"I'm so sorry," Nico whispered, pressing his forehead against your shroud, trying to imagine the soft silk as your skin instead. "I'm sorry."

The news that you were dead nearly killed something inside him. He nearly went insane with grief.

He'd lost his only love, the person who'd loved him so dearly with no reason not to. You were supposed to grow old with him. You were supposed to have kids, have a family with him. He was supposed to be by your side the same way you'd been for all those years, always cheering for him, always there for him.

"Please," he mumbled as he knelt by the fire, clutching the flowers in his hand. "Forgive me."

No matter how much his friends tried to console him and reassure him that it wasn't his fault, Nico neither felt safe nor comforted.

He wanted his love back, to come back home to his arms where she belonged.

- Third Person's POV -

You were stranded for a few weeks. Has it been a month, maybe?

The Minotaur had been long gone, but you unconsciously wandered over to a monster-hoarded forest.

Gods, you didn't know how many there were, or why they were allowed to group up like this.

Drakons, empousai, and even the freaking Chimera were there. It was like one big, toxic family gathering.

They would often pick up your scent, but you would flee just before they could get to you.

Your arm wasn't looking too good, either. But a good offering to Apollo did just the trick for you to survive.

Finally, you had gotten to a position that was close enough to camp.

It wasn't as if you were scared of returning. You always thought of Camp Half-Blood as your first home.

It was seeing Nico again that scared you. You wondered what he thought of you know. Did he even think of you? You weren't sure.

All you knew was that you were going to see him again. And that was all you needed.

"Y/N?" Grover looked at you in pure shock and disbelief, grabbing your face and inspecting you closely, "You don't smell like a monster. I don't think you're a monster."

"Gee, thanks a lot," you rolled your eyes, but smiled at the sight of your old friend, "Hello, Grover."

The satyr burst out into a joyous fit of laughter, running around to tell everyone that you were back. That you were alive. That you were home.

"Y/N's back! Guys, Y/N's alive!" he screamed through the fields, alerting the curious campers.

His cries were heard all the way from the Hades cabin, where a disheveled Nico stood on the porch.

Once you locked eyes with your first love, Nico's jaw dropped.

Tears brimmed his eyes as he staggered towards you. He looked awful.

It seemed like Nico hadn't been sleeping nor eating very well. You could see his forearms poking through his skin and how tiny his wrists were.

His eyes were surrounded with a dark, purple pocket underneath. His hair was tangled and his eyes swollen more than you ever thought possible.

Yup, that was yours.

Nico scooped you into his arms, ignoring everyone's warnings that you might be an imposter.

He knew it was you just from the look in your eyes.

That was his.

"You're home," he sobbed against your shoulder, one hand wrapped around your waist and the other cradling the back of your head, "You're alive."

"I am," you sighed in relief, leaning into his touch as the two of you sank onto the ground, "It's nice to see you, Neeks."

Nico was sobbing hysterically into your shoulder. He had thought - for exactly three weeks, 4 days, and twelve hours - that he would never see you again.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered breathlessly, "I missed you. I love you."

Before you could respond, a panicked yell was heard from the camp borders.

"Carter," you gasped, recognizing the voice of your friend immediately.

You abandoned the flustered Nico and ran to where the scream was from, your heart thumping wildly as you saw him being chased by a group of monsters.

You had led them here.

And oh, poor Carter. He was your only friend during the darkest times outside of Camp Half-Blood when you escaped, and you returned the favor by putting him in a heck of a deathly, life-threatening situation.

"Stay here, love," you gently handed Nico your bracelet, kissing his cheeks softly, "I love you, too. I'm sorry."

Nico tried to hold you back, but he was too weak and too malnourished to do anything.

"No!" he pleaded, gesturing to the group of Ares kids charging forwards to save Carter, "You've gone through enough. Stay with me."

It was the first time you had seen him so panicked, so urgent in his words. Nico quickly dried his tears with the back of his hand, still trying to tug you back into his arms.

"I've lost you once. I don't want to lose you again," he whispered.

You felt his hands tremble against your skin and saw how his body shook with fear. In that very moment, you realized just how much Nico was scared for you.

You fell silent, gazing up into the eyes of the boy you loved.

"I'm sorry," you said again, as if those were the only words you knew, "I love you."

As you spoke, Nico's eyes widened with terror.

He wanted to grab you, pull you back inside the camp borders, and kiss you till you were breathless. He wanted you to run through the garden fields with him until you were too tired to keep going. He wanted you to read to him again.

He wanted to love you until you were sick of him. All over again.

Nico watched helplessly as you pulled away from his arms, picking up a spare knife from the ground and running forwards to join the fight.

He tried to run after you, to get the sword of his own and help save you. But Thalia and Grover held him back, knowing how it was going to go if he reached you.

In his desperation, he began to yell.

"Please! Just- Just let me go with you! Please, please, please!" He begged, his hands shaking as he tried to get out of his friends' grasp.

"Trust me, kid," Thalia muttered, tugging him back before Nico could do anything else, "I've been there."

A/N - I feel so bad for you guys. But I'm not hurting you too much, aren't I?

I'm going to be posting the finale next week in Part 5. It's time for the big finish yipee :D
