A/N - Credits to @artemiscabin8 for the idea!!
Thanks to Polycosmos, the greek god of the multiverse, I present to you this one shot!
This takes place in the alternate universe where Nico and Y/N switches personalities (not very original, but I don't want to be too far-fetched)
Enjoy <33
- Third Person's POV -
Once you had turned 16, you rejected the next offer for your stay in Camp Jupiter and decided to go explore in the outside world.
The first thing you did was enrolling yourself into a nearby high school. Not the most out-of -the-box thing that you could think of, seeing that Camp Jupiter already provided you with everything that a demigod could possibly need in life.
Even then, you didn't seem to think about that too much. You wanted to make friends who weren't potentially dangerous or blessed with the gift of the gods.
You finally got Reyna's permission to let you go, on the condition of having Steve, your satyr pen-pal from Camp Half-Blood, accompany you.
Aside from that, there was another problem. You had tattoos. A whole sleeve of them. Camp Jupiter never exactly had restrictions for those type of stuff.
Though it wasn't exactly distracting for your classmates, your teachers do prefer if you would cover them with a hoodie or makeup.
You sat down in class and began dabbing the concealer away on your forearm. It was awfully hot and you needed to roll up your sleeves.
It wasn't very "feminine" of you, having your arms dabbed up in ink. Sure, you've pulled a couple of desperate, player guys in school. But nobody would ever choose a punk over a princess. Right?
Over time, you soon learned to accept the fact that no guy would ever, truly love you for who you are. You prefer to be alone, anyway. No need to be spending your time chasing pointless things.
Your trail of thought was momentarily interrupted when a cute, dorky guy entered the classroom, brightening up the whole place. You froze.
He was a demigod, you knew it. He had a strong vibe to him. Maybe the son of one of the Big Three?
"Good morning class, I would like to introduce you to a new classmate who would be joining us for the year," your teacher announced, "My dear, you would please introduce yourself to your friends?"
"He looks cool," your best friend, Steve, whispered into your ear, "Aren't you into that band?"
You glanced down at the boy's t-shirt, who you now learned his name was Nico di Angelo, and saw the logo of your all-time favorite band.
"Yeah... I guess he's cool," you chuckled quietly, "Reckon he's from camp?"
"Half-Blood, I presume," Steve sniffed, "My satyr senses are tingling."
"Ew. Why would you ever word it like that?"
"Ms. L/N," your teacher called out fairly, "Why don't you take Mr. Di-Angelo on a short tour around the school?"
Steve snickered as you grumpily stood up from your desk, leading Nico out of the room and into the hallway.
For a moment, there was a cold silence. You looked at Nico's face blankly, making him slightly nervous.
"I like your tattoos," Nico sputtered out, glancing down shyly at your poorly-covered forearm smeared with concealer, "It looks sick."
You managed to crack a warm smile on your face, "Really? You're not lying, are you?"
Nico let out a relieved sigh, "No way! Do you think I'll look that baddass with a sleeve like yours?"
That was a few months ago. Within that time range, you and Nico had grown to be become the closest of friends.
He was like a bright star to your dark and dreary world. It was amusing how he would skip over to you like a delighted puppy every time he saw you. Or how his eyes would light up the night like fireflies.
You shared your first kiss with him under the gentle moonlight as the two of you sat on top of a tree.
While your first instinct was to push him away and never fall in love, your heart says otherwise.
Slowly, hesitantly, you returned the kiss.
The taxi ride back to your dorms was quiet, while Nico sat beside you in comfortable silence.
But as for you? You were about to pass out. After all, you've never loved a guy as much as Nico. What were you supposed to do?
All of those worries evaporated when Nico took out some face paint and markers, shyly lifting them up for you to see.
"May I color your tattoos?" he asked, blushing slightly, "It's okay if you don't want to."
Your heart melted.
Maybe, just maybe, it was alright to fall in love. Just this once. This one time.
From the rear-view mirror, the driver glanced at the couple, his white eyes shining mischievously.
Polycosmos smiled knowingly.
A/N - sorry if this wasn't the classic grumpy x sunshine, personality swap trope that most would have written about.
I wanted to try out smth different, though maybe I didn't portray their quirks well enough :')
Anyway! Thanks for reading <3
