A/N - time for another AU! It's been a while since we did one of those.
In this oneshot, you are a naiad, those pretty, water nymphs that are said to inhabit a river, spring, or waterfall.
In this case, you're just hanging out and chilling in the lakes of Camp Half-Blood.
Enjoy!
- Third Person's POV -
Nico wasn't having a very good day.
You'd thought that after saving the world twice, you'd be surrounded by even more fans and friends.
But nope, Nico di Angelo was still isolated as ever. Being known as the weird, emo kid all his life wasn't helping with his case.
He walked over to the side of the lakes in the middle of the night, watching as the stars glinted off their soft and gentle light onto the calm waters.
Nico slumped down against a tree, breathing in the crisp air.
"So much for finding a home," Nico mumbled, clenching his fists deep in his pockets. He never liked crying. However, it didn't stop him from choking up every once in a while.
Just as the first few tears fell down his porclein cheeks, a naiad popped her head up curiously to the surface of the water.
"Still up this late?" you quipped.
Nico jumped slightly in shock, surprised to have company this time of night.
"Can't sleep," he grumbled, sitting back down as he hastily tried to wipe his face with the edge of his sleeve.
"You're crying," you noted.
Nico was not quite sure of how to respond to that. Usually, all the naiads he'd talked to were all terrible flirts. You, on the other hand, didn't seem the type to do so.
"I was not," he whispered hoarsely, suddenly noticing how pretty your eyes were. Odd, they seem to reflect the stars better than the dark waters did, looking like a thousand tiny galaxies.
You emerged from the water, dropping your bag of trinkets in front of him.
"I'm going to cheer you up," you announced, much to Nico's amusement, "What do you want?"
You held up a couple of items from the bag, ranging from a broken mirror, bracelets, and an old pocket watch.
"Many people drop their belongings in the lake," you told him, rummaging through your findings, "I like to give them as gifts or return them to their owners."
Nico chuckled, picking up a silver ring and chain, "You don't seem very used to talking with other people."
Your face flushed slightly, "I'm sorry, none of my sisters are keen to have a proper conversation with me. You know how my kind is, all flirts and pretty pictures."
Nico could tell that you were not even exaggerating, knowing exactly how the naiads in Camp Half-Blood are.
"You can talk to me," Nico smiled, sliding a matching ring onto your finger, "I would love to have a friend like you."
Your face immediately brightened, beaming as you and Nico locked eyes.
"I would love that," you grinned happily, showing off your pearly-whites.
Not long after, Nico broke eye contact with you, turning around slightly to conceal his pink-dusted cheeks.
He cleared his throat, trying to steer the conversation away to something that might get you to talk to him even more. Nico liked your voice, a lot. "What else have you got in there?"
For the rest of the night, the two newly-found best friends spent their time sorting through the trinkets, having a beautiful friendship blossoming down at the lake.
A/N - is anybody out there also having an awful week?
I'm feeling so stressed by all the school work, that I have barely enough time to do what I love.
But then again, there would never be enough in the amount of times I would thank you guys for all your kind words and super sweet support <3
