A/N - I just had my birthday a few days ago, so let's post a oneshot to celebrate :D
Compliments to @Tanya_di_Angelo's idea: "maybe like a birthday surprise for him or Y/N."
Enjoy <3
- Third Person's POV -
Nico had been up all night, planning your surprise birthday party.
The poor thing had fallen asleep half-way through blowing the balloons, using the dusty, old rug in his room as a blanket.
At about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, he was woken up with a jolt by his sister, Hazel Levesque.
She was trying to place a soft pillow under his head, worried that he might wake up with a concussion when suddenly, she froze.
"Oh no... I'm sorry, Nico. I-I didn't mean to wake you up," she whispered, even though there was no use for talking so softly anymore.
Nico groaned as he stretched himself awake, his mouth dry as he looked at all the blown-up balloons scattered on his bedroom floor, "What time is it?"
"It's time for your sword-training," Hazel pointed to Nico's schedule taped to the wall, "You've woken up just in time."
"There's no time for that," Nico fussed, trying to neaten up his hair all the while arranging the balloons to look nice, "I have a date with Y/N in just a few hours, so I need to-"
In a flurry of his rampage, Nico accidentally stepped on one of the balloons, falling back onto his bed with a yell of shock.
"Gods! What does it take for a guy to do anything around here?"
Hazel chuckled and began sweeping out the balloons to the side, trying to make them look presentable, "It would help if you tidy these up, big brother."
Nico sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, looking at the mess he made in the Hades cabin.
"I-I'm sorry. It must be uncomfortable to stay in this nasty old junk during your visit to Camp Half-Blood," he muttered, getting back up to pick up some crumpled papers - rejects on what he wanted to write for your birthday card.
"It's okay, I don't mind," Hazel smiled and patted Nico's back, "I'm sure Y/N'll find it sweet that you're willing to do so much for her."
Nico blushed, "I'm barely doing anything. I'm just glad that Y/n haven't realized that she deserves better than me."
When Hazel fell silent, Nico immediately began waving his hands in front of her face, his face panicked.
"I-It was a joke!"
—
That night, you were met by a lovely surprise. Nico was waiting for you at the porch of his cabin, taking a few tentative steps forward so he could engulf you into a hug.
"Surprise," he whispered, his cheeks all tainted pink, "Are you ready for our special date?"
"You know it," you smiled excitedly.
It was magical. Nico practically treated you like a Queen (not that you aren't already one). As the highlight of the whole date, your prince charming led you to a quiet hill where a picnic blanket and cake was waiting.
Lights were hung over the trees, the scene overlooking the pretty lights of the city.
Nico excitedly picked up the cake, bringing it closer to you, "Happy Birthday..."
You froze, looking at Nico in surprise, "What?"
"Make a wish, darling," Nico looked up at you shyly.
Oh, you simply can't stand that sweet, gentle look in his eyes. And to think that he stayed up late to prepare you all this...
"Thanks, Nico," you whispered as you blew out your candles, wishing to the gods that you'll get to keep this one thing in your life: Nico.
Little did he know, your adorable boyfriend got the damn date wrong. Your birthday was tomorrow, not today.
You silenced everyone's squeals and greetings as the capers wished you a happy birthday, trying your best to keep it a secret from Nico.
However, you didn't expect for Nico to have checked his calender. The bright, blue sticky note with the words "Y/N's SPECIAL DAY" stuck onto the particular day.
As a desperate, last resort, Nico set up a movie night in his cabin and made sure to give you plenty of cuddles and kisses. Even so, it didn't stop Nico from feeling absolutely devastated.
"I'm so, so sorry," Nico whispered, looking down at you sadly, "You must be really disappointed, huh?"
"Nah," you smiled softly, planting a firm kiss on Nico's cheek, "I might have had fallen in love with you even more."
Nico blushed, nuzzling his nose against the crook of your neck shyly, "I love you..."
It was, in the end, a good birthday.
