Hogwarts, Scotland, 1977
Nightfall, teeth-chattering coldSirius has been humming to himself for a minute straight while we switched towers, walking towards McGonagall's office for our detention.
I sigh and walk ahead of him, wanting out of this detention as quickly as I could.
Minerva McGonagall was sitting behind her desk with a cup of tea in her pale hands, a tray of biscuits in front of her and an annoyed look on her face.
"You two are late."
"It's her fault," Sirius said at once. "She was busy . . . snoring in the library, all cuddled — "
"It is my fault, professor." I cut him off quickly. "I went to the library to study and lost track of time."
McGonagall clicked her tongue and nodded. "Have a biscuit."
"I'm sor — " I frowned. "What?"
"Have a biscuit, Ms Hawke. And Mr Black."
Sirius shrugged, hopped on the elevated floor where her desk was and picked up a buttery warm biscuit. "What's the occasion, Minnie? I didn't know you took my dating joke siriusly."
"Oh, certainly not Mr Black." She nearly rolled her eyes. "I was just about to leave. A few Auror members are going to be coming to the school for a meeting. I will need to attend. For the time being," She tapped her fingers on the desk. "you both will sit here quietly."
"We just have to sit?" I asked, confused.
"That is punishment enough for you two." Minerva smiled, "I believe you are having certain individual problems. So sit, have biscuits and stay here until I return."
"But — "
"Mister Filch would be just outside the door," Minerva promised, standing up and dusting crumbs off her dress. "With Mrs Norris. Do not even think, of escaping."
"But — "
"No buts, Miss Hawke."
Sirius pressed a fist to his mouth at that and I had to do all in my power to not smile. We were behaving like thirteen-year-olds who'd just hit adolescence and found everything dirty.
When McGonagall had left, I climbed down to the office chairs and took a few biscuits to munch on.
Sirius moved here and there, opening cabinets and examining quills. I knew for a fact he was already, terribly bored. And my being here was certainly not helping. He kind of disliked me, I think. Plus who knew what Ella told him about me?
Minerva McGonagall's office was a small study located off of the first-floor corridor, to the right of a staircase ascending to the Serpentine Corridor on the third floor. It had a large fireplace, windows overlooking the Training Grounds and the Quidditch pitch and a sparse stone-floored bedroom behind a concealed door, which obviously, Sirius had opened.
