╰ ╯"I think your name is as beautiful as mine, if not more so!?"
I nearly yell at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. What was I thinking!?
Was I just an absolutely oblivious idiot or did I actually forget she'd spent six years of her life in France?
Where not surprisingly, they speak French?
I groan in embarrassment and clutch my head in my hands. She's a taken woman —
That thought makes me clench my jaw, I'd been giving Moony a silent treatment in hopes he'd admit what he'd done but no, Remus didn't utter a word.
I hadn't given up yet, I wanted him to feel at least slight remorse for what he'd done. He was in a loyal relationship with Elena and no matter how long they'd been together, he was not supposed to cheat on her with her sister.
Seeing her tormenting herself was an ache in my heart. When I walked into her dorm that day and she looked at me with those numb eyes, I'd known Remus had fucked up so badly.
Sighing my frustration out, I twisted my crest ring around my middle finger and tied the knot in my tie.
It was Lily's birthday tonight and we were celebrating it in the Room of Requirement.
I still remember Elena's face vividly when she'd seen the door to the room. She'd had the biggest grin on her face when we told her it gives you anything you want.
I also, clearly remember the expression she had when the moment wore off and reality settled in. I'd wanted to punch Remus then, so badly.
Lily declared she'd like to celebrate her birthday here, with the people she loves the most and the girls had instantly agreed.
Looking at myself in the mirror and setting my hair one last time, I walked out where James was still messing his hair up.
"Prongs, you know you've been styling those weeds for an hour now, right?"
He narrowed his eyes at me through the glass, "Do not call them weeds."
"They're just going to stick up in every direction possible right after you leave!"
"No, they won't." He argued. "I have magic in my hands. And hair."
I laugh out loud and he throws a pillow at me. It makes me laugh harder and finally giving up, James walks out of the dorm. Not before flipping me the bird, though.
He's wearing a red shirt to 'reminisce Lilypad's hair by,' in his words but it just reminds me of Elena's hair instead.
Remus is already in the common room when we descend, and he's talking to Elena. Trying to a better word.
I can see her avoiding his gaze and for the umpteenth time, I just don't understand why she wouldn't confront him.
She looks up when James pats Remus on the back as a form of greeting and her eyes light up when she sees me. It does something to my heart and I detest it.
I don't.
I smile and she smiles back and I only realise we've been staring at each other when Remus turns to me.
"Where've you two been?"
When I don't reply, James answers, "My hair looked neat." He sighs.
"How traumatising," Elena chuckles.
"I know!" James whines. "It took me hours to mess them back up."
Marlene, Dorcas and Mary come down and they're all looking gorgeous. Marlene is wearing a halter top with black skinny jeans that shows off her serpent moving tattoo, and Dorcas is wearing a black mini-dress. Mary is in an ankle-length purple dress which compliments her skin tone.
When Elena gets up to hug them, I get my first look at her dress and holy smokes.
She's in a navy satin dress with a long back and a plunging neckline. Her hair is straightened and her lips are coloured red.
When she's done greeting them, she comes to hug me.
I unconsciously smile when her hands wrap around my torso and the fact she's much smaller than me is adorable.
I see Remus glowering but I don't give a fuck at this point. I hug her back tightly and she pulls away to whisper, "You're looking nice today, beau nom."
I am mortified by the fact my cheeks are most likely red right now. Blushing now, am I?
She laughs as she pulls away entirely and shakes her head, "I literally studied in Beauxbatons."
"I know!" I whisper-yell. "I . . . I forgot."
She's still smiling when she hooks her arm in Marlene's and the lot of us get out of the common room to get to the Come and Go room.
it's still before curfew so the prefects who find us just sigh and go their way. The head boy is strolling alongside us, after all.
When we reach the Common Room, we meet Lily, Ella, Alice and Frank just outside.
James opens the room and we all usher each other in, holding big and small wrapped presents in our hands.
Lily gasps when she sees the room. It's decorated in moving holograms of us all. There is a memory of Lily and Elena where they're standing in front of the Black Lake and making silly faces behind us marauder's back. Then there is one where I'm brooding in the background of Lily and James kissing on New Year's ball, clicked by most likely Marlene.
She turns around and hugs James tightly. He grins and gives me a thumbs-up behind her back.
Elena smiles at me and nods, and I feel like I've accomplished something even though all I did was ask the Room to create this.
"ALRIGHT!" Marlene yells cheerily. "Enough melodrama! We'll play now, and then we'll exchange presents."
I laugh, "Get me some Odgen's Old firewhiskey, room."
"And some elderflower wine," Elena says loudly.
Suddenly, a table appears in front of us with three bottles of firewhiskey and two of Elderflower wine.
Lily groans, "I'm not carrying your drunkards back to the dorm, and neither is James."
"I'm not?"
"No," She turns to shoot him a stern look.
"I'm not," James repeats, looking at us and smiling guiltily.
I shake my head and hop on the couch nearby, taking the bottle and pouring it out for each one of us.
"What are we going to play, Marls?" Elena asks, sitting on the floor beside me as she opens the wine bottle and chugs straight from the neck.
Marlene grins maliciously and Dorcas makes an 'oh shit' sound. "Veritaserum or dare."
