"Of course it's... it's because..." Jackson's relaxed brows furrowed together once again, then he started to look uneasy.

Through Lisa's patient guidance and Kristen's purposeful questions, Jackson's awareness as an aristocratic son was finally awakened.

Once he figured it out, he started to worry for his father.

Victor must have set such a short and absolute time limit because he did not want any complications to pop up.

Who he was on guard against did not need to be said.

But what actually caused Jackson unease was the Stark's 'change of sides'.

Jackson looked at Lisa as he tried to find some information from her: was Lisa actually here on Master Stark's orders? Or was this entirely unintentional?

What a shame; Lisa was already leisurely drinking tea, and nothing could be told from her expression at all.

Kristen looked at Lisa, then she set her gaze on Jackson's face and said softly, "If the young master has things to do, please feel free to leave. My doors will always open for the young master, there is ample time ahead."

Kristen's words put Jackson's heart at ease.

He stood up right away, "Lis, excuse me."

Lisa secretly weighed her choices.

She decided not to leave with Jackson; this was a good chance to really meet Kristen.

Judging from Jackson's present relationship with Kristen, there won't be a lot of chances for her to be alone with her in the future.

And besides, Jackson was leaving to make a report; it'd be even less appropriate for her to go with him.

Lisa stood up and grabbed Jackson's arm, "Where are you going?"

Jackson thought for a moment, then he answered truthfully, "There's something strange about this matter, and it concerns the our estate's well-being. Even if I am an abandoned son, since I have learned about this, I can't sit idly by. Many thanks to you for telling me this, I think... I should do a little something too."

Lisa held onto Jackson's arm tightly with a look of panic on her face.

She seemed as if she had something to say, but she was too wary of the outsider present to say it.

Jackson sighed.

He had no intention to drift apart from Lisa because of this; on the contrary, he felt responsible for it.

After all, he was the main reason why Lisa ended up like this today.

Jackson somewhat missed the Lisa who could be in high spirits despite being dressed in rags.

Seeing this person who was dressed in silk yet had eyes full of fear, Jackson didn't like the sensation in his heart.

But in consideration of how good Lisa had been to him in the past, Jackson had no other reactions.

Jackson said, "Please rest assured, Lis. I will surely do everything I can to protect you, and I won't expose you."

"Then, then when will you return?"

Jackson took a look out the window, then he replied, "If it goes quickly, two to four hours should be enough. It's still early, perhaps you should just wait here."

"That... won't be good, right?"

Jackson took a look at Kristen, then he replied, "Since you're here, you are Kristen's guest. I'm leaving in the middle of a gathering, is there any sense in taking you with me too? And besides, she has no kin; it'll be livelier with someone around. I'm riding a horse, so I'll be back very soon."
