~ flashback ~

With a blank of an eye, Hestia was gone. And you knew what you had to do.

Tears fell swiftly down your cheeks as you shot the monsters down, knowing that Kronos would catch on to what you were doing in a matter of seconds.

They were your family. For years, you had lived among the monsters and the lies. No matter how evil or how bad they were, you couldn't help but feel your heart break at every screech.

Gods, you hate emotional attachments. Why does such a thing exist, anyway?

You could hear Kronos's booming voice, raging as Luke spotted you.

He pointed at the building you were perched upon and told Nico one word.

"Kill."

- Third Person's POV -

Without another second of hesitation to spare, Nico ran forwards and bounded up the stairs, a mad look gleamed in his eyes.

"Y/N," he growled, smirking slightly as you trembled from the sound of his voice, "Out of arrows, I see."

"Shut up and look around, Nico!" you pleaded, gesturing to the roads below you, "Look at how many innocent lives are being taken. Look at what we've done."

"Are you forgetting what happened to us, Y/N? Nico asked grimly, adjusting his grip on his sword, "To us?"

"I know," you quickly wiped your tears with the back of your hand, retreating closer and closer to the edge as Nico took a few steps forwards, "But that doesn't mean it has to happen to everyone else too."

Nico froze, noticing how scared you looked. Were you... afraid of him?

He faltered, dropping his sword to the ground as he rushed forwards to hold you. He wanted t assure you that he would never, ever hurt you. Never, not in a million years.

"What are you doing, boy?" Kronos's booming voice rang in his ears once again, "Kill the traitor."

But Nico didn't care. Not anymore. He wanted to be with his love.

Right before he could get to you, an arrow was shot straight into your exposed neck from behind.

Sparing a moment for a glance, Nico saw a camper cheering as he had hit his target, thinking that you were the enemy with your different set of armour.

"NO!" Nico cried, his heart shattering as you fell back and off the building.

With shaking hands, he knelt beside the edge and saw you, bleeding profusely.

Your head was surrounded by a large pool of blood on the ground. Your limbs were cracked and broken and bent all over the place.

Your eyes were closed and your face ripped and cut in several areas.

A hero has fallen.

Nico heard the battle cry as the soldiers of Camp Half-Blood wiped the rest of the monsters away.

Nico heard the scream as Ethan Nakamura fell from Olympus and thudded onto the rocky grounds filled with rubble and ash.

With a choked sob of his own, Nico raced back down the stairs and picked you up in his arms.

He gathered you into his embrace and called for help as he rocked you back and forth.

"Please," he begged, pleading with anyone that could hear him, "Save her. Save my best friend, please!"

It was a curse.

It was bad enough to be a villain, hating everything and everyone around him for the sake of his own life.

But gods, it hurt Nico to the core to see you like this. What is life without you in it?

"I'm sorry," Nico whispered into your ear, feeling defeated by the deafening silence. "I'll be good now, I'm sorry. Please come back to me. Please, forgive me. Yeah?"

No response. Nico held onto the fact that you were still alive, that your soul wasn't gone yet.

Right before it could slip away, Apollo appeared before him.

He was glowing, radiant and bright as he looked down at you and Nico with an unfamiliar look in your eyes.

"You're lucky I'm such a sap," Apollo grinned, waving his hands over your weak body, "If not, I might as well leave the two of you to die here."

You opened your eyes and sat up with a rough gasp, breathing rapidly as your body tried to make up for the oxygen you were lacking.

With a joyous laugh, Nico wrapped his arms around you once again and kissed the spot behind your ear.

When he was about to turn his head to thank Apollo, he was gone.

The gods may be annoying, but they're not as bad as I thought. Nico rolled his eyes, surprised by how his mind had come to that conclusion.

"Nico?" you whispered, your voice still shaking from shock, "Let's go home."

Nico thought of the cave you used to sleep in together when you were still runaways.

He remembered the abandoned boxcar you once stayed the night in.

The boy pictured the grassy hills, where the two of you would lay on to gaze at the stars.

Life had been simple, but it was worth living.

"Yeah," Nico smiled breathlessly, though still excited on what the world has to offer for the two of you.

"Let's go home.

A/N - so sorry that the time gap between the request and the actual one shot being posted is so long.

I had other drafts lining up in stocks for the month, and I needed to get them out there for the 100th special!

Also, I got ranked top 7th in one shot collections from Wattpad for a day or two, how cool is that?? :D
