A/N - here's another random oneshot idea that I wrote in a spur of the moment.

It's in the middle of the night for me, by the way.

This is a little snippet of how Nico would be not as your direct lover, but as a man who yearns for his love.

Ooh, romantic. Am I right?

Enjoy!

- Third Person's POV -

You were his favorite thing, his person.

But it hasn't always been that way.

Nico has been tasked to take care of you the moment you stepped into the grounds of Camp Half-Blood.

You were known to be a brat, sent to the camp to see if they could try and fix your behavior.

It wasn't like a good sword training couldn't straighten you out.

"Is that her?" Nico muttered under his breath, more quietly to himself than anyone else, glancing up at Chiron.

Something told Nico that things are going to be a little bit different with you around.

You had something no one else had, something that was able to thaw through his cold heart and fix up its broken pieces.

A few months later, the two of you had a blossoming relationship, though labels were still as confusing as ever.

You were a traditional gal, waiting for Nico to man up and confess to you first.

When his hands weren't belting around your waist in a tight cuddle or hug, Nico spends most of his time in the training arena.

Mostly trying to get rid of you out of his head.

He was extremely confused about what relationship the two of you had. You clearly have feelings for him, and Nico knows he does too.

But to actually risk what you have by confessing? He wasn't going to take that chance.

At nights, Nico would lay alone in bed, praying to the gods that he could be yours.

It worsened when he had to leave for Tartarus, taking a single picture of you with him, where he kept it securely in his breast pocket right next to his heart.

Nico had left during the night, paying a visit to your cabin.

He had slipped a love note under your pillow, just in case he didn't make it out alive.

And if he did... Well, that's a problem that he would have to address for later.

As the days went by, Nico grew more and more mad.

He was out of his mind, barely able to tell the time. Gods, he should have brought a watch.

Nico could barely breathe properly anymore, occasionally blacking out to find a monster nibbling at his skin the moment he gained consciousness.

That day was no different.

He cried out in pain as he felt a new monster drawing blood from his legs, swatting it away with the blade of his sword.

Tears pricked the corner of his eyes. Why did he think he could do this? Nico was no match for the monsters down here.

In his despair, Nico raised his trembling hand to pull out your picture.

Nico gently placed his lips on the picture, kissing your forehead on the surface, his heart fluttering with tenderness. In the solitude of the ground, he whispered into the dark.

"One day," he murmured, his voice filled with a mix of determination and longing. "One day, I'll be with you for real. We'll be together, just you and me. And everything will be okay."

He knew it was a secret dream, one he had to keep hidden from the world, but in these private moments, he allowed himself to hope.

"Nico," you sobbed. "Oh, Nico."

You threw another smack at his arm, your eyes filling up with angry tears as he laughed amusedly.

You and the team had just pulled Nico out of the depths of Tartarus, his body cold and frail after being hidden in that stupid jar for so long.

Sure, Percy and Annabeth were gone.

But, in all honesty, you would rather focus on what is right in front of you at the moment.

You allowed Nico to scooch over as he melted into your embrace. He was giggling. He was all smiley and happy.

"You're a madman," you shook your head and pressed a frustrated kiss against the side of Nico's head.

"I love you so much," Nico grinned, cooing at you as you held me tenderly. "You're so pretty."

You blushed, looking down at Nico in surprise at how direct he was.

"Was that obvious enough?" Nico whispered, his eyes glazing over with pure longingness, "Do you know that I want you now?"

So that was what he was doing. This was a love confession.

You didn't even bother answering him, simply sealing your reciprocated love with a kiss.

You were his favorite thing, his person.

And now, it'll always be that way.
