"Jealous?" you smirked.

Nico sputtered, unable to form any coherent words, "W-What do you mean?"

"You were glaring daggers at Daniel all day," you chidded, "Jealous?"

"No way," Nico immediately said, a bit too harshly than what he intended, "It's not like we're in love or anything."

The sight of your face falling made Nico's heart ache painfully. Did he say something wrong?

"Right," you forced a smile, turning on your heel to get through the door. "Goodnight, Nico."

Nico could swear he heard a choked sob behind your voice, making his chest feel so heavy.

"Yeah," Nico whispered, tears pricking the edge of his eyes, "Goodnight, Y/N."

- Third person's POV -

The next day, Nico went over to your cabin, knocking at the door and hoping that you would answer instead of one of your siblings.

Sadly, a girl younger than him opened the door, her hair messy and looking like she clearly just woke up. "Y/N?"

"Yes."

"Y/N!" the little girl called over her shoulder. "Oh. Wait. I think she's out with a friend."

"What? Who?" Nico frowned, feeling hesitant to urge the sleepy kid any further.

"I don't know, old man," the girl shrugged, scowling back at Nico, "Don't look at me like that. You look dumb."

"Thanks anyway," Nico gritted his teeth, immediately sprinting off to the Aphrodite cabin.

Sure enough, Nico spotted you sitting in the patch of grass, talking and chatting and joking with Daniel, who was braiding flowers into your hair.

"You'll look so pretty," Daniel grinned, tucking a tiny daisy into your soft locks, "Like a princess."

"You're just flattering me," you chuckled, catching Nico's eye from a distance. "Oh."

"What?" Daniel asked, before looking over at Nico brightly. "Oh! Hey there!"

Daniel waved a friendly hand, asking Nico to sit right beside the two of you.

"What are you guys doing?" Nico cracked a smile, trying to get you to look at him again.

"Braiding flowers into Y/N's hair," Daniel replied, still oblivious as ever. "Y/N, do you mind if I teach Nico how to-"

"Do whatever you want," you said curtly, "I'm alright."

Daniel shrugged and handed the braid over to Nico, who took your hair tenderly in his hands. "What do I do?" he asked nervously.

"Just twist the three strands of hair together," Daniel leaned over to pick up more small flowers for you, "Take the ones of the left and right and lace them through the middle."

As Daniel went a bit farther away in his garden, Nico leaned over to whisper in your ear. "I'm so sorry, Y/N. I do love you, really."

"But we're not in love," you smiled weakly, your eyes sullen and sad. "It's okay, I'm not mad at all. I like what we have. Our friendship, that is. I love it, even."

Nico wanted to tell you how very wrong you were, how he loved you with his entire, whole heart and soul.

But before he could say anything, you pressed your lips tenderly against his nose. "I love you, Nico."

Daniel sat back down, looking at Nico's upset expression and the defeated look in your eyes. "Um, are you guys okay?"

"We're alright," you chuckled weakly, not trusting Nico to say anything else. "I think we're almost done."

Daniel hesitated, looking over between you and Nico carefully.

"Are you guys really not together?" he whispered softly.

Nico swallowed, despising how his voice seemed to talk for him very, very wrongly, "No, we're not."

"Just best friends," you clarified, making Nico feel even worse.

Daniel must have read the room wrongly, because he quickly said, "Oh no, I didn't mean to doubt what the two of you guys had. I-I didn't want to know if..."

He gulped, fiddling with his fingers shyly, "If Y/N is open for dating."

You chuckled, amused at Daniels shenanigans, "Yeah. I'm open."

"Great!" Daniel grinned, almost splitting his face in half. That's amazing, even. Um, may I pick you up for dinner tonight?"

"At six," you smirked, "And I must be home by ten-thirty."

"Deal," Dan replied breathlessly as you and Nico stood up to leave, "See you then, princess."

Nico's heart shattered completely. He stood up, smiling weakly as he mumbled, "I just forgot that I needed to do... stuff."

With that, he bolted to the Hades cabin. Nico slammed the door closed and fell down sobbing to the ground. What had he done?

It was a disaster. The girl he loved, and he was sure loved him back, was off on a date with a guy she just met yesterday. What has gotten over you?

It was too late now.

A/N - it feels so surreal that we're getting closer to the end of the freaking oneshot book.

UPDATE! For the sake of my sanity, I would be writing a lot longer worded oneshots that would have multiple parts. I feel like this would help train my writing skills and convey my story idea even better.

But don't worry, I'll still include a sprinkle of short oneshots here and there.

Finally, thanks for all the love and support, ya'll <33
