two of you had agreed to go out and start dating. Personally, you didn't regret it one bit. You loved your relationship with the Ghost King, and he's been nothing short but perfect to you. However, you soon found out that nothing good truly lasts forever.
You knew that he had been hanging with ghosts and dead people, but you weren't particularly keen on his social group.
Nico had told you the ghosts do like to whisper and taunt him, telling him all sorts of negativities to pour out their bitterness and grudge in the Underworld.
Though he told you not to worry, that he was already immune to such things. Even so, you couldn't help but worry.
"Are you sure you're alright, love?" you gently kissed his cheek one night, holding him close as you cuddled in the Hades cabin.
"I'm fine, Y/N," Nico said shortly. Seeing your slightly fallen expression, he swiftly pressed a longing kiss onto your forehead, "I'm just fine."
Deep down, you felt like things were ending with Nico and you. It wasn't bittersweet, but heartbreaking. If only you knew how to save him.
...
"Let me alone, jeez!" Nico rolled his eyes, trying to get you off his back. Literally.
You thought that maybe, just maybe, Nico would remember how it felt to love and be loved when you invited yourself over for a sleepover.
"I'm sorry," you gasped, immediately backing away from the ticked off Nico. "I was just trying to help-"
"Yeah? Well, your lousy excuse for a cuddle session is pathetic," Nico scoffed lamely.
You faltered, looking at the boy that you loved with all your heart. Did he not know how strongly you wanted to be with him? To be there for him?
"I love you," you whispered weakly, trying to make Nico smile again. All you wanted was for him to be happy.
For the first time ever, Nico didn't immediately reply back. He would usually chuckle a gentle 'I love you', followed along by a tender kiss on the cheek. This time, however, he just glared at you bitterly.
"Get out," Nico muttered, his fists clenching as he put his arms to the side, "I need to be alone."
That was a lie, you knew. The Nico you loved had always been terrified of being left alone.
But you couldn't do anything about it now. Maybe he has changed. Maybe he didn't want you anymore.
"Call me when you're ready," you smiled softly, slowly heading out of the door, "I'll come back to you straight away."
You paused, allowing Nico some time to say something back. If he wanted to.
When his lips showed no signs of uttering any words, you walked out of his cabin.
You hesitantly took out a bracelet you made for the two of you. It had pretty beads tied together with string. Sure, it was a bit crappy, but you spend a good amount of your time on it.
You had carved your initials together with Nico's only the wooden beads, painting them in each your favorite colors.
Looking back at the dark cabin door, you had to force down your tears. You wanted to cry. You missed what the two of you had once had.
You gently placed the bracelet on the porch, sighing softly as you prayed to the gods for another chance.
Just one more chance.
A/N - This lovely comment has given me the permission to break your hearts once again.
In the midst of all requests to be happy, sweet, and fluffy, I've finally come across someone who wants raw heartbreak.
This deserves a two-parter, don't you think?
